I heard about this restaurant a few years ago and passed it the other day. Decided to try it. First bad sign was when I entered, I noticed it was a buffet. Very rare for a buffet style restaurant to serve proper food.
Service - When I entered, there was no hostess. After 10 minutes, I walked in and asked if I could sit anywhere. The woman replied, we have a hostess. I stated I had been there 10 minutes and there was not a hostess up front (the hostess was in the back of the restaurant having and extended conversation with some customer friends. I seated myself and waited another 5 minutes for a waitress.
Food - I ordered the Mixed Grill, $18.99 for myself and my guest. It came with a Rib Eye steak, shrimp, and scallops. I ordered the steak Medium, it arrived well done. Plate was not a mixed grill at all. The steak was broiled and the scallops and shrimp were in some tomato sauce (from the can) with sliced onions and peppers served over rice - like a fish stew. The scallops were mushy - not a good texture. The shrimp were good size but lacked taste. The entire meal lacked any flavor. There were no spices at all used during the cooking - of if there was, I could not taste any hint of spices. Nothing was fresh. The steak was a lower quality steak like the ones that come frozen in a box. The seafood was definately frozen at one time. Neither one of us finished our meal and we both had sour stomachs after consuming. We skipped desert and probably did the right thing.
Summary - For the price, I expected choice steak and fresh seafood. The food was more in line with what you would find at a roadside diner or cafe. For $10, this would have been an okay meal. For $20, it was a disaster. It is obvious there is no Chef in the kitchen - only hired cooks. The kitchen is the heart of the restaurant. I would say this restaurant is in need of a pacemaker.
The waitress was the only really good thing about the restaurant. I just picked up a seafood platter, bit into a scallop, and it burnt my tongue. Not from the temperature of the food, but the juice had a funny taste to it and it stung my whole mouth, like acid. I had to throw all of the scallops away. I hope …
Lillians is a greasy spoon stlye restaurant in a dodgy part of town. But their food is chaep and good and I love their breakfast buffet, which has the best buiscuts and gravy around. It is by no means an actual seafood restaurant, and could use some renovations. Good for what it is. A greasy spoon.
I ate at Lillian's with my family based on the recommendation of a friend (and a $10.00 off coupon). The seafood buffet starts around 5:00pm, so if you get there before then, there probably won't be many seafood items on the buffet, with the exception of fried fish perhaps.
The place has a Mom and Pop feel, nothing really extravagant...
I decided to try this restaurant based in another sites rating I have an affinity for local businesses. This is one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had to endure. It was a seafood buffet with no seafood!! It took twenty minutes for them to finally put some tasteless rubbery shrimp on the buffet. I also watched a...
We just moved into the neighborhood and love to give local spots a try. We went at 7pm on a Tuesday evening. Food on the buffet was almost universally unrecognizable. Pans of shredded turkey, or was it pork? Lots of fried pieces, shrimp? Okra? Catfish? No labels. Mashed potatoes were thick, but …
