Overpriced, Mediocre Food

I heard about this restaurant a few years ago and passed it the other day. Decided to try it. First bad sign was when I entered, I noticed it was a buffet. Very rare for a buffet style restaurant to serve proper food.

Service - When I entered, there was no hostess. After 10 minutes, I walked in and asked if I could sit anywhere. The woman replied, we have a hostess. I stated I had been there 10 minutes and there was not a hostess up front (the hostess was in the back of the restaurant having and extended conversation with some customer friends. I seated myself and waited another 5 minutes for a waitress.

Food - I ordered the Mixed Grill, $18.99 for myself and my guest. It came with a Rib Eye steak, shrimp, and scallops. I ordered the steak Medium, it arrived well done. Plate was not a mixed grill at all. The steak was broiled and the scallops and shrimp were in some tomato sauce (from the can) with sliced onions and peppers served over rice - like a fish stew. The scallops were mushy - not a good texture. The shrimp were good size but lacked taste. The entire meal lacked any flavor. There were no spices at all used during the cooking - of if there was, I could not taste any hint of spices. Nothing was fresh. The steak was a lower quality steak like the ones that come frozen in a box. The seafood was definately frozen at one time. Neither one of us finished our meal and we both had sour stomachs after consuming. We skipped desert and probably did the right thing.

Summary - For the price, I expected choice steak and fresh seafood. The food was more in line with what you would find at a roadside diner or cafe. For $10, this would have been an okay meal. For $20, it was a disaster. It is obvious there is no Chef in the kitchen - only hired cooks. The kitchen is the heart of the restaurant. I would say this restaurant is in need of a pacemaker.

First off service is poor. Hostess is, if you can even find one, inattentive and more concerned with her smart phone than seating customers. Waitress was...

The waitress was the only really good thing about the restaurant. I just picked up a seafood platter, bit into a scallop, and it burnt my tongue. Not from the temperature of the food, but the juice had a funny taste to it and it stung my whole mouth, like acid. I had to throw all of the scallops away. I hope …

Should be called Lillian's Diner

Lillians is a greasy spoon stlye restaurant in a dodgy part of town. But their food is chaep and good and I love their breakfast buffet, which has the best buiscuts and gravy around. It is by no means an actual seafood restaurant, and could use some renovations. Good for what it is. A greasy spoon.

Just So-So

I ate at Lillian's with my family based on the recommendation of a friend (and a $10.00 off coupon). The seafood buffet starts around 5:00pm, so if you get there before then, there probably won't be many seafood items on the buffet, with the exception of fried fish perhaps.
The place has a Mom and Pop feel, nothing really extravagant...

I decided to try this restaurant based in another sites rating I have an affinity for local businesses. This is one of the most disappointing experiences I have ever had to endure. It was a seafood buffet with no seafood!! It took twenty minutes for them to finally put some tasteless rubbery shrimp on the buffet. I also watched a...

We just moved into the neighborhood and love to give local spots a try. We went at 7pm on a Tuesday evening. Food on the buffet was almost universally unrecognizable. Pans of shredded turkey, or was it pork? Lots of fried pieces, shrimp? Okra? Catfish? No labels. Mashed potatoes were thick, but …

Just OK

The food was just ok, I ordered the fried shrimp lunch plate. The shrimp were tiny and very salty.
My 2 sides were mashed potatoes and cole slaw. The potatoes were instant out of a box but the cole slaw was very tasty.
With all the wonderful seafood restaurants in the Tidewater area I will not go back to Lillian's.

Visited the restaurant over labor day weekend using a groupon. The food was ok, average southern comfort food, but the establishment was in great need of a renovation. Half the chairs had cotton bursting out and the tables had huge gashes. We all had the buffet which wasn't the largest, but had a decent number of options. The problem was...

I've been here before and was satisfied, but I think tonight was an off night. A lot of the salad bar items were missing and not replenished while me and my party was there. The same goes for the buffet line. I heard the staff tell some of the other customers that large parties had been at the restaurant throughout...

This tastes and is served as a giant food trough for the luchtime crowds. the portions are great but the quality of the cuts and the cooking lack some of the basic concepts. I tried at least three different cuts of chicken and none of it was cooked thoroughly enough to get by any health code. I did see several...

Just left there and the only help for this place is to burn it to the ground. The food was mediocre at best and the service was pure crap. The first time in my life I've been asked in a demeaning tone "are you done eating" because they had another party coming in. The waitress and hostess along with …

Lillian's Seafood Restaurant is tucked into a suburban neighborhood in Chesapeake. My husband I shared the seafood combo platter--an amazing array of fried seafood with delicious crab-cakes and hushpuppies. This platter was so huge that we needed two large carry-out boxes for our left-overs. We were amazed that the staff allowed our four-year old daughter to eat off of the...

Lillian's is one of the best Steak & Seafood restaurants in Hampton Roads. The owner is very friendly & attentive to his customers & he has his staff following suit. My husband & I have eaten there on several different occasions & whenever we have family from out of town we always take them there. Our family always remember & want to go there whenever they're visiting.

First time eating there was Sept. 3, 2011, the food was excellent! Fresh seafood, very well seasoned for me because I am diabetic and particular about what I eat. Family friendly and still quiet. Priced right for what you get therefore I will be returning often!

I love your seafood for we are diebetics & very careful about what we eat. I would love to know your recipie for your seafood dish that has scallops, shrimp, crab, brocalli & carrotts in a cream sauce. That would be a great asset to our dinner table.

Excellent food, just like home-cooked, country food!! Older place but food is great and servers are very friendly and polite! Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves good country-style food! :)

Place is a bit of a dive and though the food is good enough, it is overpriced for the variety of choices on the buffet.

This place is a dump. The carpet is dirty, the tables were dirty, the one buffet bar was empty. No one ever replaced the She Crab soup the whole time I was there and the cake was at least two days old. The ambiance of the backroom was awful. The service was poor although they had about fifteen waiters/watresses prancing around.
