Virginia Beach’s original gastropub has long been a Shore Drive favorite for over a decade. With it’s inconspicuous location, tucked back in a courtyard, the restaurant received national acclaim when it was featured on the Food Network’s “Best of”. The first of many accolades.

This restaurant is extremely pricey. They charge upwards of $4.00 for a domestic beer(bottle). The decor is out of place for a bar and the whole place has a feeling of being too cramped, despite the fact that nobodys in there. It shouldnt be hard for the ownership to look at all the packed restaurants/bars around them and realize they need to drop there prices, if they want a full-house too.
The food may be good, but that's it. The service is horrible, couldn't find a waitress after sitting in a booth for over 5 minutes with 3 of my friends. So we went to the bar. Both male and female bartenders are rude and it took me 10 minutes to get a drink, didn't even bother trying to order the dinner that I wanted. It was hard enough trying to get someone's attention because they were too busy hanging and talking with customers they already knew. It wasn't even a busy night; it was a Tuesday night. And you could smell the smoke from cigarettes the moment you walked in the door. I won't go back there at all and would tell others not to waste their time going there. When I've been there on Fridays and Saturdays its far far worse.
My wife and I have enjoyed our meal here everytime. We went again last night and had ribs and smoked lamb shank. It was delicious and inexpensive. This restaurant has turned into one of our favorites in HR along with One Fish two Fish, Costal Grill and Lucky Star.

I will agree with the other posts about this place being in a hole in the wall but they certainly know how to cook. Ribs were tender and seasoned well, I had the caprese salad and it was fresh and crisp. Overall a great find.

We had a simply scrumptious meal here. An odd location, and easy to miss as it is tucked into a strip mall, but the food is worth it. The scallops are highly recommended and I hardly ever order them, but I ate most of my husband's!
Food is great.... Two main courses a bottle of wine with tax and tip (20%) for less than $70 not bad. The flip side is the atmosphere is more like a sports bar and the place could use a little freshing up. That said we will continue to stop there about 8-10 times a year.

Kobe beef is as generic a term in the US as is a label of natural. Anybody who would pay %10.95 for what is essentially a hamburger, is just following the herd. Went back into Smokehouse a few weeks ago for the first time in several years. It is now my favorite Shore Drive restaurant and I've decided to eat my way through their outstanding menu. It's a tough job, but someone's gotta do it.
When VCU played their last game in the NCAA basketball finals Smokehouse turned into a sports bar for the evening. A classy restaurant and bar with great food, drinks and atmosphere. Chocolate martini and French Silk pie is the perfect ending to a delicious meal. JP please bring on more live music!

Smokehouse is cheerful, delicious, a bit noisy and delightful. Mixed style of smoked and non smoked foods at great prices.
It's not just the usual BBQ, or bar food place that you get along Shore drive.
