Editorial reviews from the web (1)

This place was the first certified green restaurant in Alaska, and proud of it. It features regional, organic ingredients, baked goods made with hand-ground grain, and fresh seafood in season. You can get box lunches for your all-day fishing or sightseeing trips—even order them online for next-day pickup. There's a small gift shop and a play area outside for kids.

Another place I truly wish was open year round. Awesome spot for breakfast - they have great option options available all the time, but their specials usually are so interesting you feel compelled to try them. Local, organic and healthy foods you will love. Try to get there early...there is usually a wait!

Stopped by as we were heading from Homer back to Anchorage to get something to take on the road. Got their Fresh Blueberry and cheese danish and we wished we bought more than two! We stopped by the cafe for lunch during our visit to Homer. They have been serving organic food since 1982 which was very impressive. I ordered a "grilled halibut sandwich with alaskan organic potatoes" and my wife had a smoothie. The service was good. We got our order served quickly.

One of the coolest places to sip tea while trying to pick out the perfect pastry (savory and sweet!) Sit inside or outside - absorb the location, the locals, and the passion the owners bring to their business. Since we arrived in Homer at the tail end of the season, most restaurants on the Spit were closed already for the season. Fresh Sourdough was one of the remaining breakfast spots that we found (aside from good ol' McD's). It was packed when we were there. So good to see a menu full of organic ingredients! Homer has a plethora of wonderful bakeries and cafes. This is one of them. Had a great breakfast there the first morning of our trip. They also do coffee well. Inside and outside seating. This environmentally-friendly, all natural foods cozy small town restaurant is drop-dead wonderful! Like most American restaurants today, the portions are humungous. Four of us shared 2 breakfasts and I still could not finish my portion. The pancakes are huge and fluffy and the real deal. No one could eat 3 of these! They serve real maple syrup with the pancakes....

We've been eating here since we discovered Homer in 1998. Our boys insist on stopping here when we come in from camping or boating before heading home to Anchorage. We've had local hamburgers, great breakfasts, chowder, hot chocolate, and of course that bakery case full of pastry and bread. I seem to remember a righteous Reuben once too. This is...

Well, food was good, waitress couldn't tell us what seafood was in their breakfast special, "mixed seafood quaesadilla", but thought maybe salmon or Halibut(didn't make an effort to ask the cook), and we had to ask for a single refill of coffee after our bill was presented.
All the regular local patrons were given a sample of their bakery products, we weren't. I guess Sterling, Alaska, isn't...
