The place is beautiful and the campsites are big and secluded. The swimming pool is HUGE and there is hidden river access along the bike trails. Great place to ride your bike because there are big hills that you can really catch some speed on. All of the rangers are really laid back and friendly as well.

This was our first experience with a state park. Stayed in a small cabin that was clean and perfect for the environment. Lots of wildlife to see, and Chippokes is surrounded by numerous historically significant but lesser-known sites that really should be seen. Well worth a 3-4 day stay.
Chippokes is a nice, smaller campground. Sites are nice size, wooded and sufficiently far apart to allow privacy. The park features a pretty trail through the woods skirting the James River and a riverfront beach full of fossils.
