The Watermen's Museum pays tribute to people who make their living from the Chesapeake Bay and the surrounding rivers. A very specific term, "watermen" is only allowed to be used in reference to the Thames River and the Chesapeake Bay. Best known in the past for their aiding of the French and the Americans during the Revolutionary War, watermen are often credited as a key part of the decisive...

Had a wonderful time at the Oyster roast this weekend. Tried 3 different types of oysters from the local rivers and they were wonderful. Several of the oysters had little crabs in them and they tasted like oyster flavored crabs. The staff was very fun and the museum was awesome. Definitely check out there schedule for the next one but...

This is a small local museum. There are many interesting replicas and homage to all watermen. I really enjoyed it because growing up with a dad for a boatman made me appreciate all things on the water. Worth it if you like encouraging local history.

This museum is VERY small but more significantly it is poorly organized. Half the museum deals with the native population and models. The pictures and artifacts would be much more interesting if there was someone to explain their significance. Save the four dollars.

My wife and I while in Yorktown decided to visit the Watermen's museum. The quite a bit of information to be gotten. They also had quite a few replica's of some sailing vessels, We did go out back into their boat shop only to find a worker rebuilding an old canoe. There were also a couple of other boats dry...

This museum is very small, but if you take your time and look at everything, it has some very detailed history of Yorktown, from the Native Americans all the way up to the modern day Coast Guard. The museum itself is an old waterfront house built in the early 1900s. Be sure to look at the displays in the back...

This museum is located in a beautiful Colonial Revival home that was floated across the York River. The museum tells the story of the Chesapeake wooden boats and the fishermen who made the most of the water's bounty. There are marvelous exhibits on the mechanics of fishing and the tools of the trade. At this small museum, you can receive personalized attention. The house itself is incredible —...
