We brought our 1994 Honda Passport in for inspection to Merchant Tires. We were called and told that we needed to replace several items. The windshield wipers, three light bulbs(center brake light and two other marker lights). They also informed us that the power steering belt must be changed to pass inspection . These three items and a state inspection cost $249.00. I usually replace maintenance items and do my own service myself so I was shocked when we were told the cost. Ok, I may not know what other similar service stations charge but I do know the cost of these items. RainX wiper blades at local parts store cost $17.99, small marker light bulbs at most are $4.49 X 3= $13.47, V belt for power steering (no V belt for this car cost over $8.19) and the inspection is $16. I also understand they have business expenses but all these parts in total cost, with tax is less than $49.00. Part of my upset about this whole experience is that I didn't have the cost of these repairs clearly understood. I do feel for all of the people who are at the mercy of auto repair shops and may not understand what is involved to repair your car but I believe auto repair is of one of the most complained about services for a good reason.
