Originally owned by the Randolph family, Tuckahoe is 7 mi west of Richmond, on the James River. Thomas Jefferson spent his boyhood years, from 1745 until 1752, here. In fact, he began his studies in the one-room schoolhouse that still stands on the beautifully landscaped grounds, which are open daily for self-guided tours. Guided tours of the house are by appointment only, except during the...

It's really beautiful at the Tuckahoe Plantation, where my friend and I went today. We had a great time on the grounds; peaceful and calm.

Thanks to its being included as a destination during 2013's VA Garden Week, we were able to see the interior of the house where Thomas Jefferson lived as a boy and the schoolhouse nearby where he studied. In April the gardens, formal and not so formal (wildflowers and other native plants) were lovely. Docents were on hand to give information,...

This is a lovely home and one that I've taken many out-of-town guests to over the years. It is lovely and shows a plantation at its best. One that has been well cared for over the years.

The setting is beautiful and the grounds are well kept. Really a beautiful wedding venue (I'm bias 'cause of my friend) and a great place...

The boyhood home of Thomas Jefferson, this Registered Historic Landmark is considered by architectural historians to be the finest existing early 18th century plantation in America. The mansion's "H" shape plan is unique among frame buildings and the grounds contain rare outbuildings, including paired structures which were the office and schoolhouse where Thomas Jefferson went to class....

One of the oldest homes in Virginia, this was a boyhood residence of Thomas Jefferson. Tuckahoe is the location of some of Richmond's eeriest hauntings. The most notorious is of a distressed young bride who rushes down a garden path called "The Ghost Walk" supposedly searching for her beloved.
