Waited about 10 minutes for a slice of Death by Chocolate cake. They sent out 2 group orders that I saw. They said they had to cut the cake. Well if they did, it was HALF what I had when Marcel owned the restaurant. In addition, I requested a refund to leave, no way were they going to give it. The cake had the TOP SLICE HALF off, missing. Quality control? Requested a refund from 2 different servers and they went to "check" because they had to cut the cake. Right ...
Another classic CW tourist trap. Food is very good, but you're really going to pay for it. This restaurant is definitely living off of its reputation. Would recommend for dessert.
A joke of what it used to be. I used to frequent The Trellis 15 years ago, and that Trellis is no more. I was saddened to see that Marcel had “dumbed down” the food and atmosphere for the masses. I saw more patrons in sandals and tank tops drinking coke, than I did in shirt and tie enjoying a bottle of wine.
Presentation was sloppy, and my server was less than knowledgeable on the wine list. Sad to see such a great restaurant go after tourists rather than excellence.
Trellis is a very romantic restraunt. Great food the chef does wonderful things. Both times I ate in the garden room and I love the feeling.
With vaulted ceilings and hardwood floors, the Trellis is an airy and pleasant place. The imaginative lunch and dinner menus change with the seasons. A good wine list complements such dishes as homemade tomato bisque, wild boar, and soft-shell crabs. The seafood entrées are particularly good, and many patrons wouldn't leave without ordering the rich Death by Chocolate, the restaurant's...
In Merchants Square—the mall at the beginning of Colonial World—this froufrou contemporary place is styled like a greenhouse, with pine beams and bentwood upholstered chairs. Since 1980, it's been where parents take their William & Mary offspring—and where tourists reenter the 21st century. The seasonal food is very likable (sautéed flounder over white corn and baby bok choy; seared pork...
Executive chef Marcel Desaulniers is best known for his Death by Chocolate dessert cookbook, whose namesake is the finest item offered here these days. The menu changes every season to take advantage of local produce. The fixed-price dinner, which includes a salad or a bowl of soup, a main course, and ice cream or sorbet, is a money-saver, but I always upgrade the dessert to Marcel's sinful...
Located in the center of Merchant's Square, contemporary American cuisine is served at the restaurant that offers a seasonal menu.
The best part of my brunch was the friends I was dining with. Because we had such a lively conversation we were having the very slow beverage service (2 of our 3 drinks arrived with the food, which also took quite a long while) wasn't too disturbing.
The biscuits made on site were absolutely the best I have ever had....
We had lunch there today. The menu choices were great and we had the chicken and tuna salad plate. Everything was fresh, including the fruit cup. Our waitress Kate was very helpful.
Had a great lunch of salmon duo which was grilled salmon and smoked. It was delicious. My girlfriend had the caprese. Nice presentation. Service was so so as we ordered lunch with wine and didn't get our drinks till after we received our lunch. Was not very attentive. Other than that very enjoyable.
We went to The Trellis for brunch for our anniversary and it was not as good as we hoped it would be. The server was very friendly, but being on the patio (which was full), she was pretty busy so she didn't check back as often as desired. My husband had the burger, which was overcooked, but still good. I...
Not sure what more I can say! We were welcomed and seated as soon as we walked in the door. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the menu and made some great recommendations. I highly recommend the pimento cheese appetizer. For dinner I had the shrimp and grits. Huge portion!! And I ate it all! It was so good!
