Which room to book: Any of the Salons overlooking Madison Avenue. The suites, while very large, feel corporate.

Set among town houses between Madison and Fifth avenues, the Surrey has always reeked of classic Upper East Side elegance. But after a $60-million “re-creation,” when you step inside the Art Deco gray-marble lobby and notice graffiti splattered on a large dresser near the elevators, you understand the “re-creation” was to offer elegance with an edge. Along with the Beaux Arts grandeur of the...

Though this hotel has been updated for the modern age, it's not hard to imagine John F. Kennedy or Bette Davis waiting in the lobby of the former residential property --- especially since both were one-time guests, along with many other…

Modern, lux accommodation on the Upper East. Beaux-Arts classic upgraded to the tune of $60 mill. Interior adds Art Deco flair, right down to a custom- furnishing and hand-painting level of detail. New York cool is not neglected, with art by the likes of Jenny Holzer and Richard Serra, city pics, and a little graffitied whimsy here and there. Rooms start at a palatial 350 square feet, decked...

Supervisor Allan Rodriguez

Allan, the manager at The Surrey is very accommodating and made us feel welcome. We had a few snags with flight (I fell terribly sick) to NYC and he helped ironed out all of them. The hotel is absolutely lovely! We have been devoted Ritz guests all my life and now that the Battery Park location is apartments, we have found our new home away from home. Thank you, Allan and The Surrey.

Lovely hotel, great bar and quiet yet central location

Arrive just before Xmas and was upgraded to their penthouse suite. Fantastic views. Excellent room service personnel- fast, friendly and professional. Bar is one of my favorites. Breakfast not up to par with the various staff members. Will definitely stay here again.

Short New York Getaway

The hotel was in a great location for us but our disappointment was with things not being as advertised. For example, the Studio with two Queen beds shows a cute little terrace in the images when you select that room type upon booking - however that cute little terrace is actually NOT available for that room type. Also, they boast about the beautiful roof top terrace but it's closed for more...

not a Relais & Chateaux

This property should not at all be associated in anyway with the Relais & Chateaux collection of incredible properties. This hotel has nothing which would relate it to Relais & Chateaux. My check in was horrible. I paid for an upgraded room and got a room with cracked walls, a broken window which almost cut my finger off like a guillotine. The shower flowed so much water, an environmental...
