My friend and I, visiting from out of town, chose The Rumor Mill for dinner, not realizing it is both an infusion bar and a tapas restaurant. The drinks menu looked fabulous, but we were teetotalling on this trip (DIL is pregnant). Even though there was a large group of women seated next to us, I was surprised at how quiet the room remained. With small plates, it's sometimes hard to get a flow going with the servers, but Rumor Mill has that down pat, with several servers stopping by to see if we were ready for another round. The...

We had 7pm reservations on a Friday and it was nearly empty downstairs. That should have been our first tip. The cocktails were great, the food was pretty average. The menu is trendy but a bit all over the place (brussel sprouts meets pork belly meets po boy meets bison steak). A bit of refinement and focus would serve this restaurant well. This is an ambitious small-plates fusion joint. It has been know to trip itself up, resulting in inconsistent results, but in a conservative dining town, the Rumor Mill's gung-ho attitude deserves some patient support.
