What the community has to say about The Front Cafe

Information about this business (1)

The Front Cafe, one of the pioneers in the resurgence of Northeast Minneapolis, was originally established as a bar in 1994. It offered simple libations, dancing and creative entertainment. As the neighborhood grew and matured so did The Front Cafe. In November 2008 we expanded our offerings to include lunch and dinner.

Like our website, our hospitality mission is simple and straightforward:...

The Front Café

The thick, all-beef patty with smoky chipotle peppers, adobo spices and piled high with provolone, crisp bacon, grilled onions, pineapple and a tangy sauce (whew!),  sat expectantly before us. This burger meant business—dainty eaters beware. One messy mouthful after another and the creation was soon gone, leaving behind a subtle mouth-heat; just a memory of its sassy flavors.

The Front gets a Latin-infused cabaret-style makeover.

The Front gets a Latin-infused cabaret-style makeover at this dark and intimate cafe. In what was once a spot for retro dance nights, Bondage-A-Go-Go and hipster goth parties, the Front has...

This place was a blast! Great dancing bar, and apparently not a bad place for a straight fellow to find a girl and hookup. Both of my friends talked and...

The only time (so far) that I have been at Ground Zero is for a friends album release party. It's dark, but that goes with the decor! They had a 2-for-1...

Business description (3)

Eating places

The Front is a Northeast Minneapolis restaurant and bar with a charming 1930s vintage atmosphere. Extra amenities include a fireplace and lovely outdoor patio. The menu is Latin influenced but also has American and Italian items, with plenty of shareable appetizers. There is late night dancing on Fridays and Saturdays with live DJ sets from above (not from God—their DJ booth is just really high...

The Extras

In the spring and summer months, a sidewalk patio filled with impatiens and colorful floral arrangements caters to downtown workers and Northeast residents who take in the sights, sounds and smells of this budding neighborhood just east of downtown.

Parking

Parking can be difficult along 4th Street and neighboring streets. Almost all of the spots are metered and require at least $1.00 to park for up to two hours. A few blocks away on First Street there is a parking garage, which, depending on the time of day or evening, might require a few more bucks. But it’s worth it for the ease.
