What the community has to say about The Beatrice Inn

Information about this business (1)

The Beatrice Inn is an inviting restaurant between 4th Street & 8th Avenue. It is a great place to meet a friend for a peaceful dinner or even for a date as the ambience is romantic with dimly lit lamps and a decor with a vintage appeal. The food is simply exquisite with chicken, steak and pork specials to try from. They also whip up some interesting cocktails.

Editorial reviews from the web (4)

This longtime West Village basement recently enjoyed a short life as a too-hip-for-words nightspot and is now back as a "standard" American chophouse courtesy of editor/restaurateur Graydon Carter (Monkey Bar, Waverly Inn); look for dual dining rooms exuding downtown "townhouse" charm, uptown pricing and a relatively democratic door policy, despite the "celebrities" in attendance.

After countless trial dinners and private parties, Graydon Carter’s third restaurant, with a bar, a nicely-upholstered library-style dining room, and an airier rear dining room, all in another restoration job, finally opened, with chef Brian Nasworthy’s American menu that’s part chophouse, part Italian and thoroughly up to date. — Florence Fabricant

Apparently Grayden Carter has a thing for Village inns. Unlike the Waverly (and unlike its Matt Abramcyk/Paul Sevigny incarnation), reinvented Bea will be open to civilians. Neighborhood chophouse is the aim, with a seasonal menu from a former Per Se hand. Think classics like steaks, shrimp cocktails, and well-poured martinis. Pasta specials nod back to the longstanding Italian presence here....

A Voce Alum Hillary Sterling IN at the Beatrice Inn

Graydon Carter's revamp of the Beatrice Inn is already on its third chef?sort of. Opening chef Brian Nasworthy left two weeks ago, with Calliope chef/co-owner Eric Korsch (an alum of Carter's Waverly Inn) taking over on an interim basis until a permanent replacement could be found. Today, Flo Fab reports that Hillary Sterling has been hired to take over the kitchen full time.

We made a reservation up front , nevertheless the seats where not available when we arrived, we had to wait over 20 minutes in the Bar which is crowded and noisy (in separate area).

Although despite having a reservation it was still nearly 30 mins past the reservation time before we were seated. Also it was a Friday night and we were seated in the bar and the volume was loud. We had to shout above the music to talk to each other or our server. Food was outstanding and the decor / environment was great. Would recommend for foodies but not a place to take your parents or...

We ended up stopping in for cocktails while waiting for a dinner reservation at Cafe Cluny, which is a fantastic spot right across the street. Because the cocktail and bar experience was highly enjoyable along with the fireplace, we vowed to return to try the burger on the next dreary winter night.

Loved the food at Beatrice Inn. Was not that thrilled with having to wait an hour to be seated for an 8:15 reservation that I made right here on Open Table. Especially when there were tables empty in the dining room. They may claim to be past the games that were at play in the old days of Beatrice; however, they're not.

In its rich history, this restaurant has served as a speakeasy in the 1920s, a neighborhood Italian restaurant for over 50 years, and a night club for Hollywood A-listers. Now, under the ownership of Chef Mar, The Beatrice's meat-centric menu focuses on dry...
