Tucked gracefully away from the Virginia Beach Oceanfront, Terrapin is a sophisticated restaurant serving Contemporary (new) American Cuisine. The food is modern but classic, and new items are introduced each season with a mission to support the local community. Part of the excitement of dining at Terrapin is a result of the casual but elegant surroundings created by its serene colors and...
The chef and staff at Terrapin are wonderful people -- kind, friendly, knowledgeable, and witty. And the food is amazing -- from the bar drinks right through the main course to the delectable desserts -- a meal here is an event and a special occasion in itself.
The food was mediocre at best, and for the prices downright bad. The cheapest dish on the entree menu was $25, a vegetarian pasta dish with very little flavor and no special ingredients. The meat entrees we had were fine, but again for the prices they are charging one expects the food to be outstanding not just fine. The only thing we enjoyed and found appropriately priced (price/quality ratio) were the desserts. They do have a good pastry chef. The high prices would be a detterrent to us to give this place another chance. There are too many other new places to try and risk wasting our money.
Absolutely the best restaurant in Southern Hampton Roads. Chef Rodney Einhorn is second to none. His flavor profiles are amazing and the wine list compliments the menu perfectly. If you appreciate culinary artistry, than you must experience dinner at Terrapin Restaurant.
One of the very few restaurants in the area using products from local sustainable farms. Chef Rodney Einhorn and staff allow these products to showcase by using proper technique and simplicity.
Turtles have long been a totem for Rodney Einhorn. He rescues them and names them after his hero-chefs. So after graduating from the Culinary Institute of America, working at Le Cirque 2000 and making his own name at Aspen’s Sky Hotel, he decided to open an upscale restaurant near the oceanfront where he grew up and call it Terrapin. Perhaps the name is also a double entendre as it’s a showcase...
Fantastic. Fine dining at its best. Enjoyed the special of filet with lobster tail. Truly outstanding.
Fantastic food , very good atmosphere... attention to every detail to make the occasion special... first time I took my wife here was our first anniversary and they far exceeded my expectations so I returned this time for Valentine's Day and the experience was just as good ... fantastic farm to table rotating menu , service is above and beyond and they offer a fantastic wine pairing menu too
Terrapin has been a reliable favorite of ours for years, and our visit on Friday night was right in line with our previous experiences. Service was excellent. Our food (the pork chop and striped bass) arrived quickly, hot, and cooked to order. The food was delicious and flavorful. Ariel's deserts were outstanding, and Brian came up with a good desert wine pairing for us. Keep up the good work!
We've eaten here many times and have enjoyed the experience. Trained waitstaff and skilled delivery of service is a major plus. This time, however, was a bit different, service was excellent as always, but we waited a very long time for our meal, and when it arrived, it was not up to the usual Terrapin standards. The restaurant was full (Saturday, after 7 PM). Our guess was that the kitchen...
Although the food was very good, the wait for dinner was ridiculously long. We arrived for a 6:30pm meal and weren't served the main course till around 9:30. There were long lapses between the courses and our waiter, although nice was never really around.
