best place for softshell crabs
get the fried oysters and fried shrimp before they cant get anymore from the gulf
mmmm. mmmm. Good! Campbells said it best, this place has the best soups in town. The soup de' jour is always a surprise ranging from seafood, and beef based soups, to thicker creamy soups that are simply divine. There is however a soup that never seems to change; The Hatteras Clam Chowder, a recipie of the Chefs own design never ceases to please the palette. The menu consists of everything from Burgers and Fries, to Salmon and Feta. An all together enjoyable experience, the staff is very friendly and makes sure to accomadate every need you may have. The perfect place to bring the entire family.
I continue to be impressed with the superb quality of food that comes out of the kitchen. The chef is a Culinary Institute graduate but I love the "down home feeling" about the place. Nobody to puts on any airs there, they just deliver. My family and I have never been disapointed. And we all have such different taste, too! I love the fact that my husband and I can have a really nice fresh seafood dinner (oh,have you tried their oysters yet?) while my children get a good selection of things to choose from. It's a great family atmospere in there. The whole Tabb family have worked there at one time or another and if you go there often enough you will get to meet the whole crew. Kathy works the door and a nicer person you will not meet. Jeff's mom works on Sunday, often with a family friend , Nancy. These ladies welcome you to the best Sunday brunch you can find anywhere in Hampton Roads .Another time, you might meet Robert, Laura or Joel. One thing for sure, you will never be disapointed!
Very disappointed. Too little too much.
I've driven past Tabb's several times and always seen the parking lot full--went inside for lunch 3 Aug 07.
Dining room was cluttered by design, table was sticky and covered with crumbs (as was my chair). Smoke from the bar drifted throughout the restaurant.
Our waitress was new (not always bad), and unfamiliar with the menu and specials.
I had the "Famous Oysters" lunch entree--about 8 fried oysters (good, not great), a small handful of fries, and simple cole slaw. My wife had the caesar salad with oysters--simply romaine, a few tomatoes, and about 8 oysters.
For $28 (including a tea and a soda) + tip, we could have had a much better meal at A.W. Schuck's or Tanner's Creek.
This restaurant was recommended by older locals, unfortunately, it's past its peak.
