I was looking for a place to take my 7 year old daughter for her birthday and after reading the reviews I was VERY hesitant to give them a try. However, after reading the other kids spa reviews I figured that I it wouldn’t really matter much as neither of them had favorable reviews. I was surprised how friendly the staff was when I called to make my appointment. I was looking for something on Saturday (I called on Thursday and to boot it was the day after Christmas) and they were very nice and gave me several options. When we arrived, they were very friendly and took us back right away. Because of the review that I had read, I decided that I would try the services as well (they will service an adult that comes with a child). The first thing that I noticed was how clean it was and how it felt like an adult spa for kids. The colors were perfect and the music was just right. Jessica was the young lady that did my pedicure was very attentive to what I needed and endured that I was comfortable. Ashley did my daughters pedicure and talked with her about her hobbies and made her feel completely relaxed. Even though our original appointment was only for pedicures, I decided to add a glitter tattoo for my daughter and they were happy to add that for us. We had a wonderful time at Sunshine Smiles A Kids Spa and are planning to celebrate my 10 year olds birthday there next month! I would not let the other review discourage you from trying them because I am recommending them to everyone with a little girl that wants to be pampered!!
I brought my daughter in for a surprise birthday spa package only to find out that they had booked the wrong day. When I made the appointment, they repeated the date back to me so I know this was a mistake on their end. No big deal, things happen. EXCEPT, the receptionist was really rude. She said "your appointment was for next weekend" like I was some sort of idiot and showed up on the wrong day. Zero attempt to see if there was a time slot available later, zero attempt at an apology, zero attempt at trying to accomodate me in any way. Her whole demeanor was apalling. My daughter was already disappointed and I didn't want to make it worse, so I asked her to cancel our appointment and figured I would follow up with management later. As we left, my daughter looked behind us and said the the receptionist was turned talking to someone in the back and laughing. What is this, Mean Girls?
I then posted on their Facebook page a review about what happened and how disappointed my daughter and I both were. Management responded with a terse "management is always on site, if you had a problem, you should have told us before leaving." I replied that yes, perhaps I should have said something while I was there, but I didn't want to have that conversation in front of my already disappointed daughter, and that I was making them aware of the situation now. Do you think they would respond with a "Please allow us a chance to make it better, we'll be happy to reschedule you"? NOOOOOO They referred me to a kids spa in Chesapeake and basically told me they didn't need my business. Must be great in this economy to be doing so well you can treat your customers that way. My friends on Facebook saw the spa's comments to me and could not believe it. They said things like "Their bad customer service is excusable because it's your fault because you didn't ask for management when you were there?" and "Really? Did they just tell you to take your business elsewhere?" Why yes, my friends, they did.
I have been to high end big city and resort adult spas that didn't have the attitude this place had. It was so bizarre I couldn't even believe we had been treated that way. The spa deleted all my comments from their Facebook page and then went on a spree of posts thanking every other person who apparently came in that day. I would never return to this spa and recommend that you don't give them your business either. They certainly have no problem referring you elsewhere if you don't like their prima donna attitude, so skip the aggravation and oblige them by just going somewhere else.
I am glad I went in for a trial run before booking a birthday party there for my daughter as I had originally intended. I would give them zero stars if I could.
Took my daughter to Sunshine and Smiles for her birthday at her request, did the hair chalk and braid with her. Problem, no one there EVER advised me not to use the pink chalk on blonde hair, as it does not always wash out. It did not wash out and after trying every over the counter product, spent over $80.00 having to have it fixed by a professional worst part, even after speaking with them several times, not one time did anyone from Sunshine and Smiles offer to help with cost, something back on the over 100 I spent there, or even so little as to take my name and number and simply follow up on the problem. Will never return. Very poor way to conduct your business. You should never not follow up.
This place is fantastic! We saw an ad at the movies and the granddaughters were begging to go. We may become their most frequent customers. Great attention to detail.
