Standard is a celebration of the backyard barbecue traditions we grew up with and a tip of our hats to the biergartens of Bavaria. We want standard to be a friendly, fun, and affordable neighborhood place where folks can relax outside in the heart of the city. The proprietors of standard, Tad Curtz and David Rosner, are both native New Englanders accustomed to long and snowy winters. NORTHEAST— Tonight, Union Market's Rappahannock Oyster Bar will host Southern Chef Edward Lee for a book event. Starting at 6 p.m., the Top Chef alumnus will cook up warmed oysters with bourbon brown butter and sign his cookbook, Smoke & Pickles. There are free drinks, too. [EaterWire]

Eater Readers' Favorite Underrated Burgers: A Checklist

Eater recently asked readers to zero in on the city's underrated burgers: those burgers that don't get the attention or claim that they deserve. Boy, did everyone have an opinion, and courtesy of the tipline and comments section, here's an Underrated Burgers Checklist to help burger fans guide themselves through the city's lesser-known burger destinations. For this checklist of 35 restaurants,...

Burger Days Blogger Offers a Burger for Any Occasion

Jody Fellows has spent the past four years eating his way through the city's burger joints, and chronicling it all on his blog, Burger Days.

What made you decide to start Burger Days?
There was a specific point, probably five or six years ago now, where an article in GQ by Alan Richman ran, "XX Burgers to Eat Before You Die" or something along those lines. It was the same yar the Nationals...

And Now, D.C.'s Iconic Sandwiches Revealed

Iconic sandwiches are being celebrated across the Eater universe today. These are the sandwiches that draw D.C.'s most devoted followings — the sandwiches also often receive critical praise as well. Eater has decided to forego hot dogs and hamburgers for this particular roundup (sorry, half-smoke) to focus on these 20 favorites, from grilled cheese to Italian hoagies. There's also an emphasis...

It's back. Standard, Logan Circle's incredibly popular outdoor bar and barbecue destination, reopens its doors tonight at 1801 14th St. NW, after closing for the winter season.

It all starts back up at 5 p.m. today, according to owner Tad Curtz. The bar will feature some new beers, including the Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock. Whole pig heads are back, and Standard plans to serve lobster rolls...

Great spot to sit outside and drink huge beers

Average Rating

I'm not a huge bbq fan, so I can't judge the food....but this is a great space to sit outside and drink huge beers. This spot often gets busy, so you might find yourself standing outside or seated next to strangers at one of the large picnic tables, but that is part of the experience. It's a beer garden, so...

Perfect summer evening spot

We came on a Saturday night and it was not easy to find a table for the group of 7, but that was expected. Short beer list but they are decent. They offer a huge mug, double the size for double the cost, which is not a better price but fun due to how large it is. Costs $14 for...

GOOOOOOOOD BBQ

This place rocks!
Was in town for the weekend and in the mood for BBQ. So glad we came across Standard. We walked up and it reminded me of a German beer garden. Haven been to the real Hofbrau house in Munich the long tables and benches and the rowdy crowd was a dose of nostalgia!
We were ordering takeout,...

Good BBQ, very limited beverage options, hit-or-miss overall

If you time it right, it's a festive, small outdoor afternoon BBQ place on DC's hip 14th St. corridor.
Otherwise, it's too packed with little air flow. There's no organized seating - which is usually awkward with everyone hovering. That spills over to service - it's fine but they always seem like they're trying to get their bearings.
The bar...

Such a fun outdoor picnic vibe

During the summer last year I was a frequent customer at Standard. The atmosphere is great and the food is well done too. I'm sure others have mentioned it, but you should definitely get a donut, they are divine. Don't pass up the BBQ either, it's seriously good.
The beer list is short but it keeps the quality top-notch and...
