Information about this business (1)

This charming white clapboard home is part of one of Virginia's oldest plantations. Built in the early 1700s, it was purchased in 1770 by the renowned patriot Patrick Henry, perhaps most well-known for his "Give me liberty, or give me death" speech delivered at St John's Church in Richmond. He lived here with his wife, Sarah, and their six children. The house displays many of Henry's personal...

Patrick Henry's plantation, Scotchtown.

Average Rating

One of Virginia's oldest plantation houses, Scotchtown is a charming one-story white-clapboard home. Charles Chiswell of Williamsburg built it around 1719, but it's best known as a residence of Patrick Henry, who lived here from 1771 to 1778 with his wife, Sarah, and their six children. Henry served as governor of Virginia during those years, but sadly, Sarah was mentally ill during much of...

Yes, it may be somewhat off of the beaten path perhaps about 10 miles west of Ashland, however, you will be happy that you made the trip. Not to repeat what others had posted but this was one of many of Patrick Henry residences. From here he became Virginia's first governor. Allow about 90 minutes for the informative tour and...

A historic house with reconstructed outbuildings, isolated geographically and not much here once you get here. (This could not have helped the mental condition of the first Mrs. Patrick Henry, confined to the basement.) Docents will engage you in dialogue about liberty. (Probably what the first Mrs. Patrick Henry had, too.) At least the gardens and grounds could be better...

Very fascinating home to tour. Our guide knew a lot about Patrick Henry and the home. Tour takes about 45 minutes. We were little disappointed that there were very few family pieces and some that were not true to the period.

Built in 1719, Scotchtown was the marital home of Patrick Henry and Sarah Shelton. Patrick Henry was living at Scotchtown when he delivered
his famous 'Give me liberty or give me death!' speech that swung the Virginia House of Burgesses' vote in favor of Revolution. Preservation Virginia has
faithfully restored the home to its 18th century appearance, and if you...

This suburban Richmond property was home to Patrick Henry, Virginia revolutionary figure and the state's first governor. Henry's lovely plantation home dates from the early 18th century and has been restored. Interesting look at the historical and cultural artifacts of this storied Virginia region.©10Best.com

One of the oldest plantation houses in Virginia, this historic home was the home of Dolly Madison when she was a young girl, as well as the home of Patrick Henry, the fiery orator of the Revolution, between 1771 and 1778.
