I want to begin my review of this completely awful dining experience with something from my wife, who happens to be one of the sweetest persons on the face of the earth, a 30+ year elementary teacher who rarely has an unkind word for anyone, and always gives everyone the benefit of the doubt. When we got in our car to leave she said she felt "Horrified, embarrassed and violated" by the actions of the owner. To say we'll never come back wouldn't scratch the surface.
My wife and I went here on Thursday evening about 7:30-August 23. After being promptly seated, the service soon became all but non-existent. We waited probably ten minutes or more for our initial drink order was taken. We were served with the garlic knots fairly quickly and they were ok-but certainly not awesome as I had been led to believe. 15-20 minutes later, having uncomfortably watched our waiter and others scurry all around us, the owner noticed we hadn't had our order taken yet and sent a new waitress to our table who immediately took our order. She was very nice and professional. The initially assigned waiter continued walking all around the dining room but seemed not to see us. Hoping to order a glass of wine, I sat with the wine list in my hand for probably fifteen minutes while waiting for our entree's to arrive. No one seemed to notice or care. I never had an opportunity to order any wine. While still waiting for our dinners to arrive, the owner came over and asked us how things were. I described as politely as I could the scene above. This man then proceeded to make matters much worse by launching an extremely loud and arrogant tirade attempting to dismiss our concerns. He told me "In 27 years in the business, I've learned you can't please everyone. You can check my service reviews. I am one of the top restaurants on the East Coast, not just in Virginia. Even in New York and Miami my service is recognized. You know, when I go to a restaurant, I come for the food, not to have conversation with the waiter." We should have left immediately, but honestly, we were shocked. It was embarrassing because other diners were looking over at our table, though I doubt seriously he was embarrassed, as he should have been.
When our food finally arrived, things only got worse. My lasagna was mediocre at best. 4/5th of it was a large chunk of mozzerala. My wife did like the flavor of her calzone, but found a large piece of plastic wrap in the sauce that came with it. This piece of plastic was easily 2" X 4"-no joke. When we brought this to the waiter's attention(he happened to finally be passing our table) he immediately called the owner, who told my wife, again loudly and in a condescending, angry manner, "Oh that is nothing. We just bought a large tub and it is the wrapping from the tub. It is nothing." The plastic wrap is cooked into your supposedly home-made sauce?
We asked for our bill. No offer of any kind of consolation was given-nor did we ask any. The waiter did come and apologize-twice. While we were signing the bill, the owner came by with a plate, slammed quickly on our table with a single word "sweets." I'd love to assume this was his sad attempt at righting his behavior, but I feel certain he had no clue as to his arrogance and rudeness and the sweets were delivered to satisfy our displeasure with the service. Perhaps in New York or Miami patrons are comfortable with this type of attitude, but here in Tidewater it just doesn't fly. The waiter's lack of attention to our table paled in comparison to this owner's arrogance and rudeness. We actually left there feeling badly for the people who have to work with such an arrogant, rude jerk. If he was this awful to us, imagine the plight of the poor working people under his "management." No. We will never, ever go back.
Really really really good. The pizza was the best I had in a long time. Love the staff and the building,..... Th garlic knots were straight heavennnnnnnn.Love this place
Just like a rare oyster contains a pearl, this Kempsville Marketplace strip mall contains a gem of an Italian restaurant. Though the strip mall itself seems a bit dated and run down, Salvatore's Pizzeria stands out as a well decorated exception. The store is split into three parts: a take-out section, a dining …
I've been there twice. Both times I received excellent service and the food was fantastic. They even gave us free garlic knots! I swear my bill was cheaper than It should have been. I order a couple slices. I could've just ordered one. They were big. A true NY style slice with fresh toppings. The table next to us …
I don't know why I've never walked into this establishment before but I'm glad I did. Salvatore's is a fantastic Italian restaurant and has the fine decor to boot. In addition, the service is great and that is more than enough to facilitate future visits.I work down the street and when my boss gave me an extra hour off …
This place is fabulous and is our favorite place to go out to eat. The staff is friendly and attentive and the food is delicious. The eggplant rollitini is amazing and the tortellini with mushrooms, peas in a marsala cream sauce is my absolute favorite!
