Help us make it rightWe call Sakamai a New York Izakaya. The cuisine is a creative riff on Japanese tavern fare from a New York perspective, complemented by a beverage program of original cocktails and Japan's most expressive sake, shochu, wine and beer, curated to make it accessible to the American diner.
From OpenTable:
SakaMai is New York City's first dedicated saké lounge, celebrating traditional Japanese beverages in the modern Lower East Side.

This new LES sake lounge backs up its "amazing" rice-wine list with a "refined" menu of Japanese dishes that are "perfectly matched" to the liquids; the dimly lit room exudes downtown cool, thanks to equal parts of distressed brick, votive lights and filmy curtains.
SakaMai is a Japanese restaurant filtered through an American consciousness, respectful of tradition but not bound by it. The chef, Takanori Akiyama, is a native of Japan who has long incorporated Western elements in his cooking. Some dishes, like dried and broiled skate wings still threaded with cartilage, are excellent examples of izakaya food; others — like sea urchin and sturgeon caviar...
New York's first "dedicated" sake lounge, with a wide range of Japanese beverages and snacks and small and large plates from Asia.
Sake focus, and not in some snobby way. Logo borrows the crest of rice harvesters, name comes from the grains dedicated to sake. Flights allow a range of experiencing, enhanced with an artful cocktail program from an Angel's Share hand. Bites go equally thoughtful (and exotic). Beef doubles down with steak tartare and roasted bone marrow. Egg on Egg on Egg as pretty as a jewel box, settling...
Dolce Vita drops a petite men’s boutique right around the corner. Targets same demo as the mother store, namely “the young, the restless and the glamorous.” Traditional styles get modern refinement and a touch of edge. For your feet, pick from chukkas, loafers, oxfords, and lace-up boots, finished in leather or suede. Complete your look with a T, a button-down, and a Shades of Grey khaki...
We did not have a dedicated server, they did not pace the dishes properly. And they acted like we were doing them a favor by asking for our check 45 minutes after we had finished our meal. The hostess with the shaved head was incredibly rude. Won't be coming back.
Third time there and it was exceptional. We went a year ago and had a had experience. So we figured we'd try it again. Food was 10/10 just not large portions so you order a lot of things. Waiter was great very friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.
the egg on egg on egg is a must try, but the AC doesn't seem to work for that day I went there, it's so freezing inside the restaurant. Otherwise, it's a quiet place to enjoy ur food. Price is a little bit higher than I thought.
Took a group of six here and everyone was raving over our meal! Loved the sushi, fried chicken, duck, and veggies were cooked perfectly. We really loved the creative and carefully thought out menu - it felt like a special occasion but was actually pretty reasonably priced. Will definitely be back soon.
egg on egg on egg is amazing. Three different things combine together taste so good.
Creative Japanese-fusion cuisine by internationally-celebrated chef, Takanori Akiyama. We also offer an extensive sake & shochu selection, rare Japanese whiskies, and original Japanese-inspired craft cocktails.
