Several branches scattered throughout the city. Once you get to the one at Tredegar, get a map and you can visit the remaining ones. Some may still not be open for the season so check first.

No ranger station

I always like to visit the Ranger Station first, but this battlefield doesn’t really have one. If you’re looking for a stamp for your parks passport, go to The Tredegar Civil War Museum gift shop counter.

This is a National Park site. It is free and excellent. Don’t get confused by the “American Civil War Museum” next door, which costs 12 bucks and is decidedly flawed and factually deficient. Here at the modest National Park site, you can view excellent artifacts...

Civil War Battlefield tour

We spend the afternoon traveling along the roads around Richmond. The weather was sunny and warm and there were few people visiting the sites. It helped one understand the magnitude of the battles.

Malvern Hill is the site of the last battle of the 1862 Peninsula Campaign and Lee’s first defeat. Battlefield is one of the best...

Business description (3)

Richmond National Battlefield Park consists of over 30 battle sites from the American Civil War, when Richmond was the capitol of the Confederate States of America. Many important sites from throughout the war are in the Battlefield Park, including Chimborazo Hospital, Fort Harrison, Drewry's Bluff and Tradegar Iron Works. The different sites in the park are actually spread over the entire city...

Eleven different sites used during the attempts of the Union army to take the capital of the Confederacy, Richmond, are enclosed by Richmond National Battlefield Park.

The grim site of Chimborazo, one of the Confederacy's largest hospitals, begins a tour of the Civil War battlefields of Richmond. A map obtained here will lead you to the sites of the Battles of Chickahominy Bluff, Beaver Dam Creek, and many more. The bloodiest battle of all was at Cold Harbor. The losses here were greater than those at Gettysburg when time is figured in; 16,000 men were lost,...
