Information about this business (1)

This brewery has been around since 2006, and uses high quality conical fermenters to create some of the most eclectic varieties of beer in Williamsburg. Popular brews include the summery Wheat Ale, and the rich Red Porter Ale, with deep hints of fruit. The tour is a bargain five dollars - you'll have the chance to learn about the history of AleWerks and best of all, receive free tastings and a...

Entertaining host, excellent beer

Average Rating

This is a brewery with an associated tasting room. They had many, many beers on tap - too many to taste and continue driving. :) We enjoyed all that we tried, and it was full before, during and after our tour, so recommend to get there ahead of scheduled tour times. We had a coupon for money off the tour...

Beer is Food

The fact that this is the # 24 restaurant in Williamsburg is funny because they actually don't have any food. That being said I really enjoyed the tour. Not an expansive tour but the guides work hard to make you laugh and learn, plus the tasting did not disappoint. I found myself trying to find flaws during the tasting but...

Nice little Brewery

Good beers (the Drake IPA and Washington Porter are the best of their standard) and you can't beat a $4 tasting. Not sure if they always have free pretzels, but I appreciated it. Recommend stopping by if you are looking for a change of pace while in Williamsburg, especially if the Mrs. wants to go to the outlets.

Interesting place; very good beer

Not much of a tour, per se, but very informative. Very impressed with the guys who work here and their knowledge. Can't wait to see how things go in the future for them. Worth an hour an two, for sure.

Great Ale, personalities and service

Stopped in for the brewery tour and tasting as my husband is a beer fan. The brewery tour is small as they're a small brewery but very informative of the history of beer and their facility. The tasting room is partly under construction as they're adding a new bar which will be nice when done. Super selections of growlers and...

all in all good place, 6 bucks plus tax for their cheapest growler and to fill ranges from 7 bucks to 15. If your expecting a tavern this is not the place. come here to fill up a growler and talk about beer. They also sell tee shirts which for some in inexplicable reason seem to be popular.

One of he Better Brew Tastings Around

I visited the Williamsburg Aleworks on a sleepy Saturday November afternoon when Williamsburg was very quiet but this place was hoppin! I had wanted to take the tour and arrived at 2:50 because tours were at 2 pm and 3 pm. I never did get to take the tour as the bartender had us belly up to the bar with...

Great tour and ale

That pretty much says it all. I enjoyed the tour and the tasting that followed. All in all it made for a great, low pressure afternoon. The tour guide took his time, answered all questions and took us to the tasting. The tasting included 6 drafts and on special bottle for 6 bucks. Pretty cheap enjoyable entertainment, even for a...

Love the beer and the people

I have visited the Alewerks taproom several times and have enjoyed every visit. If you love supporting local Virginia breweries, then stopping here is a must! I love all of the beers, but the pumpkin ale, coffeehouse stout, caledonia, and Drake Tail are personal favorites.

Great Brews, Fun Place

We had ordered "Aleworks" brews in several restaurants in Wiilliamsburg so were delighted when we found the taproom. We tried to go for dinner, but they don't have a restaurant so we stayed and sampled their brews. It was so much fun, they had many on tap, the staff was professional and friendly. Their pumpkin ale was awesome, and I...

My wife and I love going to the brewery to see what beers are on tap that day. The prices are good and the beers are even better! They have tours or just tastings which are always fun. All the people that work there are extremely friendly and informational. We stop here every time we are in town, and each...

Great Beer Tasting, But No Food Here

The Alewerks is only a brewery right now, there is not a restaurant at this location. My husband, mother in law, and grandfather in law participated in a beer tasting. My husband was very happy with the selection they had because he enjoys dark beers. His favorite was the Pumpkin Ale which was not available in a 6 pack. He...

My husband and I got here late on a Friday so we missed out on the tour. But we did try some beers and were happily impressed. The Tavern Ale was really tasty, and I really enjoyed the Coffeehouse Stout. We managed to take some home, but I hope that they will be able to distribute in the Shenandoah Valley...

We reserved spots on the brewery tour and arrived earlier to grab an inspirational pint. They maintain 6 taps, some of which are very hard to find. The tour took a bit longer than an hour and included guided tastes of 4 of the offerings. The staff was experienced and took the time to cover all parts of the brewing...

Great Hosts

Average Rating

This is a very small craft brew house, it is not a pub/restaurant/spot to hang out. The only reason I gave it 4 instead of 5 was because of the small size, otherwise it really surpassed expectations both in the length and quality of tour information and in the variety and amount of tastings.
The tour guide knew more about...

Seriously, good time and informative

Go mid-week, if possible, and make a reservation, Can't say what this might be for a crowd as it is a small environment, size wise, but can't help but think these people are gracious, whatever the group size. Ours was a group of only 6 which is an exception for this popular stop off. Tour was informative and had time...

Pleasantly impressed with the selection and the quality of the beer. Bought a growler so we can enjoy the 'from the tap' flavor of these great beers.

Local Brew...from Me to You

While this is not a brew pub, it is a neat place to stop by, chat about brewing beer and even to purchase a growler of your favorite. My favorite is the Coffeehouse Stout, which is rich, smooth and absolutely delicious! If you are a Pilsner or Ale person, they have that too! Tucked off the beaten path, a trip...

Stopped by to check out the microbrewery and it was really great. Sampled the beer they have on tap (think the cost was $4.00 but worth every penny. They explained each beer as we sampled and you can also purchase beer to take with you, all the samples were very smooth and had great flavor. Prices were very good. Only...

Personal tour by one of the owners

We were fortunate to have one of the owners give us a tour of the facility. He explained the brewing process and then introduced the group to a very informative and interesting guide for the tasting. Purchased ales to take home as not shipped to home state. Well worth a visit.

Great tour of a small micro brewery. The beer was great and the tour guide was very informative. A nice experience, especially if you appreciate a well made ale! An excellent value, but definitely look for the easily available coupons.

Nice little tour

I am not a beer person by any means, but this tour was a nice little stop during our vacation. The man who did the tour was knowledgable and had a nice selection of samples for us to taste. The tour is $6.00 a person, but if you get the visitors guides there are coupons for $1.00 off. You get...

Just for something to do we spent and hour on the tour and tasting. My wife and I have become huge craft beer fans and this place was not a let down. The tour was informative and the tasting was delicious. Don't forget to get some beer to take home if it's not available in your area. We also bought...

My husband and I went to Alewerks while on vacation in Williamsburg and we both agree that it was a waste of time. The man giving us the tour was extremely knowledgable of how beer was made, but it was so boring. I did not like any of the beer, and my husband said it wasn't any better than any...

We had a great time...enjoyed the 1 hour brewery tour & beer tasting!!! We had a Living Social Coupon so it was something nice to do in the area. Our guide was very knowledgeable about the history of beer, very interesting to see how beer is made and hey you get to taste test different beers....no complaints at all! I...

A Craft Beer Hit

We always try to hit a brewery and a winery on vacation and we have been to many. Williamsburg Alewerks is a favorite and we visit every time we are in Williamsburg. My husband brings along his growler and returns every other day for a refill. Have taken the tour twice, but now try to get in at the end...

We spent a fun hour taking a brief tour of the facility and then tasted six excellent beers with Al. It was fun, informative and well worth the nominal $6 fee. We had a great time and took home some growlers.

Fun Times At The Brewery

On a whim, we stopped in for the microbrewery tour today. Our son had tasted one of Williamsburg Alewerks reserve beers recently and really enjoyed it.
Having taken a tour or two in similar venues, we enjoyed the small brewery charm, history of the brews, and (of course the taste testing). At $6/person per tour, the price was right for...

terrific beers and great hospitality

We stopped in on a recent trip and had a quick tasting. No food here, just a tasting room, but they are very hospitable and kept things going despite a large party coming in right behind us. Terrific beers! I was so disappointed the pumpkin was not in stock as it had a taste like I've never experience in pumpkin...

A great little microbrewery that is somewhat hidden away. Their ales are all excellent. The tour and tasting provides a history of ale/beer making, a tour of their brewing area, and a tasting of their ales.

My friend and I have been there twice now. The first time we had a Groupon for the full tour and beer tasting, as well as a take home 6 pack of our choice and the glass from the beer tasting. We enjoyed it very much.

This is a tour of a small microbrewery in Williamsburg VA. It is not very fancy, or scenic, but if you are interested in how beers are made or you are a home-brewer yourself, this tour is interesting. The guide is very informative, and explains the process well. The tour value is good, because for $5 you get to keep...

The handful of gentlemen who operate the Alewerks craft some excellent microbrews! Was there for the 3 pm tour. $5 gets you a souvenir glass and tastings of six of the ales. Very informative
