This popular club in Norfolk features different themes and specials almost every night of the week. From goth to EDM, 90s and top 40, there's always something fun spinning and people on the dance floor. With three different bars scattered throughout, you're never too far from refreshment, and The Wave also serves up food like steaks and bites like chicken fingers.
Almost a 2 hour wait for the toughest steak I've ever eaten, and 6 violations on their last inspection. Enough said.
The Sunday Drag Brunch is AWESOME!!! I'm so freakin happy right now!! The show was awesome!! Bring plenty of ones cuz the ladies definitely earn their $$... This is the best show I've ever been...
Went here using a Groupon (brunch for 2 plus 2 non-alcoholic drinks for $20). I really enjoyed the show! The Mistress of the Ceremony, Jasmine Devoux Spaulding was hilarious! She can throw some...
This review is for the Sunday Drag Brunch. My mom was in town visiting and I there was a Groupon that included 2 brunch plates, 2 non-alcoholic drinks and the show for $19. We made reservations...

Been there a few times...
1. Staff is RUDE
2. Bartenders are UNORGANIZED (Had a bartender hand my id and card to another patron)
3. Drinks are OVERPRICED
This is probably my favorite club in the area. Staff are always friendly and courteous. Anne-Marie in the back knows what drinks I like. Her drinks are also consistently mixed evenly Not sure I'm a fan of the DJ that was playing for the Black & White party. But I don't go often enough to be overly familiar with who...
I've been to the wave many, many times and I still enjoy myself here. It's not as awesome and popular as it used to be, but they still have a great crowd and music. The bartenders are good for the most part, but they can be rude sometimes. As the only full sized "gay" club (even though it's not strictly...
I have not had a bad experience at The Wave. I enjoy the food. My husband and I attend durring Happy Hour on Friday nights, our bill tends to run around $30. I do not find that bad for our night out on the town by any means. Especially when you compare it to any of the ""bar and grill"" food chains. We will each have at least 1 drink, steak, 2 sides, and salad. Never have we walked out dissatisfied.
I have been going, personally for over three years now. \r
I've always loved Norfolk for its cultural diversity. The Wave is a great example--it's a huge and very well known gay night club right in ODU area. But The Wave is more than a gay club; it's a…
The Wave is undoubtedly going to pale in comparison to other reputedly gay bars in bigger cities, but it definitely does a damn good job for Norfolk's sake. If you're looking for somewhere to dance,…
Ah, The Wave...we meet again. I'm not as into 'dance clubs' as I was a couple of years ago, but as far as clubs in the area go this is definitely one of my favorites. The music here is great, always a…
Dancing to Prince on 80s night, dancing to the Ting Tings on Indie night, throw in some Smiths both nights, go mainstream with some Lady Gaga (don't worry, it won't ruin your hipster image). This…
The Wave is a fun place to be any night of the week, though Saturday nights are when things get interesting. Like any club or bar there is a lot of questionable activity which can't be helped.…
Watered down liquors at a high price. Be very careful visiting this drinking...
I love the wave. Technically not a gay bar but gay friendly and no one assumes everyone is gay (so lighten up).I only go on Thursdays, 80's night, which I hear is their most popular night. The club is…
Okay so after spending a disappointing night at the Rainbow Cactus when first coming here... my expectations of what the Wave would be like were extremely low. HOWEVER... I was pleasantly surprised...…
who eats there?

Tuesday: 'DoomGloom' featuring Goth, new wave, and German electro.
Wednesday(NEW JULY 2007) :TRILL Featuring New Wave Electro, Dance Rock, Hip Hop, Electro Pop, Techno, Ambient, and much unclassifiable amazing dance music and awesome DJs.
Thursday: 80's NIGHT. this night was voted best club night in Virginia i believe 2 years in a row and is generally the busiest night of the week.
Friday: SWAYZE which includes indie, brit electro, and brit pop, with some new wave here and...

The other review on here is BS. The Wave is a fun place to go, I have been going there for at least 5 years now. It's a mixed crowd of people out to have fun. They have different nights, Goth, 80's etc. They drinks are as pricey as at any other bar in the Norfolk area. Everytime I have gone there John has greeted me w/a smile at the door and the bartender knows exactly what I want. The people there are friendly and wont judge you because you don't look like them. It's probably the best club I've been to and that is why I still go.
Pros
+ Good Music and Good Friends
The Wave Restaurant is really a misnomer. I would never eat here, and the drinks are unreasonably expensive. It is really a dance club that used to be almost exclusively gay. Now, on Wednesday and Thursday nights, you can find local 18-25 scenesters getting down and acting as though they really love the Smiths and old Madonna. If you really want fun, and to skip some of the kiddies, I recommend going on Saturday night. Tonight is Saturday, and I'll be there. Don't forget to bring mace for the parking lot.
Pros
+ Friendly staff, Bar food
Cons
- Expensive drinks, Dangerous parking lot
