The Village has been a neighborhood favorite for decades. Best-selling novelist and Richmond native, Tom Robbins, used to frequent the joint. The servers are notoriously rude, but that is part of the charm. Their behavior is not so offensive as to prevent guests from having a positive experience. My husband and son called ahead to place a to go order, but decided to stay and eat (due to the rain) and was told by a waiter they had to leave. As my entrée I ordered an Italian Sub after realizing that while I read that Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives visited the Village Café, I never researched what Guy ate. I figured I’d just order whatever and hope that it was their specialty. The sub, while good, definitely was not worthy of a television show. It wasn’t particularly thick, the bun wasn’t baked on the premises and the meat wasn’t...

This place is fun. We've had dinner but this was our first time for brunch. I got a breakfast burrito. It was decent (but I am a HUGE snob about breakfast burritos) and I would order it again since it was good compared to Richmond burritos. The burrito comes with American cheese which is a travesty. I asked for pepper jack instead but my burrito came with American nevertheless. Our server was...

Typical American food , nothing special here. Pizza and Stromboli were average with dry dough , Ruben average , spaghetti meatballs had an odd taste. Nothing really bad but nothing very good either for that fact alone I wouldn't waste my time here again. Good atmosphere and service though.

...played it safe by ordering banana pancakes! I didn’t want to eat too much so I saved one pancake and only ate two. They were really tasty...We had a lot of fun at this place-it seemed very laid back and our server was awesome. He automatically split our checks up too, something I noticed they do a lot at the restaurants here.

Great spirit to this restaurant and nice atmosphere. Food portions are large but not of the highest quality. Service can be good or just ok depending on how busy it is, and it's usually pretty busy. It is a Richmond hot spot for food and socializing with college students. --(no parking lot)--

Fish & chips!. Oh my god! The fish and chips was amazing! We got a hot dog for our girls and the split it. They both had a full size hot dog. My husband and I snuck a bite of it and it was a great hot dog. My Stromboli was good, but my husbands fish & chips was the star! The fish melted in your mouth, the onion rings were perfect , and the slaw was great. The village cafe is a must in Richmond!

I decided to add this place because of the rotating craft selection and the local beer focus. They always have 2-3 craft brews available and 1 or more is local. Last Time I was there I got a Two Hearted on tap for 3.50 a pint. Damn good. The food is great and most of it is made in house, in face if you're unsure about a dish, ask. I have on multiple occasions asked if something was good and let...

unlike the HGTV fans, visiting suburbanites and city hip posers, i won't complain about lack of parking, or the wait for service or the eclectic clientele.
i quite love the quirk and the grit.

The Village Cafe is a well-established neighbourhood cafe, the type of atmosphere national chains like Applebee's and T.G.I. Friday's try to emulate, but you can't mass-produce a feel. It came on my radar screen in the spring of 2008 when Food Network personality Guy Fieri covered the cafe in a segment of his programme "Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives." It is located within a stone's throw from...

My family and I went to this cafe because of its showing on Diners, Drive-In's & Dives. We thought, we were in the Richmond area, find a cafe and visit it. It had mixed reviews at the time we were checking it out, but decided to go anyways. It was crowded for a Sunday afternoon, found a place to sit and waited for the wait staff to take our order. That was the worse thing about it - the wait staff. So slow! It took us almost two hours from start to finish just to eat basic food! It took half hour for our appetizers to come out. Whenever the waiter did come by, you needed to ask for...

We went because of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives. It was a fun atmosphere, and the food was good, but we were surprised that we were not given any guidance when ordering. For example, my 10 year old daughter had a large pizza (that we thought was for an individual). We also were surprised that we were nickel and dimed for some things that are normally included (i.e. being changed for the cheese and lettuce with a burrito...was that perhaps a mistake? I don't know).

We liked it, but it was over $80 for 6 people for lunch...4 being children.

We liked it, but just study the menu, ask...

In this cafe the un - uniformed waiters and waitresses rarely ever ask you how you're doing, but I am perfectly convinced that this is solely because they don't feel the need to ask. How could you not be doing fine when sweet tunes are escaping from an old fashioned juke box player and you are sipping a cold drink from a mini pitcher in place of a glass? (oh yeah, that's right. Mini pitchers are sweet.)
