Awesome bar

We went there on our last trip to Urbanna to see family and The Works was new since the last time we had been there. We sat in the bar area and were able to chat, have drinks and watch the Final Four game. It was a great time and really cool place. They have separate rooms, one for private...

After a failed attempt to have dinner at the urbanna seafood market we decided to go to the works which was a short walk from the B&B we were staying at. They gave as options for seating and we decided on the bar area which seemed relatively lively on a Saturday night in a small town.
I started with the...

Stopped here after our fiasco at Urbanna Seafood. Should have stopped here first

Was met at the door and promptly shown to our table. Waitress arrived and took our drink order. Drinks showed up in a timely fashion and we placed our lunch order. My wife ordered the fish and chips and I ordered the crab cake with sweet potato fries. Order arrived in a timely fashion and was excellent. Crab cake had...

We ate at the Works because it was within walking distance of the Chesapeake Inn where we stayed. It was a Friday night and the place was quite busy! Husband had the fried oyster platter which was good, about a dozen oysters on it. I had the coconut shrimp appetizer and a cup of cream of crab soup both were...

I always sit on the bar side which is just a more relaxed setting. I've never had anything bad to eat here. The Truffle Mac & Cheese was to die for. They treated my 92 year old aunt so special. We were celebrating her 92nd birthday. They brought her a Shirley Temple, dessert with burning candles and everyone sang.

The Works is a recent discovery for Mary and me, only 20 miles from home in delightful Urbanna. On both visits Mary declared the grilled salmon the best ever, and I enjoyed scallops and oysters. The salads came as we like them, ice cold. We chose the outdoor court, with heaters, although there are two dining rooms and a fine...

Service was excellent. Food prepared tastily and nice appearance. Acoustic guitar was a nice touch. Definitely give it a try.

Was here a few years ago, food and service have improved

Was in town for a high school regatta and stopped in for a late lunch after the wind decided to leave us. We had been here in 2013 and had a so-so experience. Happy to say the food and service was much improved. The oyster app was good, large flavorful and not at all slimy. I had the crab cake...

Pleasantly surprised. Stopped in for a late lunch, orderedthe arugula pear salad......wow, the shecrab soup was amazing ...lots of crab. My husband order the fish and chips with corn veggie side and it was perfect. I will definitely be back.
The town is also adorable.

Mediocre, Institutional Food

First time here. We may try in a year or so. Attractive setting, comfortable seating, liked the fireplace:). Otherwise, we experienced poor service, long waits for drinks, apps and entrees. Steak and cheese was average, fish and chips were greasy and/or overcooked, and chicken cordon bleu was obscenely large and bland. Poor beer selection and dessert options. Prices would be...

We loved The Works. They have great food and beer and other drinks. When it's warm they have a ice patio. They even let us bring our dog. This town is very special and welcoming. History, boating, hospitality. The food here is upscale and tasty.

We ordered crab dip which was primarily cream cheese and it came out with the edges warm but the center cold. It was also served with soft pita slices instead of chips or toasted bread. We then ordered sliders which were quite good.

Nice enough little bar/restaurant

We were visiting Urbanna, just to look around, on the day after Christmas. Very little was open. We tried eating at the restaurant that offers a raw bar in the title, but it was closed until January 6th. The Works rated highly on TripAdvisor, so we went in. We sat in the bar area as it was homier. There were...

I went off menu for appetizers and they went out of their way to accommodate me. We ordered two different specials for dinner and both were excellent and perfectly prepared.
Friendly, knowledgeable staff and very nice. Comfy chairs, clean setting, nice decor

Good meal in novel setting

Average Rating

Re-use of nautical flags as table cloths and ceiling decoration as well as novel art enhanced this enjoyable dining experience. The arugula salads had plenty of goats cheese and nuts, the crab cakes were excellent value and the burger good. We imbibed a nice bottle of South African Sauvignon blanc. The only thing marring the meals was that a couple...

The change in chefs has severely affected the food quality & menu originality that I once loved about The Works Bar & Grill. I won't be back.

Enjoyed the patio at The Works while sampling their beer and wine list (quite good!) and munching on calamari, fish and chips and other appetizers. This is a great happy hour spot!

I have eaten here several times and it has always been great. The staff and atmosphere are great too! This time I had the steak au poivre with au gratin potatoes, and brussel sprouts with bacon. Delicious!

We absolutely loved this place! Everything we ate was incredible, staff was friendly and prompt, and it is also beautiful inside. We shared 2 appetizers including the crab dip which was to die for! The crab cakes were great and my husband LOVED his Delmonico steak. Our kids were very happy with their meals as well including the fried seafood...

Big Restaurant for a Small Town

This is a very good restaurant with excellent food choices and great service. We have dined there twice this summer and been very pleased on both occasions. The seafood dishes are not spectacular but consistently well prepared. There is a chocolate desert to die for! Our waitress was very attentive and the food was served promptly and piping hot.

I did not think the food was very good. The service was very rushed. As in: the salads came out while we were still eating apps. And the server asked if she could remove the apps to make room for the salads. Um...No...what you could do is let us finish one course before bringing out the next. HOWEVER: The servers...

Great food and open later than most restaurants in Urbanna! Outdoor patio is very nice, and there are multiple rooms inside (bar area, dining area, game room). The food is very good and there are many options, including lighter fare.

Looking for seafood in downtown Urbanna, this looked like just the place. We ate inside, which was a bit more formal, but there is also a patio area. The food was excellent and the service was exceptional. Everyone made us feel so welcome - that was the very best part!

Memorial Day Weekend Girls' Getaway

This place had the best drinks and seafood around, hands down! The outside terrace was wonderfully decorated, and we truly enjoyed a late lunch and early drinks! Try the specialty drinks they offer--they are well worth it! The crab dip and soup, along with the seafood quesadillas come with great recommendations! Christina was the best bartender/waitress around!

We were a group of eight on a Friday evening, with a reservation. The table was ready for us, the staff were friendly and welcoming, the service was very good, and the food was truly outstanding.
Well worth a visit to "The Works" if you are in or near Urbanna.

Quite honestly, the food is excellent and I recommend to those who have yet to visit The Works in Urbanna. However, on our last two visits, my wife and I have been surprised at the lack of responsiveness by the wait staff. On one occasion we made a simple request to get a particular salad replaced with another type, very...

The food was delicious and the portions were so large I could not finish everything. You will want to bring home what is left over. The oysters were plump and lightly battered, delicious calamari and there was a chicken pasta dish with sun dried tomatoes and mushrooms which were even great the next day hated up.

A bit pricey and old fashioned, but good food

Very dated decor, but it is a nice place. And there are not many options in Urbanna. I had oysters for an appetizer, which were good. But it took way too long to get them. Had only eaten 4 by the time our entrees arrived. I had the crab cakes, which are very good, and my wife the fish tacos,...

Super seafood, great atmosphere

Average Rating

Some of the best seafood I've had, hands down. The Cajun fish bites appetizer were just lightly breaded and very moist and flavorful. Our entrees were zesty and juicy fish tacos with coleslaw, and the amazing White Truffle Seafood Pasta, with shrimps, scallops and crab in a thinned cheese sauce. All of the seafood was cooked perfectly, kept juicy and...

Fish of the Day? Which day

Average Rating

If one is offered fish of the day one should expect it to be fresh fish caught within the last few days and not frozen fish? My Ahi Tuna was decidedly odd and I sent it back as it seems to have been overcooked only to receive a similar version light brown on the edges and dark brown insides. I'm...

Stopped here for a late afternoon Irish coffee. The bar is pleasant and the young female bartender was even more so. We watched college basketball , chatted with the bartender. The dining room looked inviting. We plan to go back.

The Works, Urbanna's finest for ambiance, great food, comfort

Average Rating

The Works Bar & Grill resides in the city's former Coca Cola bottling plant turned into a nautical theme consistent with Urbanna's fishing & Oyster harvesting heritage. Comfort, elegance, varying sized rooms and a classic bar make The Works a memorable experience. The Crab Benedict was excellent, beautifully prepared with an abundance of crab and a rich Hollandaise sauce. My...

I am about to give up on The Works. I have eaten there several times and, while the restaurant, itself, is very inviting, the food is woefully inconsistent. My last meal (dinner) arrived cold and soggy. The service was mostly inattentive. Nice people, nice place, forgettable food.

I'm giving this a 5* instead of 4* which it probably was because I was so impressed with what this restaurant did on New Years Eve. Our group of 26 was seated promptly at three tables. Drink orders were quickly taken. Everyone at our table ordered the pre-fixed menu and we were delighted that we did. Salad was crisp and...

Absolutely delightful to the all senses! The food was outstanding, affordable and delicious! The bar is quaint, and the bartender(s) are friendly, fun and outgoing! Angela, the owner, stopped by and encouraged us to take a peek at her inn. I can't wait to return (perfect spot for couples or a girls night away) and stay at the inn and...

The food was just not that good and the service was not much better. I myself work at a local restaurant and I really hate to see a nice place not have good food, especially with all the local seafood we have in our area.

It closed last fall (2013). I guess to get this to post I have to babble on as it will not be accepted unless there are at least 100 characters. Trip Adviser should have an option to allow us to indicate when a restaurant is closed without doing all of this.

Sailing the Chesapeake for 7 weeks Autumn 2013 we were strolling around Urbanna and found Ostra. Without being rude this was an oasis of wonderful food amongst a holiday of okay but not exciting cuisine. Here we found quality, preparation and presentation that was a feast for the eyes and stomach. Please go there.

We stopped in after hearing great things and what a treat! The menu is varied and the presentation and flavor was terrific . We had two of the brunch choices on a Sunday, and both were exceptional. Unusual Decor, Excellent Food

As others have pointed out, the decor and layout is decidedly unusual. Not quite sure what to make of it, but it works. Chic in parts and casual elsewhere. The service was fast and very friendly.
