The Smithfield Inn celebrates the charming, genteel Old South. Steeped in comfort and tradition reminiscent of simpler times, the inn offers guests good food and a relaxed atmosphere. Guests are invited to lunch and dine in two dining rooms or go alfresco in the garden. The English-style William Rand Tavern is a spot to meet friends for drinks and absorb some local culture. The inn offers five...
You will enjoy the elegant and friendly atmosphere of The Dining Room and Tavern at the Smithfield Inn.
The Inn is a wonderful treat! The food is always exquisite, one of my favorites is the crab cake! This establishment has had quite a few different chefs over the years, but Pete is far and away the best! Fantastic wine list as well. The perfect spot for a special night.
My husband and I dine several times a year, and we always have outstanding food and service. The cozy, intimate atmosphere sets the tone for a romantic evening. Worth the drive from anywhere in Hampton Roads.

Feeling formal? Sit in the dining room. I like The Tavern, because you get both menus. My favorite is the salmon over spinach (Hammond Salmon?) from the dining room menu.
Good southern food dishes, emphasizing ham and pork. Well worth the trip. Old building, well maintained and charming. Town of Smithfield is very picturesque.
Recommend reservations, even for the pub area. The Inn has been around a long time, supported by a local family and the preservation guild. The Inn also houses several marvelous "theme" suites above the restaurant.
We have dined there with family and friends several times a month for over 15 years. Obviously we are bias to the place but it...
My wife and I usually come here for a "Date Night". t's fairly quiet and the food and drinks never disappoint! Nice cozy place with a dstictive charm and a great atmosphere. There's also a very nice outdoor dining area that is awesome on nice evenings!
We really enjoyed a great tasting lunch today . The choices were hard, but we both loved a cup of she crab soup to start. I then tried the green tomato BLT,spread with the chefs special pimento cheese. The onion rings tasted like a blooming onion at Outback. My friend enjoyed the soft shell crab lunch special with the sweet potatoe...
The Smithfield Inn is a great place for all occasions. We love having dinner with family and friends there as well as meeting friends for drinks in the Tavern. The Inn also has great accommodations for an overnight visit. Who wouldn't want to stay there since George Washington himself long ago stayed there. Great food, drinks, atmosphere and history! What...
The Smithfield Inn is a jewel in Smithfield, VA. It's a very homey inviting place. If I had the money I would live in the Inn. I used to live in Smithfield and still visit almost monthly and the Inn is a special place. On my last visit I had Mrs Sykes Chicken Pot Pie which was very tasty and...
Excellent service and tasty food. Very unique and charming location and tastefully decorated interior.
We brought our family of 6 for lunch, hoping that they had a child's menu (didn't see any online). Indeed they did, even though it's not printed anywhere.
Our kids' first visit to Smithfield, and we wanted them to experience a nice restaurant--they did! Our server Brittany took great care of us. The childs' menu had selections they liked, and...
Walked in the restaurant and was made to feel special right away. This has got to be the best breakfast I have had in years. Eggs or omelets fixed just the way you want. Ham or bacon perfect. This is not done in advance. You walk in and they prepare the food just for you. This was my second visit...

My wife and I needed some "us time" so we booked an overnight getaway at the Smithfield Inn. We arrived in time for Sunday Brunch in the garden. The food...
Great experience. The she-crab soup here is really creamy and full of chunks of crab meat. I'd never had she-crab soup ever, but Smithfield Inn has made me a fan. The pork belly spring rolls are a great appetizer too and the Carolina mopping sauce goes very well with them. The onion rings may be the best I've ever had anywhere. The onion inside was so fresh and crispy and perfectly breaded. The...

THE place to eat in Smithfield. This place is the perfect combination; great food, great staff, and great atmosphere. It has the small town/tourist town balance down perfectly and they are even kid friendly. I enjoy the lobster mac n cheese, and the croque american sandwich. I love coming here with my kids because I order the fish n chips for them. After my kids eat about half the fish n chips...
Nice Place. The Smithfield Inn is a nice place to dine. I prefer dining outside or in the Rand Tavern bar area. I'm not fond of the remodel job but I don't work for Southern Living so what do I know. Music on Saturday evenings is nice. The food is pretty good (I've never had bad) but I also enjoy eaves dropping on blue hairs to hear them complain about this and that (mostly the crab dip?).
I enjoyed my visit to the Smitfield Inn, this place has great ambiance and very good service. I tried their crab cake w/fried green tomatoes. The crab cake was pretty good with a fair amount of meat but awesome fried green tomatoes. I also tried their she crab soup which I found quite tasty. This is a great place for a nice lunch or dinner if you are in downtown Smithfield. They are also known...
Great Place. The Inn is awesome. I really enjoy the Pub Menu. John the Bartender is an amazing waiter. Go for lunch you'll love it.
