This downtown restaurant serves French brasserie style food in an upscale cafeteria setting. The Odeon was the center of all that was cool in New York City during the high-rolling 1980s. Although its glory days are long gone, it remains a stylish bar and restaurant patronized by the now aging, upscale hipsters who live in and around its Tribeca neighborhood. Unfortunately, the staff remains...

Food is the best!! Definitely not the healthiest, but vegetarian and really good. Service is very slow though so don't plan on dinner here if you just want a quick bite. I love this place!!

"Historical hipness" clings to this "sexy-smart" TriBeCa bistro that's enjoying something of a rebirth with the renaissance of the Financial District; "solid" Franco-American fare, a "vibrant" mood and the addition of breakfast service are reasons why it "seems fresher" than ever to its perpetually "cool crowd."

The Odeon Restaurant Review

This trendsetting hotspot, the first from bistro king Keith McNally, was the pioneer restaurant-bar that made the TriBeCa scene a scene. Dark, smoky and deliberately under-designed with vinyl banquettes, Formica tables and linoleum floors, Odeon still draws the super-cool, late-late-night fashion- and art-world crowd, along with some of the suburban set. Expect a cocktail party-like atmosphere...

A hot spot in the '80s, it's a Tribeca icon today.

In Short
A mecca during the hard-partying, decadent '80s, now the familiar burgundy and black banquettes and lazy ceiling fans create a comfortable, stylish neighborhood vibe. The... Pros + reliable food

Great for a business lunch. Downtown vibe with upscale feel. Smart diners. Attentive staff and team. Over the years of going to the Odeon, I am alswaus taken by how warm and inviting the restaurant feels. Maybe I really like Fench brasseries set in retro NY setting. You won’t find the Odeon in London or SF or Copenhagen. Only in NYC. Happily.

We had a great time at The Odeon. Our server, Adam, was very attentive, answered all our questions and tentatively follow our requests. Food was delicious. I order tuna burger and it was perfect. I highly recommended. We had brunch on a Sunday and never felt rushed to out of our table. I will come back.

The food was just average American food but priced way up because of its location in Tribeca. It was decent, but nothing to write home about. Also my husband ordered his steak rare and it came out medium. We had high expectations for this since it was his birthday and had been wanting to try it for a while, but walked away just like "Meh." Steak, fries, oysters, dumplings, salad.. it's all...

I have been going to the Odeon for many years and have never had a bad meal there. This was the worst service I have ever experienced in all the time I've been there. The Odeon is a great restaurant . We've been going here for many years and it's service and food is always consistent. It's a great place to take out-of-towners for an old-school NYC experience. I hope it's around for many more years to come.

The Odeon has been a fixture in the neighborhood since the 1980s and retains its place as a highly recommended restaurant for me due to the consistency of the food, its quality and presentation, usually expert and unobtrusive service, and seasonal offerings. It can get really noisy inside, but an early summer's dinner outside, watching the world go by, can't be beat.

The food was delicious but overpriced (just coming from Paris). Accommodating, attentive service. Noise level was unpleasantly loud. It was difficult to keep our conversation going.

After walking through a street fair in Tribeca, we stopped in The Odeon Restaurant for a light alfresco nibble. I noticed the special Sriracha bloody Mary ($13) and ordered it, wanting a spicy drink. The first thing that stood out to me about this place was the name. I spied it from across the street as me and Lucy from “On deck with Lucy” were walking in the rain trying to find somewhere to eat.

Keith McNally's first restaurant was the epitome of downtown cool in the 80s, and guess what? It's still pretty damn cool, in an old-school, effortless way. The food is wonderful too.

Long before Balthazar, and long before Minetta, Odeon defined the quality of Keith McNally cool. Bright, classy, urbane, and reliably good at all hours of the day and night, what began as a celebrity hangout has become a New York classic.

The Eden Brook Trout was served skin on and folded closed on the quinoa, not a presentation we had seen before and initially gave the appearance of a much smaller portion than it was. However the burst of flavor in this dish was more than the sum of it's visible parts.

The meal was really good – bistro food in a fun atmosphere and also celeb sightings – I saw Helena Christiansen eat at a table near the door while I was at the bar!

My fellow jurors and I were craving a good burger and frites, and this was the number one choice. While the burgers and frites were good, I ended up ordering the croque monsieur. It had a...

Overpriced and Absent Service

I just moved to Tribeca and have tried to understand what is up with this joint for a few times now. It never delivered to my expectations - food portions are miniscule, prices ridiculously high and a service that is absent in every possible way. After my third visit I actually felt hungry after having dinner there (???)
Tired looking decor, tired looking food and a very high tab await you here!

- Expensive, below average food, tired crowd

Omit the Odeon--no love for food or flavor

The Odeon was a huge disappointment. My wife and I could not understand why people seem to like the place so much. The service was decent, but the most important component, the food, was lacking in every way. There was no color to our plates--everything was a pale yellow or greenish-gray My wife paid $14 for a soggy salad that would barely suffice as a first course. My eggs benedict were subpar in every way--the English muffin was burnt, the bearnaise sauce without any flavor and the potatoes which accompanied my dish were gooey, charred and again, flavorless. None of the ingredients...

The problem with this restaurant is that the staff has their jobs split up so much that if one thing goes wrong it will only get worse. The managers are full of apologizes but are unable to correct the situation. We arrived and sat at our table, 18 minutes later a waiter tells us he will be right with us. 10 minutes after that another waitress comes over to take our order, both drinks and food at the same time. ( its crowded and she is starting the feeling we should move along). She returns 5 minutes later to tell my guest that they have run out of the special she had ordered and would...

Odeon is nothing special. I don't understand why this place is always over crowded with people are starving. Plus I have to wait for at least 30 min. whenever I go there. Their food is nothing special. But it is a sort of safe zone to provide an average food. But don't expect too much. I prefer Baltazar or Pastis rather than Odeon.

A hot spot in the '80s, it's a Tribeca icon today. – In ShortA mecca during the hard-partying, decadent '80s, now the familiar burgundy and black banquettes and lazy ceiling fans create a comfortable, stylish neighborhood vibe. The brasserie-style menu remains relatively unchanged, featuring classic bistro choices like frisee salad with bacon, blue cheese and a poached egg, steak tartare, moules and steak frites, and various burgers and sandwiches. A brunch features French toast, eggs Benedict and oatmeal with brown sugar and fruit.

My experience couldn't be more different from the previous review! Everyone from the hostess to the bartender was extremely nice. The waitstaff was very attentive. Try the spinach salad with goat cheese and pine nuts - well seasoned and the spinach was fresh. I also had a delicious fig tart which was absolutely delicious. In fact, given the large volume of people who walk in and out, I didn't think that either service or food was compromised at all. Highly recommended.

What happened? – What happened to The Odeon? Lately, the odds of getting good service is 50/50. We were there about a month ago and the guy was on top of everything. But last week, another guy, forgot we were there. Still...the food is consistently good. The calamari is excellent, as is the lamb.

To start off your meal, the bread basket filled with yummy cranberry scones, pumpkin bread and corn bread that is worth the trip alone even if you don't order another thing. Wash it down with their rich coffee and order the Eggs Benny- its to die for. Not overly buttery or lemony and they don't over-cook the eggs like some inconsiderate chefs like to maliciously do. The potatoes are seasoned to perfection and shaped into a wedge that is crispy on the outside and moist on the inside. If it's a nice day sit outside- there is alot of foot traffic in front but not alot of cars on the weekend,...

This restaurant was recommended to us ""out of towners"" by some local friends, and we weren't disappointed. Sure, the wait was a bit long for a table, but the service was good and the food was pretty good too. I had the grilled tuna, served medium rare, and it was cooked just right. The vinegarette-marinated onions and garlic it was served with provided an unusual (but very good) change of pace. The calimari was great, too. Dessert portions were a bit skimpy though. We had the flourless chocolate cake with pistacio ice cream - the cake looked about the size of the bottom half of a cupcake,...

I don't know what haricot vert might be, but I agree with the last poster. Anything but the spinach. My date and I suspected uneaten portions are secretly being recycled from plate to plate, which is commendable from an environmental point of view but makes for a perilous dining experience.

Too bad, because the Roquefort Burger is delicious. Next time, though, I'm sticking with the fries.

This is the bistro that put TriBeCa on the map back in the `80s. Drawing a crowd that lives mostly in black, Odeon manages to create an atmosphere that welcomes all (even those in primary colors). The dining room serves excellent NY bistro-fare like burgers, black bean soup, crispy fries, and creme brulee. The stylish bar prepares generous drinks and fosters unobstrusive mingling.
