For many locals in the Tidewater area, Surf Rider is a name that has long been synonymous with terrific home-style cooking. In fact, Surf Rider first opened in May 1980 when Liz Massey and her son, Stanley, had an idea about serving up real home-style cooking. Together they would do it all- from cooking to serving to bussing and cleaning up. Mother and son built a restaurant that soon became a...
Good at what they do! Southern seafood as it has always been.
A group from work went and Chris was the best!! The food was great! Never went without anything. Chris was the friendliest without bugging us thank you!
Used to be better. Broiled platter had small sized shrimp and scallops. Staff won't honor request to fry the fish on the platter. Ridiculous!! Take it or leave it attitude. Simple request for a $20 plate of food. Had good experiences before this.
Special thanks to HACK VANISH, a professional hacker I’ve been hiring for the past 2 years because, I find him to be an outstanding hacker who has aided me in various hacking related issues, ranging from fixing my poor FICO credit score of about 437 TransUnion, 462 Equifax to 802 plus excellent score, tracking my cheating husband’s phone and currently has helped me recover my lost crypto funds...
I stopped by for a late lunch this week after a client visit. I can now see why Bluewater receives all these great reviews. I'm sure this a the place to eat when there is nice weather and you can...
Plunked down among Hampton's marinas and yacht brokers creates an ambience that heightens the appetite for things fish. Chef is the best fryer in town. Any seafood is enhanced. Can also get it broiled. Crab Cakes are best in town. Jumbo Shrimp amazing. Lots on the menu. If they have their signature she-crab soup, you must try. Big menu. Great...
This is a real seafood restuarant in the area. The food is excellent. I would definitely recommend the crab dip. It really has crab and a lot of it. You won't be disappointed!
The foods good it just has rules that are inconvenient for a consumer-you CANNOT place order over phone and you CANNOT go the restaurant, place an oder for carry out after 5 p.m.-thats a bit ridiculous. I cant say I completely understand that.
Was looking forward to great seafood on the waterfront. The waterfront setting is lovely...and would be hard to find without GPS! The food just was not yummy. Had the broiled platter that was overcooked and just not flavorful. My wife had a sirloin steak that was much better than the seafood. Nice cut of meat, well-prepared. Her loaded baked potato...
This restaurant will require GPS to find, as it's off the beaten path. Situated right on the water, it's known for fresh seafood. We had a good dinner. Very enjoyable. Attentive staff. The booths were a bit uncomfortable. Prices quite reasonable.
Looking for well prepared fresh seafood ...... you'll find it at Surf Rider. Have eaten here a number of times and never disappointed. On my last visit I had the freshly prepared (not frozen) clam strips. They were great. Will be going back.
I was in the mood for some seafood one night and happen to come across this place on Yelp and it definitely did not let me down. Was it the best sea food I've ever had? No, but it was still very...
Overpriced not so fresh seafood!!! Only thing good was the view of the water!! I guess if you don't no anything better it's good!! Not me scallops had a not so fresh flavor!!!! Harpoon Larry's is...
Not sure what the hype is about. Sure, it's a wonderful location, but been here about 4-5 times over the years, and I'm disappointed every time. Bland, fried, overcooked. There are much better seafood places in the area.
So I was staying in Hampton on a business trip and a colleague and I went to Surf Rider. Neither of us were very hungry, so we sat at the bar for dinner. Rob was the bartender and he was great. I just wanted a crab cake and one piece of corn on the cob and he was very accommodating....
We live in williamsburg but go there frequently.
I enjoy all the dishes I have ordered but prefer the yellow fin tuna sandwich.
The service is great and so is the view.
The only thing I would like corrected is for my medium grilled tuna to have some pink in the center
Even though it is often overcooked (for me),...
Went to Surf Rider on Sunday, October 10. Arrived around 6:45 p.m., was sat in the back ( my favorite) section & had a blonde haired server ( forgot her name...Lindsey??) she was attentive & did a great job. I ordered a burger and my date ordered the fried seafood platter. The food was hot and tasted great! Will go...
When I arrived I was a bit disappointed by the seating and "feng shui" it seemed very cafeteria-ish to me i was expecting a little more class. if you are lucky enough to sit near a window you'll...
Came here on a Friday night with some friends and it was super packed. Appetizers: Had the crab dip and calamari. The calamari was fresh and crisp, the marinara dipping sauce was also pretty...
Not sure why this place has such a high rating. It's very much the tourist trap. You aren't paying for the food, because it's mediocre at best. You are paying for the clean dining room and good view of the marina. The Fried Flounder and Crab Cake sandwich would have been DECENT if they didn't put it on stale …
Meh. Maybe the locals really love this but asan out of towner I wasn't that impressed. Nice setting, okay food with okay service. We got fried haddock which was a very generous portion but still didn't justify the 20$ price tag. Crab legs were good too.
While recently in Hampton we met an employee of the university whom suggested we try the Surf Rider. It was very good. The She-crab soup was good, within buttery, sherry finish. There were nine of us and we tried lots of things from calamari (yummy) to the shrimp po'boy, salmon, scallops (a tad bit tough) to …
We have had some great meals here. It's close to our house and the seafood is consistently good. We ate here tonight and found the service to be lacking. The glasses of wine were overpriced and the table and bar stools in the bar were dirty and sticky. I know it was a busy Friday night, but for the prices this place charges for dinner, it would be nice to see the service improved.
When I was in Hampton, a local described this place as "upscale," which I'm not quite sure I get, especially after seeing pictures of fried clam strips on yelp. It's pretty casual though the view of the marina is gorgeous on a sunny day.I got a crab cake which was good, but not terrific, and most of the seafood our …
My wife and I mainly frequent the Hampton and little creek locations. Their food has always been fresh and delicious. Nothing fancy just good seafood at moderate prices. Their crab cakes are some of the best around the area with hardly any filler. If you want good seafood without being hit with overpriced selections you won't be disappointed. Service is like anywhere else. It's a hard job for...
Over priced, no flavor, poor service. Don't waist your time or money.
Very nice atmosphere and the employees are very friendly. The views of the yachts are awesome and the food is excellent. I recommend this restaurant to others
I too am a seafood lover, also from New England, and it is so hard to find a good seafood restaurant. Look no more! The Surf Rider Restaur...
I??m a seafood lover originally from New England and the seafood here is WONDERFUL! Every chance my husband and I can get out without the kids for a late lunch, this is the place. The atmosphere is quiet and quant with a beautiful water view of downtown Hampton. The portions are huge (enough for two). I suggest you try the she-crab soup, the broiled seafood platter and the broccoli with...

I have eaten lunch several times. Always prompt courteous service. Food is excellent and fresh. Highly recommend to all my friends. Many do not even know about it due to it's out of the way location. Great view of the marina-- boats, wa...

The steak and seafood at Surf Rider encompasses a variety of steamed, broiled and grilled specialties. Hand-breaded seafood, homemade soups and made to order crab cakes characterize the home style cooking they serve.
