Ugh, I despise this place. Everytime I walk by, I try not to gag. The food is bad, bad, bad! And shame on me b/c I tried to give this place a second chance and it was just as horrible the second time around, if not more. One star for mediocre staff
My family has been going here weekly since the mall opened. The food is always good. The staff is excellent (I consider them better than family). They're wheelchair accessible. And Jesse, the magician is wonderful with adults and kids. By far this is the place I go, "where everybody knows my name."
i really enjoy their soups and salads the waiters and waitresses are very friendly and i think the prices are just right
Stop in for a quick bite or sink into a comfortable booth for a full meal. Either way you've hit the jackpot when it comes to value. Without a doubt, the specialty of the house is burgers, made to order from fresh ground beef. For waistline watchers, a handful of tasty guilt-free options like salads and black bean roll-ups are surprisingly satisfying. Check the daily specials for additional...
Would have loved to have tried them however they are CLOSED!!!!!!!!!! Yet the website and everything makes no mention of that.....
Dinner and a movie with my love
Hey Denise guess what I'm having along with my favorite 3rd street salad!! #LYMI
Cozy environment, my boyfriend and I love the nachos...we split them every time we go. We've never eating anything there we didn't like. Service could be better, but we're customers for life
Pre gaming before Wilco
It looks good but the meatball wasn't l.
Meal before the Admirals game.
Lunch - Black bean burger with sautéed onions and a green salad.
I've been to this location a few times before and never enjoyed it. The meal here today was more out of convenience than anything, and my companion enjoys this restaurant, so I figured I'd try...
Lunch time before heading to the airport.
Late lunch with my girl! ☺
Chipotle black bean burger with baby green salad and a Long Island
Finally sprung from the apple store.
Grubbin' with Kenny????
Theater is coming afterwards
First time! Bomb ass cookies!
Well...where can we start...save your money. Service was not good. Need more staff. Food not much better
Not in the food court but in the center atrium of MacArthur Center, they have the coffees you want and a decent amount of seating nearby to sit and enjoy.
They made my drink perfect and it was HOT. I like that. Food choices were well stocked and were good. Nice central location in the mall.
Not bad. We tried them out on a Saturday afternoon while out running errands and shopping. We'll probably stop back by again to try out the dinner menu.
The food was very good. That's the only positive. The restaurant was messy. They need to clean. The television was set to a channel with material that was grossly inappropriate for children (adult, male-oriented fare). Business was slow, and about a dozen employees were using the adjacent tables as a …
I love the warm bread and fresh salads here. One of our favorites is the Laredo Steak, so tender it melts in your mouth. The third Street Chicken Salad is so good, portions are huge, you can get a half portion and still be full. Save room for cookies if you dare.
Went before and admirals game. We had almost two hours before the game and we did mention anything about it to our waitress. We felt like we were being rushed the entire time we were there. Now on to my food. I had the bodacious bacon cheeseburger, first of all after two bites the entire thing fell apart …
Max and Erma's was a great choice when visiting the downtown Norfolk area. It was within the mall which made it very nice to do a little shopping after. There was no wait to sit down. The service was out of this world, even though it was very busy. The food was nothing fancy, but it was great. There are...
Table for 3 at 1:00 Seated Promptly. A few minute wait for waitperson to take order.
Warm Pretzels with Cheese Sauce-Delicious.
One person ordered 1/2 sandwich with soup
Second person ordered pork barbecue with fries
Third person ordered Chicken Sandwich with Pesto Basil Sauce, etc. Asked for Sauce on side.
Soup came. In fact, she brought soup for all three...
The best part of any meal for me is dessert - and to have warm chocolate chip cookies on a menu is really wonderful. Meal was fine but to top it off with cookies was a great finish. Waitress was friendly and service was quick. A better option than the food court.
This Starbucks is a great addition to the first floor of MacArthur Center Mall. Open since May if offers almost a full service Starbucks experience. I say close because at least one thing that is NOT offered is "for here cups" I can get over that and hold my paper cup brew as I waltz around beautiful …
The staff here is super friendly! I haven't met one grumpy person there. This is the new Starbucks in the mall which opened up at the end of May. It's placed near the elevators and fountains on the first floor. They get really busy in the morning around 8:00AM because it's the only other Starbucks in downtown. Either wait for that rush to die down or get there right at 7:30!
We went here before a movie for drinks and appetizers. Beer was cold, and cheese fries were yummy, and big portion. It is a great place to relax and enjoy happy hour!
We have eaten here a few times over the years, and have never left with a burning desire to return. Wait staff is inconsistent (sometimes attentive, other times only adequate). Food is usually good, but nothing to rave about.
I ate lunch at Max and Erma's on a Sunday morning. The restaurant was empty so service was fast. We ordered off of the lunch menu. I had the Third St. Salad with a few modifications. It came to me as ordered. My friend had the tortilla soup and Greek Goddess salad. We both really liked our food. The lunc...
Semi fast Food resturant was average. I think of Ruby Tuesdays. Located at the VB City center and has plenty of parking.
free cookie Wednesday
Bryan the waiter reached over my food to give me my drink every time. nasty! -.-
Be prepared to wait at dinner time. Service can be slow, so leave plenty of time before the movie starts! Food is straight-forward and not particularly inventive, but you get decent portions and tasty food for the money. Burgers are good.
I at the BEST club sandwich here that I have ever ate in my life. We just happened to stop here on a Wednesday and on Wednesdays you get 2 free cookies with any order and the cookies were delicious as well. I'd love to go here again. We also had good service and when we were there it wasn't...
Great for the traveler who needs a descent meal at a great price. Not really a part of the local charm but it is very good for the weary traveler looking for a good hot meal.
Decent food, slow service though.
i went to max and ermas with my life partner last thursday. we went around 7 and they wernt too busy. when we walked in two young men (rocky and jake if i remember correctly) were greeting us and already had a table ready. they casually talked to us and turned out to be pretty funny and not corny at...
Comfortable with good food. This is a good place for a meal while shopping. The food is not memorable, but it is good. The service is very good. Ambiance, for a restaurant in a mall, is pretty good. The food and service are between a fast-food place and a decent sit-down place, closer to the sit-down place. Hard to explain, but it is well worth a visit, if you're shopping.
The restaurant itself is nice; it's big, and if you're seated near the outside entrance, has a good view. The atmosphere and menu selection reminded me of Cheddar's. Service was on the slow side though, and our food was barely warm when it arrived. I'd give this place another try, but overall it's nothing special for the price.
Disappointed with the service. I felt like an unwanted guest by the server, the restaurant was not busy. Burger was all bun and little meat. Fries tasted like they were fried with fish, dark, greasy and unappetizing.
I was hesitant about this dining experience because the hostess seemed very overloaded with extra work and there didn't seem to be enough staff. We ate on a Tuesday for lunch, and were pleasantly suprised that kids eat free on Tuesdays. The menu was ok, but the combo meals do not have a lot of options to choose from. I...
Got the Cheeseburger combo which is a good value. The fries weren't very fresh but the service was excellent. My wife got the fried chicken salad which she was very happy with. They are always a solid choice for a good meal if your at the mall.
My husband & I were at the Mall in Norfolk & talking about how we should try Max & Erma's & a nice lady getting off the escalator said... ohhhhhh, Max & Erma's! Can we come with you... LOL She then asked if we'd ever been there before, (no) then she told us alll about the place, how awesome it...
We love Max and Erma's! We've eaten in their main dining room, outside seating area and the bar. We love all of them; but if you are tired and just want to relax and enjoy your food then by all means go into the bar. The barmaid/waitserver is so pleasant. It's an intimate atmosphere where you can feel some privacy,...
For $8.99 you can get a hamburger, appetizer and warm cookie. I couldn't beat that. I walked to the MacArthur Mall, which is actually pretty nice from my hotel the Marriott. It's about three blocks and a straight walk. The service was a bit slow. Other large parties were dining that night. I wasn't overly thrilled with the meal but...
Not much to say. Wasn't amazing, wasn't bad. Pretty good food, decent prices, convenient location. Will be back.
I was in a hurry to get to my conference. They had a 1/2 sandwich with a choice of side (I took a Caesars). I was able to order this at the hostess booth. They got me seated, I paid upfront. I got my food in about 7 minutes ate and was gone. The Club sandwich was very good, the...
You get great food and a sizable portion. The atmosphere is very family friendly and the wait staff is attentive without being too hovering. And make sure to order your cookies when you get your dinner so they are hot and ready to go!
I don't usually recommend chains but this one is located in a busy mall and can provide some comfort and relief as well as good food. I love the menu with many elements of comfort food. The staff is typically very efficient and sometimes fun. The cost is modest. It is not an experience you would necessarily seek out unless...
My wife and I ate here while visiting the Norfolk area. Max & Erma's is your typical American-food chain restaurant. We both thoroughly enjoyed our food and the prices were what you would expect to pay at a similar level chain restaurant (similar to Ruby Tuesdays, Applebee’s, etc.). Nothing spectacular, but we enjoyed ourselves. The food was good, the prices...
My family dined here recently. Everything was just so-so. Service, food, price. Nothing outstanding.
This is always the top choice for our kids when asked where they want to eat. It has one of the best kids' menus around with more variety than usual and healthy sides. The special drinks, especially the one with gummy worms, is the main attraction for our kids. The chocolate chip cookies are the big attraction for my husband...
What a deal! Good food, good prices. I love their burger combo meal - it's tasty and even comes with a cup of soup (spicy tortilla!) and a fresh baked cookie! Even if I didn't come here for a full…
The service here was good, especially for having only one person working this little stand in the middle of the food court. However, I was extremely shocked by the sticker price on my drink! I had ordered a small frappacino with soy milk and I was told it was going to be an additional $0.70 for soy …
"It's a burger and fries place with some sandwiches. Oh and they have this really good Tortilla Soup. It's kinda like an Applebee's" That was the lead in I got from a good friend of mine before we…
it was verry yummin i enjoyed being there
Nicholas was our waiter and the food was really good, but the service was ther best... We ordered Pretzel Sticks and we thought the were too salty and were just going to suck it up, but they insisted…
I have always found the food court in MacArthur Center to be underwhelming, which is disappointing considering its proximity to my office. When venturing to the mall for lunch there are three places I frequent. I have already reviewed two, those being Nor

this place is disguised as an applebee-type restaurant but the food is actually really good. I highly recommend the chicken tortilla soup! I thought it would be your average chain restaurant but it really isn't. Out of all the restaurants in Norfolk, this is one place I keep going back to. The service isn't always stellar, not because the staff...
Seattle-based coffee chain lures caffeine addicts with upscale roasts, caramel frappuccinos, shaken iced teas and an extra shot of trendiness. – In ShortFor many, getting their daily jolt of java has become a daily morning ritual, and the cardboard cup with its infamous green label is the close companion of every coffee aficionado. Busy baristas work seamlessly behind the bar, juggling orders for their strongly-brewed drips and signature hot and cool beverages. While providing a wide selection of coffee specialties, pastries and various coffee related goods, patrons are invited to settle...
It's a chain.... You know what you're going to get.
Not one of my favorite but a very good retuarant for the most part. Nice place to dine. Would go again w/ friends
Wide selection and the opportunity to have fresh baked cookies delivered to your table for dessert. I recommend the Salmon with mashed potatoes and veggies.
We alwayts eat here when shopping at Mac Aurthur Center Mall. Great sandwiches and hot pretzels in a cozy sit-down atmosphere.
MAx and Ermas is my husband's and I favorite place to eat. All the food is wonderful and very comforting, nothing is too extreme and it is all familiar. Everything on the menu is great and you dont even have to look at prices because ever...
I had just about given up on having lunch at at the mall, when I came across Max and Erma's. I gave the menu a look and was very intrigued.First, the restaurant is very affordable for a sit-down place in the mall. Lunch for two was less tha...
This Marriott Hotel is located in Waterside, Norfolk. In summer, certain rooms have a great view of the ocean. Therefore, the price you pay will also go up with the summer season. The first time I stayed there, I was not informed that the parking was not free. You would think after paying a couple hundred dollars for a night, they would at least let you park there for free. But that is not the...
This restaurant offers the best tortilla soup in Hampton Roads. It has the right blend of seasoning although it is quite expensive at 4 bucks a bowl. Service is usually quick, food is delicious, but the best part of my visit to max and ermas is the dessert. You have a few items to choose from, but I highly recommend the choclate chip cookies (served straight from the oven) and the chocolate cake (a pound of thick chocolate cake drizzled with chocolate sauce). One of the best restaurants in the area.
Max and Erma's offers a nice romantic atmosphere and a great staff that will do their best to make sure that your needs are met. We've had parties as few as the two of us and as many as twelve and they have gladly accomodated us every time. Their food is great and is fairly priced.
Pros
+ great food, wonderful service, great price
Cons
- crowded on holidays, located in mall

Max & Erma's is quickly becoming yet another chain to take the East Coast by storm and for good reason. With a huge and varied menu, awesome kids specials and growing locations, this laid-back chain is a great quick-fix when you are in a bind on what to eat and how much time you have to grub down. Soups and salads are always a good way to go for lunch but dinner is anyone's game with options...
