I shoot around 100-110 (No mullies) and on this course I was nearing the 120s. A lot of elevation changes, but it seemed like i was always hitting to an elevated green. Very easy to lose balls...

So after speaking to Peter the day before we got to play we had worked things out and were able to play. We show up on time and head to the clubhouse. Very nice and clean. This place was very nice...

If you like blind shots, overpriced greens fees and constant above-avg wind, then this is your place. If you have to choose, play The Lakes course....

I've played this course plenty of times, and frankly each time I'm a little disappointed or annoyed by something other than the course itself, which is...

Great course and very challenging

We like playing there in the Summer because there's always a wind to keep you cool playing course. The design and course layout on either the Lakes or the Plains is excellent and challenging. Service and food in the club house is very good.

Tough course

The Highland Course is a well maintained tough course in a nice scenery with beautiful nature reserves. In my opinion this course isn't fun for players with a high handicap, especially when the fairways are soaked after heavy rainfall and the balls don't roll. But when losing balls don't matter, it's totally worth to play. Just one bad thing: the...

Both 18's of this golf course are excellent experiences. The course is in outstanding condition. Very interesting layout with some blind shots. It is a little pricey.

Beautiful golf course...but pricey with "stuffy/snooty" people working there

This may be a beautiful golf course but the the snooty employees dont make it worth the money.
Go to the school thats onsite...the Matt Swanson school is awesome. Just pick somewhere else to play.

The Swanson Golf School has great lessons for every skill level. They even have kid classes on Saturday afternoons! Class prices are reasonable and golf pro's are outstanding. Facilities are better than what you would expect for a public course. Grille has great food and nice outdoor seating! Pro shop has good selection of men's and women's golf accessories!

Fun, but challenging

I have played this course 3 times. This most recent trip, we finally played the Lakes course. This course makes you believe that it is open for grip-it-and-rip-it play, but it can make you pay for mistakes. The course is well maintained, the staff is pretty friendly, and the food is pretty good. The price for the course is fair...about...

I only come here because of the golf school. The Matt Swanson school of Golf is very nice; instructors are professional and willing to take time out to explain.
The staff at the golf house is not so warm and welcoming. Once you get past the snobs working the counter when you pay your high prices to play....then the rest...

Wife and I played the Lakes Course on July 3, 2008. Overall, this is a pretty nice course, with well kept fairways, tee boxes and greens. Nice views of South Houston from higher tee elevations. The club house, pro shop and amenties are above average. However,...

I don't play golf but they have the best hamburgers

It's built on top of a landfill. I don't play golf so I can't comment on the quality of the courses but it has two 18 hole courses.
But the best thing about the place is the hamburgers. They are not to be missed.

Best Public Course in H-Town

I never knew there were hills (other than overpasses) in Houston. When you drive into Wildcat's entrance for the first time, I guarantee you will be shocked at the sloping fairways, elevated tees and greens, etc. The Highlands course (the Lakes being the other) is a DEFINITE must-play. Not really that difficult, but it looks and plays like a course up North because of the elevation changes. Greens in excellent condition, the Vista Grille's food is top-notch. Play during the week though, weekends tend to get crowded.

Pros

+ HILLS!, Friendly Staff, Beautiful Facilities

Cons
