Fine dining any day

After visiting Sam & Harry's for a birthday celebration, everyone in our party was impressed with the quality and service we received. We had a quiet booth, despite a large private party in and diners in another dining area. The recommendations of our server were excellent, everything was cooked to perfection and the birthday chocolate dome was outstanding! I highly recommend this restaurant...

I hit Sam and Harry's last Saturday after an absence of about 8 years. Still great steaks and wonderful sides (don't miss the russet and sweet potato au gratin dish). Cigars inside are gone, but apparently they are OK in the patio area. The layout inside has changed since I was last there, but the ambience was fine, service was good and owner Larry Work is on the job and came by for a visit....

Food is quite good, but the bar and its drinks are better still.

The rookie server on valentine's day was not the best idea for the restaurant or the lack of host(es) and zero bar crowd. The rib eye way excellent and my wife loved the filet with bernaise. Wine selection was not enthralling, but suitable.

a daamned fine meal best steak house in DC

Maybe DC has just been host to an excess of steak restaurants, but some of them seem to be at their last gasp. Sam and Harry's is one of them. The multi-dining-room location has closed off many of the dining areas, and the staff is now made up more of foreign nationals than old-line professionals. The steaks are still good, but too many other restaurants offer the same thing.

One of the best Steakhouses in DC. Been going for years, the staff has gotten a little snooty in the last year which is disappointing because otherwise this is the best of the best.

Like I said you have to pay to valet your car. Bgo across the street its free and they have much better steaks

Not the best in town, but meritorious.

Consistently excellent food, professional service make this an easy choice for a business lunch where you want to make sure your guest won't have anything to complain about.

So-so steak and the rest isn't worth the trip.

Excellent steaks, although the main room we sat in lacked a little bit of ambience, possibly due to the construction site outside. Some of the smaller booths seem nicer. Good service, huge portions.

Old school steakhouse famous for its fried onions. If you're looking for a good steak, this is one of the best.

Wonderful steaks and the Martini's are fabulous.

Great for parties....underutilized for dinners....

Great steak, good wine list

Located near a few of the chain steak places. A good alternative for something more original.

I went to Sam and Harry's for Fall 2009 Restaurant Week - and not only did I get a great deal, but the food was fabulous and the waiters were very accommodating to specific dietary needs (which is always appreciated!).

This isn't just a steakhouse - check out the other dishes too - I sampled the salmon, which was also delicious.

Quality of life at the Reagan Airport was noticeably higher before Sam & Harry moved in and replaced a much better restaurant. They tried to create something between a Steakhouse and a Fast Food joint, and it did not work. Service is lousy, so are the steaks.

I spend a weekend in DC with my wife, not beign familiar with the area we were able to find this steak house on citysearch. After reading the reviews we decided to try it and we were absolutely impressed with the food. I would highly recommend it!!! One of the best steaks I've had !!!

What a disappointment. When we got there on Friday evening at 8:00pm and there were only 5 other parties dining I smelled trouble. Plus there was nobody drinking at the bar. Plain unimaginative menu. Even the sides were uninteresting. It appeared our server was new at the game but bless her heart she tried to please. They give you the impression that they are serving Allen Bros. meat but the...

I went here for an expensive dinner with my mother while she was in town. I made a reservation, and when we got there, the place was totally empty....

The dry-aged bone-in strip was better than lobel's on first visit but second (and last!)visit was terrible. We were also rushed through the meal because they wanted to close early. Finally, I took the time to fill out their "comments" card and never got a response!

Sam and Harry's is consistently good- even their sides. No more expensive than any other steakhouses in the area.. but if you are easily bothered by noise while you eat, you may want to ask for a booth.

Best Steak in Town!

Others might disagree but I feel Sam and Harry's is the best steak in town. Their servers are polite, sincere, and truly helpful (unlike the Palm). Their menu is small some might say limited, but every thing is top notch, cooked and served to perfection (unlike Morton's). The decor and atmosphere is beautiful, inviting, fine dining while still being family friendly (unlike Smith and...

The Place To Go In Washington!

This place was so great as my big city restaurant to go in Washington, DC. The restaurant was beautiful (except for the outside where they are doing construction) and the servers were so accommodating. I had some wonderful fresh-shucked oysters, a wonderful cheese plate and sensational crabcakes! I will definitely be recommending this to all!

Incredible!

My favorite steakhouse for quality meat, wine, and service.

This cost is on an annual basis. Sam & Harry's service and food is so great we come back year after year.

Always excellent

Outstanding service and great food! Private dining available.

Love taking clients

My favorite place...so manly. Wish they still did lunch.

Excellent food

Sam & Harry's is the ultimate D.C. steakhouse. This is where deals are cut and progress is celebrated.

Have your steak and eat it, too at this downtown powerbrokers' haven.

Best Steak and Mashed Potatoe on the planet!

Great place for steaks and seafood. Excellent service.

Great place! Excellent wine list.

i enjoy sam and harrys. great bar to enjoy drinks before dinner and the meat is always up to par.

typical steakhouse

We come here everytime we are in town. Sam & Harry's - even under construction! - never fails to live up to our expectations.

Excellent restaurant.. love the food

Food is generally good, but service is sometimes lacking. The last two times I have visited, there was always something off -- steak or sides were cold, and the waitstaff (it was not busy) appeared to be confused.

Steaks almost as big as their chocolate cake and even more succulent.

Great steak, great restaurant, just a great place to eat.

Generally good service, excellent wine list, good food, but somewhat overpriced

Great location for politico lunch.

The atmosphere is always very DC. The food and service are best in town without the high price tag for those who like to enjoy themselves without breaking the bank.

one of the 5 best steak restaurants in the country....(if Peter Luger were in Washington, DC would be the steak capital of the world)

Good steakhouse without all the chain feel to it. I miss the Tyson's location.

Watch for the wine specials and take your special someone. Plush booths add to overall ambiance.

Serious steak lover's paradise. Nothing too exotic-just good old fashion great cuts of meat.

Everything about the experience was perfect!

Play the odds only 1 out of 4 meals comes out wrong.

The usual dark, masculine steak house, and the usual well-cooked steak.

Kinda dark

Not recommended

Went to Sam and Harry's for dinner for the first time on January 16,2008 Had the "medalions" which came in a relish which was so hot (and I like hot food) that it completely masked the taste of the meat. Not good, Pea soup was just OK. Desert (fruit over a cake) was disappointing and tasted like it had been prepared the previous day as the cake was very dry and the whip cream tasted old. The...

Service was excellent. Fawn was helpful and patient as I changed my horseradish twice. Most waitresses would have been frustrated with my indecision, but Fawn smiled and went with the flow. We will return and request her.

We had excellent food and excellent service from Catherine. Very attentive and informative.

I like your organic approach. Nicole was a wonderful waitress. Gazpacho was smooth and creamy at the same time-- loved the bite to it. Sorbet raspberry was like eating a frozen raspberry-- great experience. I will be back.

The food and service were excellent. We visited Sam & Harry's during restaurant week, and I must say it was my most memorable restaurant week meal ever. All of the options were excellent. While we had a there course meal, everone's favorite was the steak medallions.

Last year, I ate through more than 20 Washington-area restaurants in search of The Perfect Steakhouse. I spent a lot of money and a lot of time and felt as if I had left no filet mignon or sirloin unsliced in my quest for the best. It turned out there wasn't a single place that excels in all that I want from such a restaurant -- great meat, great service, great wine, great sides -- though some...

Sam and Harry's Exceeded My Expectations

When searching for a place to dine in DC, I have to say it is impossible to ignore Sam and Harry's long reputation. Having heard the "hype" from several friends, I thought I would give it a try. If it's good enough for countless celebrities and politicians, I figured it is probably good enough for me. Being a single diner, I often find my needs are ignored when I visit restaurants. I had been craving a good steak for a long time, after searching for a place to eat and walking around we happened by Sam and Harrys and I remembered reading how local DC people and celebs loved it. We have tried several “big name” steak houses in Washington D. C. and suburbs, but Sam & Harry's has got to be the very best. The steaks are delicious and cooked perfectly every time. The side items, like the garlic mashed potatoes, are also superb. Service is excellent as well.

Went with a group of friends there Saturday night. The appetizers were good...The steaks, ont he otherhand, were sublime. I had the special-- a bone- in filet mignon- cooked medium rare, and it was one of the best steaks I've had...The service was friendly, and if you're willing to pay the price for it, it's definitely worth it.

Sam & HArry's has great steaks. A wonderful dininig experience, great service and a fabulous wine list.

I was ripped off. I had two glasses of wine and was charged $128.49. Thats very expensive wine.

The manage told me she would take care of it and credit me but never did. That was Nov 5, 2002.

My wife and I ate there on New Year's Eve. It is as good as any steakhouse we have visited. We had the NY strip steak. Great service, food and atmosphere. We are from California. When we get back to DC again, we will make it a point to eat there.

exceptionally accomadating; great service and great food. My favorite steakhouse in the country.

Cigar-friendly Sam and Harry's is understated, genteel, and packed at lunch and dinner.
