Virginia Tea Society visits Rowena's

I am the Director of The Virginia Tea Society. We held our September meeting along with a fabulous tea at Rowena's and it was beyond belief. I had spoken with Andrea, the pastry chef several times arranging the tea and she made sure Rowena's lived up to it's name. There was comforting music playing in the background, beautifully set tables with a vase of fresh flowers on each and a wonderful atmosphere. It was the best tea, in this area, that I have had the opportunity of attending. We were offered bottomless pots of loose teas: Earl Grey, Liz's Blend, Apricot and Raspberry along with three decaf's: English Breakfast, Green and Orange Spice along with milk or lemon slices and sugar cubes in a swan shaped container with tongs. We were also offered goblets of water with lemon and glasses of sparkling cider. There were five types of sandwiches - two halves of each, cherry tomatos, two scones served with lemon curd, Devonshire clotted cream and assorted jams, three slices of Rowena's's famous cakes, three slices of various melons, strawberries, kiwi's, grapes, and two hersey kisses. All of this was served on three tier trays...not one for each table but one three tier tray for each guest. It was just everything you expect at a Royal Tea and beyond. They even provided containers for take home delights. It was simply Marvelous!!! I recommend this Tea Room highly to everyone who reads this review. Thank you Rowena, Andrea and staff for a remarkable event! We will certainly be back soon! Aurora Livingston, Director, Virginia Tea Society, www.virginiateasociety.com

This is a Norfolk delicacy. You can buy the cakes in several locations. My favorite is the almond. If you really want a treat try it with lemon curd.

Definitely a Tidewater tradition, as mentioned above, but I'm not impressed. Dry cakes and cookies. I wouldn't pay for their desserts again.

Cakes, tea parties, gifts, so many surprises in this little shop

This is not really a restaurant, but a retail shop of gift items with a room for tea parties. There are the cakes and curds, cookies, tea and a variety of non-food gift items. My favorite cake is still the almond pound cake with lemon curd. Her lemon curd is fabulous. But since I have been shopping for hostess gifts...

We have been going to Regino's for many years and have never been disappointed. I do miss their old location, but the restaurant is still owned by the original family, and the menu has not changed. To us, they have one of the best pizzas…
