Help us make it rightFast – Delicious – Affordable. Signature items include french fries cut fresh daily, and real dairy custard, frozen on site daily. Said to have the best hot dogs in town, one can load up with a choice of fourteen toppings which, in addition to the old standards, include blue cheese cole slaw and sweet potato mustard! With cheeseburgers, BBQ, our grilled chicken sandwich (think State Fair) and...
cute little place to stop & eat! Definitely give them a try. Not the cheapest for fast food - but it's a nice treat every once in awhile. It's nice to sit at the bar & look out the window as you...
Great casual eatery with fresh burgers, awesome fries and a fantastic home-made limeade. Also great for hotdogs and ice cream!
Stumbled across Retro's Saturday night after opting to cancel reservations at the tavern in Colonial Williamsburg ($30 for soup? No thanks). Menu was pretty decent and affordable. Service was fast and we were in and out in less than 40 minutes.
Had a good time with the Family eating here while walking around Historic Williamsburg. Good Food and better than average prices for the location.
Just like to heading says. Good Hot Dogs and Great Custard. Need I say more. I would suggest mustard on your hotdog
If you're looking for gourmet food and excellent service, perhaps one of the pubs in the historic area would be more for your liking. However, for a quick meal that allows more time to enjoy historic buildings, Retro's should be fine. I ordered the dreamsicle milk shake - what a hoot!! The ice cream was hanging over the edge of...
Best in the area if you are in the mood for Burgers and Fries, do not pass this quaint, but prime place for your retro culinary desires. Sit at the window counter and watch the world while enjoying the nostalgic atmosphere. Make it romantic or enjoy with the kids.
Small and cramped, but no one stays long. Order, Eat, Leave. Basically burgers and hot dogs. I had the hot dog with chili. It was fine, but nothing special. Expected more after reading the reviews. I'd eat there again for a quick lunch.
Customer service kinda sucked. It seemed to be a massive inconvenience to take our order. With no one behind us every question was met with rolled eyes and distain.
Stopped by on a Friday night after some shopping with friends. Personable and friendly staff. Food is mediocre. Onion rings were good, burger wasn't worth 4.29, although it was 100%angus beef. Fries werr not good at all. Supposed to have good desserts but we didn't try any.
If you are looking for an inexpensive good sandwich in Williamsburg this is your place. Homemade Lemon ade and limeade, shakes, etc. Nothing fancy but the food is good. Large meaty burgers. The BBQ was delicoius.
Burgers, fries, shakes, old fashioned ice cream sodas ... decorations on the wall from a by-gone era. We were looking for a cheap place to eat before heading out of Williamsburg. Very reasonable place for a tourist town. Very good.
Very good frozen custard. Didn't try anything else. Interesting decor, friendly staff.
Watch out for long lines in the afternoon.
This place was awesome. My husband and I both got a cheeseburger and fries but it was the best burger and fries weve had eating out. The French fries were homemade. The place is small and not a lot of tables but it seemed though they stayed busy. Everything I saw ordered looked yummy so I will definetly be back...
We went with my son and a few friends for an afternoon treat. The guys told us that they were known for their milkshakes, limeades, etc. so we went, we ordered, and collectively agreed that they were just average. Not worth the extra trip for just your average retro eats.
We stopped at Retro's for a quick snack before heading home from Williamsburg. We split a cheeseburger, fries, and chocolate shake. I regretting not having my own burger, as it was so good. The fries were excellent too. And I certainly can't complain about the shake either.
My wife finished it off with a custard cone, which was also very...
We twere looking for someplace quick and not crowded for lunch. We came upon Retro, lokked at the menu, and decided to give it a try. The food was good, but nothing spectacular. Service was quick and efficient. Good for a quick cheap stop.
Best onion rings!!! Corn dogs and cheese burger aren't too shabby either! The kids enjoy eating here and so does my hubby!
Soda Fountain type food. Fifty's decorations with local flare. Great food. Homemade lemonade to die for. Quick and friendly service.
My family and I just got down to Williamsburg and I googled "best burger in Williamsburg". It was ok but I went in thinking it was going to be the best. It was a very inexpensive place for a family of 5. If I just went there with no expectations I might have a different review. The girl that took...
You might find yourself eating here once you realize that Taverns at Colonial Williamsburg have to be booked in advance and are incredibly expensive! That's how we found ourselves here on a summer night after having walked around for several hours. It's still expensive enough, but looks like a bargain after the Colonial Williamsburg prices. It's OKAY. Food is average;...
They have great hot dogs and toppings. My Son ordered a Chicken Quesadilla and it hardly had any chicken in it. My order of Blue Coleslaw was very good but was only half full in a small container and the same with the large fry, not a big portion.
This restaurant focuses primarily on hot dogs with some other offerings available. The only thing that impressed me about this diner was the young lady working the register. Everything else has lots of room for improvement. The hot dogs are very small (and at more than $4 a piece they should be larger). The buns were heated to the point...
We visit Retro's often, and I always get grilled cheese and tomato soup. Both are delectable. My husband likes the barbecue with cole slaw on top. Not fancy eating; just good eats. Prices are great too!
Awesome burgers and fries! The service was very quick, which was good since we were all starving from having walked through Colonial Williamsburg all day. Great for a quick bite with the kids. Wish we had had time to try the frozen custard.
My husband and I ate here for dinner. We both got cheeseburgers and french fries. He got the chili cheese fries with his and I got the plain cheese fries with mine. One word of warning - the cheese is more like a cheese sauce, although it is still pretty tasty. The food wS basic but still delicious. The custard...
In a place where overpriced and underwhelming food choices are abundant, we found this little gem, an old fashioned type of malt shop. We were looking for an inexpensive and light afternoon snack because we were scheduled to eat dinner with family. Walking around Merchant Square we checked the menus for at least half a dozen cafes/bistros, etc. You could...
We had been struggling to find a place to eat that didn't have ridiculous wait times and a menu that all of us in our party could find something to eat. We literally stumbled upon this place and had great food that was tasteful and reasonably priced. It was a hot day and the added bonus of getting some ice...
Ate here as a family of four and total bill came to $27 which included a beer and a specialty root beer. We all enjoyed our food: grilled cheese with fries, veggie quesadilla, BLT and BBQ sandwich. Service was very fast. Great for a simple and yummy lunch with the family.
Diner atmosphere - great food and great prices. Great fries and the best pulled pork sandwich around! Fun for the kids, too!
Waited in line for 30 minutes, then waited 70 minutes more for the food. 3 hotdogs, 3 fries, and 1 hamburger
It's a decent place to grab lunch or some ice cream. I find the prices to be rather high, but they are typical for a Williamsburg tourist place. The service was slow on the day of this review. It took 14 minutes to get to basic sundaes and a plan cup of custard. I had to ask for the status...
We had soup, burger, fries, and a sundae. All food was good, although soup was just lukewarm. The menu offers a great deal of variety. It's a cute place and the prices are right for the area. We enjoyed sitting at the window counter.
Looks like a small, dive of a diner from the outside because its surrounded by "upscale" type bistros and whatnot. This place has friendly people working and awesome food. Just be prepared to wait for a seat if its packed as seating isn't very plentiful but thats part of the location. Its a small piece of Colonial Williamsburg dining and...
The burgers and grilled chicken sandwiches were good, fresh and tasty. The Onion Rings and Fries were delicious. Overall it was a little pricey but it wasn't crowded and it was a nice family restaurant. I would eat here again.
Food was decent and prices were reasonable. We went on a Thursday evening around 7 which I would consider peak time and there was a teenager taking the orders. He acted as if I was a causing him trouble by placing our order. This could be a really neat place it has potential. Right next to campus and up the...
Husband and I were walking around and wanted to stop for a treat and bathroom break. We both enjoyed sundaes (hot fudge, caramel), and would recommend this spot for those.
My husband and I had been looking forward to trying this place after seeing it any time we were in the area for other reasons. We finally made the trip out and was kinda disappointed by the whole experience.
The cashier was very nice, but did not know what one of the items was on the menu. They were also...
This is a great place to grab a bite , the offer even vegetarian options. The staff were great and chatted with us when it wasn't do busy. We chatted about what is in the are and what to see in town.
My family and I decided to try this place after many good reviews. We were so disappointed. I ordered a cheeseburger, Cole slaw and a limeade. The slaw was horrible. I sent it back. It was old, shriveled and watery. The ranch dressing for my husband's salad was chunky. Limeade was so tart could hardly drink it. Portions are small....
This cute diner offers very cheap, and very tasty, quick eats. The menu boasts great variety and the atmosphere will make you smile when you walk through the door.
Easy lunch food and great Limeades! My kids love the hot dogs and I like the grilled cheese. They do a nice root beer float as well.
My wife and I ate here twice while were in Williamsburg over Christmas and New Year's holidays 2013-2014. Aroma's next door was too crowded so we opted to try Retro's. We were very glad we did and went back again to Retro's. during our vacation in Williamsburg. Prices are reasonable for delicious food straight from the 1950's!
Got to go. Best place. Great food great prices. Friendly staff. We don't like overrated. This is comfy and comfort food. Like the style the staff talk with you.
50s diner atmosphere, milkshake, iced tea, and coffee were all rather small for the price. milkshake was good, quite creamy..
Our party of seven was wandering and tired and desperate for a place to eat. We happened upon Retro's and had a great meal. I had the grilled chicken sandwich, which was very good. I also was very intrigued by the blue cheese coleslaw, which I enjoyed. We had some fried pickles as well. The kids loved their burgers. Great...
This place was delicious. Fattening and horrible for you but delicious. Initially I planned on eating somewhere else on this block but when I saw this...
Great place for a hamburger. Cute inside but also plenty of space to eat outside. The fries are delicious, and I would recommend the draft root beer. Complements the food well. Quick service too. I had my hamburger in less than fifteen minutes - and a fresh one. Also a variety of milkshakes and ice cream choices. Overall, yum! I...
I really wanted to like this place... I was so tempted to pay a second visit to Aromas (which I gave 5 stars) but thought I should try something new....
Ate their before we did a ghost tour, and it was cool. The walls were covered with old newspapers and letters that provided little historical conversation. The good was VERY well priced and actually really good as well.
Milkshakes, burgers, fried pickles reminding you of the old time burger joints. Think American Graffiti days without the roller skates. And the prices were reasonable compared to most of the other restaurants.
Sometimes retro diner restaurants get by on the schtick instead of making good solid food. Retro's was not one of these. We all enjoyed our meals here. My husband particularly liked the meatloaf. It was a fun atmosphere and a tasty meal.
We ate here once during our stay because I LOVE frozen custard. It was cute, college type of joint with a menu that included hot dogs, burgers, chili fries, fried pickles, draft beers, draft root beer, shakes, floats, frozen custard. I had a frozen custard sunday that was yummy and did not disappoint. We also had a burger & fries...
I wasn't impressed at all! It is a tiny place and the place wasn't busy but service was slow! I did like the college town and retro vibes but I think it needed a little more omf!
We ate here twice during our stay, hot dogs, burgers, chilli fries etc good menu, draft beers & draft root beer, shakes, floats & frozen custard, friendly quick service, reasonable prices , great place for familys.
Delicious food and good service. Line was a bit long and food took a little longer than expected but the taste made up for the wait. Staff friendly. Hot dogs, ice cream, burgers. Not much else foodwise. Nothing fancy.
The food is just ok. Pretty expensive for a burger and fries. I wouldn't eat here again
Retro's is rather cheap and pretty tasty. Get a hot dog and the blue cheese coleslaw.
Amazing frozen custard. What a cute little shop. It's the perfect location for a quick, cheap bite to eat. Their hot dogs are great (all beef and potato buns - yay!) and the frozen custard is AMAZING - so creamy and delicious. The fries are OK; not bad but not a destination french fry place. But ohhh the fried pickles - deeelish! Overall, a great little lunch spot.

If you have not tried frozen custard, you absolutely MUST share this fabulous treat with your children! No child should grow up in America without trying it at least once! What a delicious treat after a long day of perusing living history sites in hot, steamy, coastal Virginia!

Best Limeade and Burgers!!!
Nothin' Fancy. There is nothing fancy about the Retro except the taste. Great dogs, hand-cut fries, and the custard......AMAZING! The custard has the flavor of frozen whipped cream. I really enjoyed my visit. PLEASE BRING BACK THE MONSTER DOG!
After walking around all morning I was feeling very thirsty and remembered seeing a sign in town for Limeade (which is a personal favorite). They delivered...

Our local spot. Only been here twice but my kids and I are going to make this place a regular spot for us. Burgers and hot dogs were great and they let you write on the chalk board.
