Furniture old and stained

Average Rating

The building seemed below standards for a Renaissance. We were shown three rooms, all of which had stained upholstered furniture, dirty rugs, and a musty odor. We were finally offered a suite as a free upgrade--this had different furniture which was more acceptable and allowed us access to the executive lounge (free breakfast). While the price was reasonable, I would not risk having to stay in...

OMG..Nightclub Across the Street was SO LOUD

Average Rating

We had a 4th floor room that is, apparently, directly across from a nightclub. The music was SO LOUD it reverberated through our bodies, making sleep impossible. Furthermore, the music, along with the disorderly and drunk patrons loitering outside, did not stop until 3am. It's very disappointing as the hotel itself is old-world beautiful, and the rooms were lovely.

Drugs, thugs, gangsters- all straight too. Scorpio should officially be removed from the list of gay bars in CLT. Fights every Sat night, metal detectors at the door do not prevent them getting weapons over the wall of the ""Patio"". How else could somebody have been held at gunpoint in the restrooms and the SWAT team had to be called? The management of this club should be ashamed. The Tyson family should take this property back and close it before there is a massacre there.

Best gay dance club in Charlotte, despite its shortcomings

Average Rating

I hadn't been to Scorpios in about six months and decided to try it out again last night. I will say that it has improved vastly since last time I was there back in October. The crowd was more of your typical gay crowd rather than the thug crowd this club has the reputation for. In addition it was a Friday night and it was packed...usually on Friday nights when I would go before there were maybe 30-40 people in the club at best. As for the music, decent but still a little too hip-hop heavy for my tastes, but they threw in just enough recent top 40 dance hits to make it enjoyable. There...

Best place to hang on a Sunday/Wednesday night

Average Rating

Scorpio is one of my two favorite places to hang. It's simply the best place for a gay or gay friendly person to hang on a Wednesday or Sunday night. Drag shows start between 11:30 and midnight (correct me if I'm wrong), and they are to die for! The dance floors have great music. Whether you prefer dance/techno/""boy"" music or R&B, you'll be content. The only con? When it rains, it pours...in other words, people come in and just don't stop, so you may have to be patient to get a drink. Other than that, Scorpio is great!

When I went to Scorpio, half the people were gay men and half were women. With a sprinkle of trans. Of those women, I think only 10% were gay women. The rest were straight women. All you do is run into straight women all over the place and the women, are looking at you, and dancing with the gay men the whole time. Definitely not the place for a single guy looking to meet someone new because each gay man is surrounded by his girl friends. Not a place to be for a DL guy either. Know Before You Go

Hungry? Most Renaissance locations feature upscale restaurants with inventive cuisine.

The Extras

Planning a business conference or special event? The hotel boasts a variety of ideal spaces for special occasions as well as meeting rooms and a business center.

Look Good

Use some fashion sense when dressing for your visit, but be casual, as you'll be sweating up a storm from the mob scene on the dance floor.

Where to Sit

Relax on the outdoor patio, or entertain yourself with the Technicolor movies and nonsensical cartoons shown on video monitors. Head upstairs to cool out in the mellow lounge, or kick up your heels in the rustic saloon.
