The Scene
If you've spent any time at all on the Virginia Commonwealth University campus, chances are you've eaten at Piccola's. For years, this Italian restaurant has been heavily...
Great pizza and fast courteous delivery. We Eat with them weekly! We usually order for delivery but service and Pizza are great in the storefront as well.
Hard to come up with something very original to say. We stopped in here after a performance at VCU for a quick bite and were pleasantly surprised. The staff were super friendly, service was quick, and the pizza was yummy. Just tried the pizza and had drinks (choice of fountain drinks and bottled ones). Desserts looked awfully good, too!
Nothing...
Piccola makes good pizza. Everything else is a bit plain and mediocre. This is my go to for pizza and they have yet to disappoint in that arena. The dine in section isn't the best and is always pretty deserted. I wouldn't say that the pizza truly stands out, but there is very little competition for that classic greasy slice...
Delivery guy was punctual and polite. He even came around the back alley to my back door, which made my life so much easier! My order was entirely correct, the Red Velvet cake was delicious! The only reason they get one star knocked off is because the taste of my entree was not really good. I ordered the Fettuccine Alfredo, and it was mostly just cream sauce...it lacked real flavoring of any...
Absolutely delicious!
The food was good however they forgot the portabella mushroom on my salad that I paid a dollar extra for. :(
The pizza we got was really good. It was a lot bigger than I expected, which was great! Also, it came about 20 minutes earlier than expected. Will be ordering there again
Piccola's is great! I've ordered multiple times. The food taste's great and is delivered hot! I'll definitely order from there again!
Best pizza in the #Westend
THE best cheesesteak in Richmond, Virginia and surrounding areas!!!!
The food is cheap and pretty reasonable, but the place is busy and loud. It is a trade off worth considering if you're in the area, but it is definitely a college spot. There were groups of people working at tables the entire time I was there, and more than one group was obnoxious and noisy.
Food was alright. Gnocci was a little bland, the sauce had no real special flavor, but it wasn't bad by any means. If you want cheap Italian to go you could do better but you could do a lot worse.
My family of four tried this restaurant using a Group for 2 appetizers, 4 entrees, and 2 desserts. If I hadn't gotten the food for about half price, I'd have scored it lower. The calamari was freshly breaded and lightly fried, but the calamari must have been previously frozen and lacked flavor. The bruschetta was basic and good. The chicken...
I order from here all the time. The food is always delicious and delivered in a timely manner. The chicken wings are nice and plump and delicious. Also the Mediterranean salads and the subs are always tasty.
it was okay. but not the best.
The food was great. They just didn't give me the chicken I'd ordered for my salad.
I am new to Richmond, I am 100% Italian, Pisana! I drove from VA to NJ to get a real NATURAL pizza from SAMS pizza in Wildwood. I just saw the name and thought "I will try this". THE MANAGER...
Always amazing
The customer service was rude and disrespectful when the guy took my order over the phone. The delivery driver never brought the food to the door...I had to go to him. The mozzarella sticks were soggy and barely warm, Thee steak and cheese sub was soggy with grease and had very little flavor, and the turkey and cheese was the...
The food is great. Got some complementary wings with my last order.
Most people think of this as a pizza and sub shop, but it has a small and casual restaurant attached that is highly underrated. The food is good and plentiful, as well as reasonably priced. The one downside is that you have to plan to be there for awhile, since service has always been very slow.
This restaurant is within...
This restaurant was amazing.....love..love...love!!!!
Very efficient delivery service, and fabulous food!
Ordered a Hawaiian pizza plus mushrooms & jalapenos. Let me tell you - those peppers were hot! Definitely higher quality than others I've had. Great stuff. My only complaints: 1. Driver didn't come fully to the door - seemed to expect me to come to the car to get my pizza... I'm at a house, not a walkup apartment.
2. Pizza could be a bit more cooked/done/crispy... just a tad. The...
Stopped in on a Sunday evening for a late night dinner. Order a calzone, Italian sub and steak salad. All the portions are large and reasonably priced -calzone $8.95' sub $6.50 and steak salad $8.95. The best deal was PBR draft pints $1.50. Service was good the food good not great but what do you expect for the money?
While waiting for someone nearby, I went into Piccola's and ordered a slice of sausage Pizza. When I tried it, Piccola's became my favorite Pizza place. The best pizza I have had in Richmond. Thin sliced sausage, not crumbled. Read the other reviews. but for pizza, give it a try.
If you are situated on a college campus and want your business model to be pizza, subs, and affordable beer, that is a pretty tried and true formula. Just don’t pretend to be anything more than that.
In the heart of Virginia Commonwealth University, Piccola’s is also conveniently located to pick up dinner before a show at the Landmark Theater,...
very good. they do not deliver to my address but did so after they already prepared my food. Gave me a closer delivery place. Super nice.
Love.. For me, Piccola's is the best pizza in Richmond. Definitely on par with Mary Angela's, but a lot more affordable. Delivery service is usually speedy.
Actually lives up to the hype!. The GOOD: The rare pizza place that everybody talks about--and which actually lives up to the hype! (See 'Bottoms Up' for hyped pizza that doesn't deliver). Delicious NY style pizza sold by the slice with whatever toppings you desire. Huge slices. Order & seat yourself. Offers delivery. Walking distance from a lot of places you're likely to be (VCU, Landmark...
Caeser w/chicken. Disappointing as made with iceburg lettuce and dry and tastless chicken. Lots of dressing though. Glad I only offered a small salad. My family loved their eggplant pizza.
Will do. The location of this place leads to it's success. While at VCU, I ate there several times, but was never impressed. Sandwiches are run of the mill, they will do but nothing special. I did not ever care for their pasta dishes - did not like the texture that the pasta was cooked to OR the meat sauce. Many of my friends did like their food, so I have had several take out salads and or...
Literally am sitting in utter awe right now about the fact that I ordered a Large Greek salad and steak and cheese sub @ 12:22pm, got my salad almost immediately after placing the order. The sub was not brought out until 12:51pm for my friend who endured watching me eat. There were 8 people served before us as my friend sat and watched the game, all 8 people arrived minutes after we did. There were at least 6 people who ordered pizza slices(understandably faster heat and serve) but was disturbed by the a gentleman getting his gyro before my friend who arrived less than 10 minutes after us....
I personally have never had their pizza but I can assuredly vouch for their subs (chicken parm!) and their wings are absolutely amazing. Fast service, good prices - definitely not the nicest Italian joint in town but for the money it's a good choice.
We have been eating in the vcu area for many years, including at piccola's. Today will definitely be the very last time! The stale pizza was barely reheated and quite tasteless. What really sealed piccola's fate was when we realized that the 2 bottles of coke we ordered cost $1.85 each, only 30 cents less than the slice of cheese pizza ($2.15). We are truly outraged and want to warn other patrons, especially the students, not to become victims of these price gauging guineas. They need to have some respect for their customers if they want to continue doing business in america .
If you're looking for pretty good, inexpensive italian food close by, happen to live in the lower fan area, and don't mind waiting, Piccola's is the perfect place. The scene is vibrant, with half of the restaurant catering mainly to students who want their food quickly and the other half serving as a more relaxed area for families. The staff is nice, but slow, so expect to wait; the food is worth it, though, particularly at those prices.
Pros
+ Decent food, convenient area, nice staff, family-friendly
Cons
- Slow
I love this place, even though they keep forgetting my drink(2liter). They are alway super nice & go retrive the drink quickly & return with it.
What a nightmare! First, Piccola's is a loud, dirty college spot that caters to an undecerning college crowd. The servers were all sitting at a table smoking cigarettes and seemed ""put out"" to have to actually wait on our table. The waiter had great difficulty communicating in English. We ordered two draft beers off a limited beer liist, only to be told that they were out of our first two choices. We settled on a third choice, and ordered two slices with mushrooms and pepperoni. Within two minutes, our beer and pizza arrived together. The pizza was obviously retrieved from under a...
The SceneIf you've spent any time at all on the Virginia Commonwealth University campus, chances are you've eaten at Piccola's. For years, this Italian restaurant has been heavily trafficked by VCU students; not surprising, considering it sits across the street from the VCU business building. Lately, however, Piccola's has revamped its dining area in an effort to broaden its customer base and...
The food was good, nice and cheesy. Just the way I like it. The service was sporadic. Although, definitely was not the waitress' fault. She had quite a few tables to wait on (she said they were not usually busy during the time we went). The young crowd were a little, no, a lot noisy. I didn't fully enjoy my meal until they left. Overall, a good place to eat.
