Help us make it rightThis restaurant has the most wonderful atmosphere, the best wait staff and some of the best salmon I have ever eaten. The salmon is cooked to perfection. It is moist, flaky and covered in a rich butter sauce. All ts very good.their food is really great. They have fantastic margerhita specialty drinks.
This is a locals hangout so you might want to get there early as it is small and not a lot of tables but the food is very good and you can get something besides fries severed with your meals. The seafood is very good and this is a good selection plus they have nightly specials!
We come to Hatteras Island in the off season to get our rental house ready. Oceana's was recommended by locals Love it!
The food is tasty and affordable. Cheap beer, too!
This is my favorite restaurant in the whole Outer Banks. It's our go-to for special occasions. The food is delicious but I've noticed that the quality isn't as good during the off season. I had a gorgeous house salad that had fresh grated parmesan, mushrooms, and cucumbers months ago but noticed the salad wasn't as loaded recently. This place gets...
Oceana Bistro delicious and the Staff is always friendly! This is a quint little place that is pretty consistent in their food and staff.
This restaurant was recommended to us by a local man. We went in to get wings and they hit the spot. Maybe not the best wings I have ever had, but I would return for them. It is off season, but it clearly a go to spot for many people. The restaurant had space, but we had take away. The...
I live here in Avon and love coming to Oceana's on my day off for their breakfast! I have never had anything bad from here. The wait staff and bar staff are always friendly and serve you with a smile!!!
Despite the lack of waiting area while waiting for a table, extremely good experience. Food was outstanding and out in reasonable time. Waitress Savannah was very professional in detailing the specials and desserts. My only complaint is of another waitress, who had her serving book tucked into the backside of her jeans. She would grab the serving book from her...
Great food, really good prices, and a good atmosphere for the family or friends just wanting to chill at the bar. My family loves to hit up there $1 taco Tuesday's. They have daily specials, and taco Tuesday is a local favorite!
They have a fun staff, very friendly and attentive, and good cooks! We always have good service. Love...
Oceana's Bistro is one of the few restaurants open all winter, and for that reason it ranks HIGH on my list! I LOVE their fish tacos because they use wahoo and because they have fresh mango salsa on them. One order is not enough for me, but they are priced as an appetizer. Just order extra! Every night there is...
We spend 3 weeks in the fall in Avon and this is our go to restaurant. Many places are shutting down for the season so options are often limited. The food is consistently good and the staff are always friendly. We have tried almost every item on the menu and have yet to be disappointed. Their daily specials are terrific...
As previously stated by other reviewers OBX is a ghost town in January. This restaurant was recommended by our hotel. We had dinner here two nights and couldn't get enough of the popcorn shrimp! Piping hot, crispy and perfect!
Outer Banks, NC, in January is like a ghost town. However, Oceana was a very alive stop. The food was excellent, oyster special on a Friday were superb. I enquired where they cam from, and it was local and fresh. Table service was A+, friendly and prompt. In summer, I suspect one must wait to get in. Worth the wait.
We ate here late one evening during the winter season when there weren't many options and we were very pleased with the food and the service both. We would definitely stop in during the peak season and enjoy this place again.
There is better seafood in the NC mountains than here. The oysters were small in a hard fried batter. Some thought they must have come pre-fried. The other folks in our party thought their dinner was good. My mother and I love fried oysters. They're not very good here. For everything else, the food was OK to good. My son-in-law...
My husband and I recently visited OBX during the thanksgiving week. We stayed in Avon and discovered Oceana by default. We originally wanted to try another restaurant but upon arrival they were closed for the season. So, we decided to try Oceana despite some of the "not great" reviews. I'm glad we did.
It was a small rustic place. We...
Don't know about lunch and dinner. Biscuits were not as fresh and "southern" delicious as I hoped they would be.
While touring the area we stopped here for lunch based upon T/A reviews and were very glad we did.
Everything we ordered, including sides, was either very good or excellent, and prices are very fair for the quality of the food. Steamed clams app's were tender and tasty. The grilled Mahi sandwich was a standout. The Mahi was moist, tender...
Our group dinner was delicious. Portions were generous and the food was prepared with chef level skill. My ribs were seasoned perfectly, I like ribs with a nice rub rather than meat that is just sauced. They were tender with a nice chew not too tough not too mushy.
We spent a week in Avon (November, 2015) for fishing and relaxation. Oceana's was close and one of the few restaurants open in the off-season. We had the unusual experience of eating there for 6 nights. We liked the food, the staff and the price.
The food was well prepared, in good quantity and well presented. The crab cakes were...
We arrived in Avon after dark and decided to pop in here for a bite before checking into our house. It was a good decision. Friendly service and good food. We enjoyed the clam chowder, flounder dinner and crab cake sandwich. The crab cake was mostly crab and sooo good.
We stopped while driving the OBX. The service was very slow. Can't imagine if the place was busy. The fish tacos were very good and my husband had the fried shrimp basket which he enjoyed.
The staff was very accommodating to the kids and parents. The environment is relaxing and has many local craft beer options and the apps were very enjoyable.
Stopped for dinner last night. We got there early. About 5 pm and we were lucky because if you get there later you have to wait for a table. It's extremely crowded. Place is packed and I think it's understaffed which means you wait for service. Food quality is average but the prices are far above average. The seafood is...
Our server, Sterling, was excellent. It was her first night working the floor alone, and she was a real pro. It's a small place, and it filled up. Reasonably priced beers and wines. Good salad. The "Grillers" are good; their website says, "The best way to describe our signature grillers is that they are a cross between a pizza and...
OK, Friday at 6:00PM is a busy time. No seats in the restaurant, so we opted for the bar. Got the only two seats left. Took about 30 minutes to place our order. The food was great. Grilled shrimp and scallops for one and fried oysters for another. Both fabulous.
We spent a weekend in Avon and had bad luck finding a good meal until we found this place! Awesome food; great service. The fried veggies on the appetizer menu were a huge hit! Next time we go to Avon, this is where we'll eat!
We visit Oceana's at multiple times every time we visit Avon. It started because it's conveniently located, walkable from our beach house. It continued because everything we order there is good to outstanding. Love their daily specials. Just had a great basket of fried shrimp with their Old Bay Chips - tonight's special. Love their red sangria. Iced tea is...
We enjoyed real good coffee, tasty breakfasts, and great service from Savanna. It's the place to go for breakfast in the Avon / Buxton area.
Waitress forgot to bring the drink order and when she noticed we didn't have drinks, she came to ask if we wanted anything to drink. Umm .....
Food (burger and fried shrimp) took forever to arrive, to the point where we were just going to walk out. People around us who ordered around the same time had their food well...
A fun little spot to go for a beer or margarita. Go for lunch on Tuesday and get their $1.00 taco special - these are great and fun!
My wife and I recently had dinner here with mixed results. I elected to have the prime rib with a side salad and broccoli, and my wife had the grilled salmon with the spinach and avocado salad. While my side salad was quite good, the prime rib, which was ordered as medium, came out more well done. The meat was...
stopped by for some take out lunch, waitress was very helpful and patient while taking our orders . had a few drinks at the bar while we waited and the bartender was very friendly and told us to try the Hatteras Hurricane(YUM). got food and drove back 20 min away, food was still amazing!!!!!
breakfast was great with egg and ham quesadilla! coffee was quick to the table. Biscuits and gravy was also good for the other members of the group. For three of us, breakfast was $31.
Stopped by on our way back from driving along route 12. You must try the sliders they are amazing! Highly recommend!
What a great place to eat!!! Wonderful calamari and fish tacos!!! The drinks were wonderful!!!! The bartender was attentive without being too talkative! Met the owner, wonderful lady!!! A definite place to eat!!! Extremely reasonable!!!
We are long time visitors to Avon, Buxton and Hatteras, and so we have our local favorite restaurants that we always frequent. We decided to try something different and went to a late dinner at Oceana's. We both wanted a no frills meal- just local seafood simply prepared. Sunday is the fried shrimp special with old bay chips, and although...
We ate here our first night on the OBX. Food and drinks are great, service was fast and friendly. Loved the hush puppies!
My wife and I decided to try the"Bistro" for a light breakfast. That was a mistake. Her "gold standard" for breakfast is biscuits and sausage gravy. Theirs was sub-par. The gravy was milky and relatively flavorless.Clearlyit had been prepared first without the requisite sausage drippings and the chopped up sausage had been added later. When the biscuits first arrived, both gravyand...
Great visit at the bistro! The place is pretty small, and the food took awhile to come out but everything was great! It has a great bar atmosphere, and a good selection of drinks. Old Bay wings were fantastic, and they don't skimp on the $1 taco special, they were also great! I would easily recommend this to others.
We were driving up highway 12, looking for a place to have dinner, and the parking lot of Oceana's Bistro was full. That to me means a good place to eat and it sure was. They had a great menu with lots of seafood on it. I had grilled tuna with a baked potato and grilled veggies. I order my...
Good food at reasonable prices. This is the place I go for breakfast when I'm staying in Avon. Friendly staff and pleasant dining experience. The grits are always a nice treat for me
Breakfast was fantastic. Eggs Benedict with a lightly spiced hollandaise. The service was great as well. Not a huge wait for seating or delivery of meal.
We had an early supper at Oceanas Bistro Restaurant on North Carolina's Outer Banks route 12 in Avon. What a treat! Friendly and attentive staff and very clean dining room. Full bar. Our meals were very good. Had sushi grade tuna wrap sandwich and a Crabmeat Griller which had so much crab meat and artichoke and mushrooms with cheese, we...
Breakfast was the meal of the day. I loved the crab omelet and the grits were made just right. A little pricey on the choc chips on th3 pancakes, aside from that no complaints
Our server Nathan M was exceptional .One of the best waiters we've ever had. Enjoyed the atmosphere. We all enjoyed our meals. My father thought the hamburger was great and I really enjoyed the chicken breast sandwich. Highly recommended. we will be back.
Each year our family rents a house in the Outer Banks. Last year we were in Salvo, this year Avon. While we normally make breakfast, we decided to go out for breakfast. What a treat, coffee terrific, food excellent and service great. It's rustic and has a relaxed down home feeling. Don't feel like breakfast...go to Oceanas!
Service was good, food was good, it was reasonably priced. Definitely want to go back and try their home made ravioli. Didn't know they made their own till after we ordered our food.
Went both for breakfast and dinner through out our week stay. Breakfast was awesome. I can eat there grits and sausage patties all day. For dinner, everyone loved there dish. The entrees were a tad tiny for the price. But was expected while on vaca. Definitely recommended.
Went for dinner with friends and family while on vacation. We had a party of 6, which was apparently larger than optimal. We had to wait about 20-25 minutes for a table but the place is really small with only about 10 tables in the dining room and nothing but bar stools in the bar area. We waited outside on...
Awesome grillers And spinach artichoke dip! Ambience is pretty good and service was pleasant! It's must visit!
Stopped here one morning right after they opened for breakfast before heading further south. The food was pretty mediocre and they did not get all the orders right. Mayo on a BLT when it was...
This place is the Cheers of Avon, NC. $1 PBR and if you guess the card under the cap correctly, it's completely free. They have specials every night. The main one worth checking out is the...
I Stopped here one night in may of 2015 for dinner and I had the taco Tuesday Special,The taco's are very good. The workers are very nice. I would come back here again.I would give this place...
Perfection. Great dinner, as always. Great service from a terrific new server... Welcome, Brandi!!
This place was recommended, so we tried it out. Easy to find...easy parking...and a friendly welcome. Was told they do breakfast, so after photographing the beach sunrise, we went here...about...
OMG! Get the greek omelette!! Soooo good. Good atmosphere, service was fine, and we will plan on coming again!
Good breakfast...love grits! Decent experience for OBX, the breakfast was fine
Delicious for breakfast! We visited Cape Hatteras for a quick weekend trip in January and Oceana's was one of the few places open in the off-season. We ended up here for a late Sunday morning brunch and were happy to see they were still serving breakfast at 11am. I had the biscuits and gravy and my girlfriend …
Excellent food, reasonably priced and food quality is consistent.Excellent nighttime bartender. It's our go-to spot when we're in town.
Great tasting grilled tuna with fries. Generous portions and prompt service. However, it is off season and most of the customers were at the bar.
Cute bistro! We stopped for lunch after climbing cape hatteras lighthouse - found out that they serve only breakfast until 12pm - but the food and service were both good. The lunch/dinner entrees on the chalkboard on the wall looked great!
Went there for breakfast this morning-- waited 50 minutes and then the food was cold-- sent it back to be microwaved-- still not hot. Had a friendly server,Nathan-- but not acceptable for a few eggs and sausage gravy!
Don't believe the 87% review. I have no idea how that happened. The nachos were good. Our main dishes (chicken Alfredo was and Philly sandwich)were bland. Our appetizer and main dishes came out at the same time.
Everything fried was delicious, crisp not soggy: pickles, coconut shrimp, oysters, & popcorn shrimp. Friendly, quick service to top off a great meal.
I was surprised to read anything negative at all about Oceana's as my whole family loves this place! We have been visiting it every time we come down to Avon, which is several times a year, and we…
After reading other reviews, I'd have to guess that their menu is just really spotty. This place truly is nothing more than a bar that serves food, so keep that in mind when you read the rest of this…
Wonderful food, The IE tuna is out of this world! Great Service! A small and personable astmosphere with island charm. Not a chain atmosphere Hatteras Island all the way.
It was evident as we walked in the air conditioning was not working, and we were pointed to a table hear a fan. It wasn't terribly hot, but being blown around wasn't great. What was great was the 20…
Blech. A bar with a few tables selling fair pub grub. Not going back to this restaurant in Avon - even though I often say every restaurant deserves a second chance....Methinksnot...plenty of other…
The other reviews are pretty much on target on target (except for the one that said this was "gourmet"). Although I'm surprise it received 4 and 5 stars. Even in off season, the service was…
My daughter, husband and I ate lunch at the bar here while on vacation. The food was good, I had a veggie sandwich, husband had a crab cake sandwich and daughter went for the dollar taco specials. The…
Great food. Service a touch shaky, but just because they were slammed.
Great breakfast.
The sesame seared tuna is the secret of the island. Kick ass brunch, the blackened tuna griller (like an open faced quesadilla) is amazing, comes with Feta and Sun dried Tomato. They have a Great Wine…
I visited the Oceana's in July of 2006 with my Fiance, and found that the food, service and atmosphere we all together a great experience. We had walked in on some karaoke and took in the many versions of songs that the other patrons had put their own twist on. We loved the quaint beachy feel of the lounge and do plan on revisiting one of my favorite places in the OBX next summer. I really...
