Editorial reviews from the web (1)

The MacArthur Memorial is the burial place of one of America's most distinguished military officers. General Douglas MacArthur (1880–1964) agreed to this navy town as the site for his monument because it was his mother's birthplace. In the rotunda of the old City Hall, converted according to MacArthur's design, is the mausoleum; 11 adjoining galleries house mementos of MacArthur's career,...

After watching a documentary about General Douglas MacArthur and hearing he was laid to rest in Norfolk, we decided to go see the MacArthur Memorial. It is easy to find. Exit 10 off of 264, 3 blocks on the left across from parking at MacArthur Mall. Parking ticket can be validated at the Visitor Center for 3 hours of free...

This museum provides a movie on the General's life/career as well as interpretative displays on his activities in WWI, WWII, and Korea. It can be seen in a fairly short time (hour or two) and is particularly great for children in junior high/highschool who are studying this aspect of U.S. history. Also, they recognize veterans there which I thought was...

I was born in MacArthur's hometown, traced his steps in the Philippines, and now reside in the town where he retired. It's wonderful to see such a fabulous memorial to the man, as well as a fitting final resting place for him and his wife. Make sure you visit all the buildings in the memorial!

This place is one of the best museums I have seen on one person. The life and times of General Macarthur are a very interesting history lesson! I went by my self and still had a great day! My favorite part was why he left the service and his life more towards the end of it. Go check it out...

There is so much history and information presented about General Douglas MacArthur and the world events which shaped him as well as those he shaped. More than just a collection of posters and facts, it was neat seeing various uniforms, medals, letters and replicas of artifacts. Dragged kicking and screaming, on the inside, by my husband the history buff on a work-related mission, I thoroughly enjoyed learning about General Douglas MacArthur and his legacy at the memorial. Additionally, there is a wonderful exhibit on the 42nd Rainbow Division currently on display in the accompanying building where you can also enjoy an informative film on the life...

If you want to know more about Douglas MacArthur than "Duty, Honor, Country," I recommend you spend a couple of hours at the MacArthur Memorial. Obviously, it is very focused on a single individual, but he did have a long and distinguished career in the US Army. I was fortunate enough to tour the memorial with a group, so I...

Great museum and memorial of one of America’s greatest generals. If you do not know the history of GEN MacArthur, the museum does a good job of chronicling his professional life (there is a bit on his parents history, not much between graduating West Point and becoming a Brigade Commander). Take the time to walk through the museum, there are...

I learned quite a bit by my visit to this museum. I was traveling with history buffs who were very familiar with MacArthur but I was not as knowledgable. The museum is a wonderful tribute to the man who believed in duty, honor and country. The gift shop offered many books to purchase as well as other items.

On a vacation with my parents (ages 81 and 79), we decided to visit this memorial while in Norfolk because MacArthur was someone my parents grew up hearing about. I have to confess that I knew little of him beyond his part in the Korean War (of which my father is a veteran) and his dust-up with President Truman. Well,...
