Editorial reviews from the web (1)

"Phenomenal" bread with a "crunchy crust" and "delicate crumb", "fabulous" pastries, "heavenly" chocolate spreads and other "imaginative" bites "perfect for a quick lunch" make these Belgian bakery/cafes "hard not to like"; communal tables and "rustic" decor are "very Euro" – likewise what some call "touch-and-go" service and somewhat "steep" tabs, though many say the "yummy carbs just lift you...

I like the food at LPQ, but I really like this location. They have very little staff turnover and the entire team is friendly, efficient, and they always remember me! Ganesh waited on me today and...

Highly recommend for brunch! Fantastic food and service. So many options to choose from. This is by far my favorite LPQ location. Ganesh is the BEST server, and one of the main reasons I...

This is one of my favorite Clarendon breakfast and lunch spots. It's a great place to meet with friends or eat alone and read a book or do work on your laptop. I always try to sit in Elane's...

I love this atmosphere. It feels fresh and clean like Whole Foods vibe. It was busy when I went and service was average. Food is decent for brunch place. A little above average but I would go...

Small menu over priced lack of customer service attentive. Not worth it

Food was good, portions were very small! Even some of the small children at our table had to order seconds. Our waitress was friendly but absent most of our meal, forgot some of the order and never refilled waters or asked if we wanted more coffee.

Service is absolutely horrible. By American standards at least. Maybe they're going for the authentic European slow service? Idk. But I didn't appreciate waiting 10 min on a blazing summer day for...

As a returning customer this place never disappoints. Wonderful food and service! Clean and wonderful atmosphere

The place for French style breakfast

My favorite place for Parisian breakfast

The place to be for breakfast

Everything is good and healthy. The brunette spread is a must!

Organic Bistro in Heart of Arlington

Met a friend for brunch / breakfast here on Saturday.
- was surprised to find that it's a chain -
Very open and airy location, with outside seating in the Clarendon neighborhood of Arlington.
I had a nice coffee served in a rather large bowl, with the small metal pitcher for adding to my brew (that was cool). My breakfast...

How pleased I was to stumble upon this great little bistro one day on my lunch break. My coworker and I sat outside and enjoyed reading the fabulous selections on the menu. She "liked her open face chicken tartine, i chose the shrimp salad. It was good but not great. It just wasn't my taste. Both were fresh and satisfying...

Went for lunch last week. Really authentic French bakery with cafe. Bakery selection limited but outstanding. Fresh, excellent taste.
Had a spinach and goat cheese omelet. WIfe had Lentil soup. Really very good.
If you enjoy good bread, rolls, and pastry, this is the place to go.

Service was excellent! I read the other reviews, and frankly was reluctant to try this place because of the negative comments on service. I went on an early Sunday afternoon with a party of 11 and the service couldn't have been better. The food was excellent and a little pricey. I'll be back.

It is a Chain, but, oh, what a Chain

A very good artisanal bake shop, Le Pain Quotidien that sells croissants with a perfect, thin, crispy crust, very light and flaky – very skillfully done. Their flavor was slightly sweet, slightly buttery but the flavors were also light, like the pastry. The sourdough whole wheat rounds are archtypal, wholesome bread. Even the homely baguettes are spectacular.

Had lunch here on a Saturday afternoon and was not impressed. The noise level is very high, so talking with others can be challenging, especially if you are seated at the group/shared table in the center of the restaurant. It took a while to be noticed, as it was seat yourself, no hostess seating. Once we did have the attention...

Came here for breakfast on a lazy Sunday morning. My partner and I shared a bread basket and had some eggs on the side. I ordered a large latte which came in a soup bowl - I kid you not it was huge and really good. The best thing about the meal was the chocolate spread its out of this...

This terrific restaurant was delightful in all aspects, food, service and atmosphere. Primarily a breakfast and lunch place, eggs, sandwiches, breads and drinks were delicious. The brioche and the tuna sandwich were particularly well made.

What real bread tastes like!

Daily Bread in French. French decor with long common tables. International chain with sandwiches, pastries, beverages, salads, etc. Good for what it is. Many locations.

best fruit tarts!

reliable food .

A truly excellent Belgian patisserie, though a bit overpriced.

It's a chain, but the food is fantastic and the service delightful and welcoming.

I love this new location in Clarendon! Rustic, healthy, french cuisine brought to yuppy-ville. Relaxed-communal atmohsphere- you can go for a great meal with friends, or a cappuccino & croissant while enjoying the newspaper.

Fantastic place for breakfast because they serve more than the usual breakfast things. I love going there for real Parisian ham on a croissant with a salad for breakfast.

(lunch only), interesting and unusual menu selections, very good food, great breads.

I still don't get this place. Maybe this is the anti-Paula Dean

Food is good but overpriced, service lacking. The food is decent, but very overpriced, particularly baked goods. Servers are poorly trained.

After an early Saturday morning basketball game Tri and I were famished and looking for something good to eat. As we were walking back we saw people sitting outside of Le Pain Qoutidien and decided to go in. First off everyone I have talked to actually thinks this place is French, it is not it's Belgian! OK, now that we got that out the way, I really liked this place. They have healthy and...

The bread was so hard my tooth broke off.
They do not take resposiblity if their bread is too hard they will serve it anyway..
getting a new tooth is to expensive for me to eat there again.
let this be a warning to others.

On my first visit.... I finally got a chance to stop in for a late breakfast. anything on the menu except the Dinner section could be ordered, so there were a lot of choices. The coffee is drunk in handless cups almost like a soup bowl. I had one of the open-faced sandwiches, a chicken and mozzarella tartine. It was very good and the presentation was nice too. Service this visit was friendly --...

Ate their twice. Great pastries, a good slightly overpriced breakfast and some nice extras like chocolate or praline spreads as well as your regular jams.

The service was painfully slow and food was amazing. The delivery of food was disjointed... ie the food came out before the drinks and we had to bring back the server in order to get any condiments . At one point one of our party members had to leave the table to track down our server to fulfill our dining requests. Over all our dining experience was a horribly mismanaged mess. I would suggest...

A staple for lazy Sunday morning breakfasts! The breadbasket is cheap and divine - so good that the temptation to eat the menu holder made out of old bread becomes ever harder to resist.

Why can't anyone make good bread in DC?

French for "disappointing"

undistinguished and overpriced cafe food

I'd prefer a nicer decor with comfortable chairs. Otherwise, good food, nice service.

Solid neighborhood dining (went to the Clarendon location) The food was good, the restaurant has a warm, homey appeal and the service was attentive. They do a good job with their salads and sandwiches.

I love going here for lunch. I take anyone who comes to visit me here. Really fresh, organic, yummy food. Can't go wrong with whatever you order!

Good breakfast.

Appallingly bad service. It's as if the entire staff was trained to be inattentive and rude.

Overpriced for salads that aren't terribly spectacular. But the green initiative is refreshing to see.

Great place to sit and watch the city go by. Breakfasts are terrific; lunches are also good, but a bit pricey. Excellent hot chocolate.

Great place for dessert and wine! Simple but good wine selection and the best spreads for the most authentic belgian waffles in DC.

Georgetown location How is La Pain Quotidien doing it? Don't question it...just enjoy the fab hot chocolate, the the fresh and tasty tartines, or the vegan butternut squash soup. The best chain that defies expectations!

Best Bread in the area

Bethesda: Increasing popularity will soon make it harder to get a seat at busy times.
