The Best.

By far the best most authentic Sushi in Tidewater. After 15 years I have never been disappointed and the personnel attention and greeting from the owners and staff makes you feel welcome. The broiled squid and seaweed salad is the best and the spicy shrimp roll has a whole Tempura shrimp in it not some minced mess. Love this place. (Edited September 13, 2010)

We found this restaurant after a while and decided to try it. What a disappointment! We sat at the sushi bar and could see everything that was going on. The place is filthy. The quality of the food is bad. Keep away from this place.

A nicely priced little tucked away restaraunt for some good quality sushi. Nicely sized and very fresh portions of fish without too much rice. Cozy and friendly atmosphere for traditional Japanese Sushi. One of my favorite local hotspots that's for real sushi lovers. Great Food and Service!

This is a quaint Japanese restaurant. They have more traditional selection like sushi, shabu-shabu, udon (other noodle dishes). If you're looking for more modern Japanese food like curry and fried stuff, they have some but not a lot. Still, we go here for a nice meal.

We had late dinner on the way in to Virginia Beach on a business/leisure trip. Ramen was tasty and their sushi was great. Their eel with special sauce dish was so-so though. As an expert sushi eater I loved this place. The Christmas tree roll was delicious. Miso soup and tempura veggies were great. I ordered several other rolls and they were all very tasty. Friendly, efficient service, and wonderful food.

Disappointing. Visited Kyushu on a Friday night. I had not been here in ages because it was always crowded. However the restaurant expanded in size earlier this year. The restaurant had few customers this night. This was a foreboding of things to come. Past reviews raved about the quality of the sashimi. Unfortunately for us it was a big let down. There was no yellowtail in their combo. If you...

Outstanding Sushi. The first thing you'll notice about Kyushu is they're in a strip mall. The second thing you'll notice is how small the place is- it's almost a hole in the wall, but most sushi lovers know that some of the best meals come from places like this. Don't be intimidated if you have to wait- they have few tables and their sushi bar is small- it is absolutely worth the wait and worth...

Having traveled the country, nothing can lay a hand on this place. Whether LA, NYC, or Miami, I can't wait to get home to Kyushu!

I have been looking for a good Japanese take out place for some time (I really don't care for Chinese). Came across their website online and decided to give them a try. Their food is so awesome, I ordered the seafood katsu to go for lunch. The place was packed, but my order was ready. I didn't realize how much came with my meal, I got 3 or 4 shrimp, 4 pieces of fish, 2 scallops (wish I had...

The BEST sushi in the area. Kyushu has the best sushi and sashimi ive ever had (and Ive had sushi in SF, NYC, etc). I esp love the white tuna, the ramen and any of the bento lunch specials. The sunrise and mermaid rolls are also good and chef ebi is amazing.

Consistently Outstanding Japanese. I have been spoiled by the best. My first sushi was a deluxe platter made by the Japan born and trained Yama. (Yama worked at the Tokyo Inn on Independence Boulevard, and later started Sushi Yama in Newport News. He was eventually praised as the best sushi chef on the east coast by Seafood Leader magazine and others.) I studied the art and tracked every sushi...

A small but cozy Japanese restaurant, Kyushu is a local favorite. Getting a table at lunch is often a chore but well worth the wait. The sushi is outstanding, always fresh with nice sized portions and excellent cuts, and the same sushi chef prepares your food for you every day. Be prepared for an open kitchen and small dining area but definitely the best sushi spot in Virginai Beach.

Canned Marinara & Sauce

I have never had such poor service and food as I have here. When my friend ordered an antipasto salad, the waitress made sure we knew that meant a lot of work for her. You receive one meatball with a dish instead of the standard (at least around here) two. The sauce had less taste than the jarred sauce you can purchase at the store. Canned sauces would be a more appropriate comparison this was...

Too many Japanese restaurants modify their flavors for the local market but not these folks. The flavors are all just like they are in Japan. Many people want "Chicken Teriyaki" served in the manner of TGIF or other chain restaurants and this place just doesn't do that. Service is quick and it is one of the few (FEW!) Japanese restaurants in the area where people can actually speak Japanese. I...

After two dinners, I was left unimpressed. The Chicken Teriyaki had an "unusual" flavor and texture (like eating undercooked chicken skin). The Maki sushi dinner tasted like the seafood was going bad, and the rice had off putting sickly sweet taste. The service was terribly slow, as well, for a Thursday early evening.

What with having been stationed in Japan. When
ever I have been in Kyushu's, I have always felt like I was at home. Both, Ebi and the Ladies always make you feel welcomed, well taken care of and throughly spoiled. Used to live in Ventura and frequented Mariann's. Now live out of state. Whenever I'm in town within a couple hours driving time, I make the journey to this great restaurant. The only thing I order is Calzone. They flat out make the best Calzone on the planet.

Absolutely the best sushi in Virginia Beach. If you watch Ebi-san, the owner working, you will notice that he discards any pieces that are not up to his standards, rather than serving them like many sush chefs do. I have been a regular customer for three years, and have never had a piece of sushi here that wasn't fresh. It's always crowded, so make a reservation or arrive very early. This...
