Here's a perfect marriage of whimsy and elegance—updated guest rooms are filled with eclectic prints and plush furnishings, accenting the 15-foot vaulted ceilings and other traditional architectural elements of an 1839 neoclassical landmark designed by Robert Mills of Washington Monument fame. The hotel hosts a nightly wine reception and will even deliver a goldfish to your room for the...
Located on the Allegany Indian Reservation, this small tribal museum is dedicated to the Six Nations of the Iroquois Confederacy -- the Seneca, Oneida, Mohawk, Onondaga, and Cayuga, and eventually the Tuscarora. While one wishes there were a better historical overview here, there's an interesting reproduction of a longhouse, and a nice collection of cornhusk dolls, moccasins, and bead and...
The West Coast–based Kimpton Hotel Group brought its successful Monaco brand into D.C. with a flourish when it took over the distinguished 1839 Tariff Building. Designed by Robert Mills, who also created the Washington Monument and the United States Treasury Building, the neoclassical property is now a stylish boutique hotel (and a registered national landmark). Located in the...
Neo-classical post office transformed into post-modern hotel with cartoonish good looks. Crazy colors are Kimpton-brand signature, from absinthe chandeliers to lemon yellow walls, orange silk bed pillows. Play-on vintage structure bears a distinguished air, keeps skin-deep hipsters away. Bellboys in tails squeak shoes on marble, say "Welcome to Chinatown", carry Tumi bags for the nation's...

Thank you to the staff at Hotel Monaco for a truly memorable experience. The suite we had was beautiful, and the staff was amazing. Before I came down the staff asked me to email a of my dog. When we were up in the getting ready for the wedding we were attending, the brought up wine, cheese, and a framed photograph of my Vader! Thank you for all the details that are urged stay so memorable.

Great hotel and staff. Centrally located for sightseeing and dining out.
Everything was good except that I did not have much light in my room...
We stayed for 5 nights and used a rollaway for 2 nights so our daughter could join us on the weekend. The hotel is beautiful with several features which make it stand out from all the other nearby hotels. Number one is prompt and courteous staff. Number two, Monaco is a historic hotel which is directly across the street from the portrait gallery and walking distance to Archives and the National...
Wonderful hotel. The food was great. The room was nice and peaceful. The staff was very professional. I will definitely choose this hotel again.
A big shout out to Kara, Anderson and Kelly. Better customer service we could not have received, particularly when the stuff up was mine. I thought we might be sleeping on the streets as DC was totally full. Kara and Anderson made endless calls until we hit upon a hotel with a room - it took an hour. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for saving us, and ensuring we we tucked up tight last night. We are new...
Great convenient location accross from The Verizion Center. Complimentary wine and beer during happy hour. Located in the historic post office Hotel Monaco is not lacking for ambience. The eclectic contemporary decor and friendly staff make ones stay enjoyable. Rooms are a nice size.
Great place to stay. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room on our second night was amazing!
They take dogs!! And they love dogs. Misty got so much attention. And it is beautifully decorated. Restaurant was way too expensive!

Monaco had great service and was accommodating. Was there so my nieces cd go to Bieber at Verizon right accross the street. Got a nice suite and it was all worth it.
Our stay at the Kimpton Hotel Monaco was excellent! The service was superb and our room very comfortable. My dog, BJ, enjoyed his first stay at a hotel. I highly recommend the Hotel Monaco We will come back!
Hotel Monaco was overbooked and bumped me the first night of a PAID IN ADVANCE 2-night stay. They moved me to a hotel miles away. The had room for me the second night, and comped my first night, but it will be difficult to trust them now. Fortunately Hotels.com compensated me for my troubles and gave me great service.
Good location. Very small room(approx 18" from foot of bed to wall). Good attitude of staff. $50 fee to park car overnight.

My daughter and I stayed for 1 night as she danced in the Cherry Blossom Festival. This was our 3rd year in a row attending this event but the first time staying in this hotel. The front desk staff was kind and considerate. The valet parking attendant was efficient and kind (although $42 for 1 night with a room at this price seemed a bit excessive). Unfortunately, the room was not as clean...
My pricey king room was in the basement with no windows. They were accommodating about changing it, offered a queen room, not worth what I'd paid. The 3rd room they offered was fine, a king on the 3rd floor. But a street band outside the Verizon Center across the street played all day until 10pm super loud. The hotel is big and funky and a little shabby but great location.
Hotel Monaco is a beautiful hotel in a historic post office building. Staff was marvelous and very attentive to our needs. Easy walking distance to the Smithsonian buildings on the mall. Verizon Center is just across the street for sports fans.
aOur stay was very nice. I was disappointed with the maid service. We ordered a coffe pot for our room. The maids never emptied the pot or washed it and didn't leave extra coffee for the next day. I also used the extra blanket and they would fold it but didn't put it back where it belonged and each night I would have to look for it. It was always n a different place
I cannot say enough about the professionalism and courtesy of the hotel staff. They earned every bit of the 5 star rating, as they are simply outstanding. My exceptions are with the loud music coming from the bar's outside patio area. My room was next to the patio and the music was definitely too loud for most people to sleep. Granted the music usually turned off around 10:00 PM but not always....
Hotel was perfect walking distance to everything
Sites restaurants and across the street from train
We had a good stay recently at Hotel Monaco. Room was on the small side but had all the conveniences and was fresh and modern. High ceilings made it seem more spacious than it was. Enjoyed the cafe downstairs for breakfast. Comfortable chairs in the lobby for meeting friends.
For a queen room over $300+ night, I was in the basement... yes, below street level, almost NO natural light. This below grade floor also has a pungent odo and quality decoration does not make up for inferior conditions. This is the 6th or 7th, and LAST time I stay at a Kimpton hotel. The hotel location was good, access to the interior was inconvenient via a tall flight of unfriendly stairs....
Prepaid suite (purchased a month earlier) wasn't available at checkin. they had resold our room to another customer. They offered us a meeting room with a pull out sofa and we are a family of three! Then they sent us to a sister property 30 minutes away, under construction. Woken up at 6:40 by drilling and hammering. No restaurant. No room service. No amenities.
This hotel used to be a United States Post Office. It has the exterior pillared impressiveness of other Federal buildings in the area. We chose it because it is just next door to the "International Spy Museum". However, my room was in the OLD Post Office basement. The room had two small windows, and their bottom edge was 9 feet up! I realized if there were a fire in the hallway outside our...
We had a great time, staff are all very nice, the accommodations are beautiful! Close to museums and restaurants.
-We tried to order 2 cranberry vodkas to the room. The lady said they weren't sure if the bar could make that so she will talk with the bar and call us back. She never called us back so we started to drink from the minibar. 30 minutes later a waiter showed up at our door with 1 (not 2) cranberry vodka (which they never confirmed with us).
-The valet is my other issue. They ask for 30 minutes to...

Horrible experience. When I tried to add an additional night, the Hotel Monaco person booked me a night at a totally different hotel across the city. Finally fixed that, but am still fighting the charge on my visa.

My friend and I went to DC for a long weekend/girls trip and had a wonderful experience at Hotel Monaco! It is conveniently located across from a Metro station which made getting around super easy! Lots of bars and restaurants around and only about 6 or so blocks from the White House.

Wonderful place very convenient
The suite small but clean staff great no coffee maker in room
I had a second floor room; same floor as the lobby. The room was old and an odd design; the room itself was big but you could tell they stalled the room for the bathroom later. It's ceiling was a lot lower than the room's (about 15-20 ft high). The huge lion's head above the bed was cool, so was the Jefferson bust over the closet (also a later add-on). Overall, a nice room. The things that...
Great and wonderful hotel, has excellent management, excellent service.
Stayed 2 nights, staff were all very friendly, location is close to everything, love love love the cocktail hour 5-6, we got to meet other guests which was nice.
Stayed for a weekend in DC. Greta location for museums, restaurants and theater. We took advantage of all of those things and had a great time. Coming back to a nice.y apponted, comfortable room made it even better.
We had an exceptional experience from the valet to the desk reception the bartender.
The hotel is located right across the street from the Verizon Center so it is very convenient. The lobby is a really cool funky place but it does honor the historic nature of the building. The rooms are small, like any big city, but they are very nice.
Great location for the concert I was seeing across the street at the Verizon Center. Helpful staff. Lovely hotel and rooms.
Great location near everything in the city. Friendly and helpful staff. Great restaurant in the hotel. Wonderful minibar! Just an all around good experience.
The check in process was seamless, the staff courteous and the venue was nice. They also have a nice restaurant connected to the hotel where you don't have to exit the hotel in order to have dinner. This is good when the weather is not good. The rooms in the hotel are very spacious and they have thought of everything in the room. Overall a great experience and a good value for the money.

We were there during the big blizzard. The hotel staff couldn't have been nicer. We had to extend our stay. They found us transportation to the airport. Wonderful people
Great location for visiting. Within walking distance to the mall and many museums
Part of the hotel was undergoing renovation--stayed on a floor that didn't get much light. Otherwise was fine.
Shout out to the people of the Monaco DC for over the top service and kindness. Sighting I slipped on the ice and when I returned to the hotel with a badly swollen and discolored leg the staff were fantastic. As the blizzard Jonas approved they adjusted our reservation and kept the outstanding service up. I will never stay anywhere else in DC.

Solid business hotel. Nice foyer. Very good night staff. Food is good, but not great. Some issues with wifi logging on. Clean room. Comfortable. Well arranged bathroom.
Great service!!! Historic building added to the ambiance of a boutique hotel in the perfect location to explore DC.
Beautiful hotel very convenient to everything with exceptional customer service! My husband and I celebrated our 24th anniversary and really enjoyed. Thanks hotel Monaco for the complimentary champagne, fresh fruit, and card!!!
Really disappointed in the quality of the hotel and its service. Great location and the restaurant is good but nothing else is.
Shaunecey and Lacey at the front desk were excellent. Again, Shaunecey and Lacey rocked. They helped make our stay extremely comfortable. We loved the hotel and had a great time. Will definitely come back.
Hotel and service was excellent. 5 minute walk to the museums and right next to the Verizon Center. Free coffee in the morning and wine at night. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable of the hotel's long and rich history.
Booked a Premium Queen, the room was so small my wife and I had to walk sideways to get around each other. I am not sure if the bed was a queen size, that is what we sleep on every night and this one was much smaller. At checkout the front desk said next time I should book a bigger room, really??? Next Time, ????
Had a room facing the courtyard. Very nice, but the music coming from the Poste restaurant below was quite loud/boom boom until midnight. Nice hotel. Great location
Excellent hotel right across from the Verizon Center. Our room was a bit small, but comfortable, and the price was great. Could not have had a better location for a game at the Verizon Center, and a short walk to lots of restaurants, shopping and museums. Would definitely stay here again-
Stayed only one night, but the room was immaculate and the service outstanding. Nice central location.
Loved the Monaco. Staff was very helpful and informative. Places to eat and museums right out the door.
Stayed there before. Nice, light rooms. Well located for travelers.
Walking distance to museums and several great restaurants.
ロビー、部屋の雰囲気が良い。スミソニアンに近くて便利。
I do not think you should need to request a coffee maker for a $300/night room.
Great hotel in a great location.
Only 15/20 mins drive from Washington National Airport too.
If you fancy having a meal at The District ChopHouse restaurant across the street mention this to reception as they have coupons for free stuff.

Friendly staff, nice rooms, great location.
Only downside was staying on Level 4. They have an events hall on this level, and at the end of the Saturday night event everyone leaving walks past the rooms. Very noisy and disruptive, woke me up. It is not at all in keeping with the hotel and could dissuade me from staying again. I would advise avoiding any rooms on level 4.
I loved this Hotel had an amazing experience. Fabulous, comfort, great hospitality, beautiful and stylish decor.

Fantastic hotel and experience so much so weve booked to return 2016 the location food atmosphere and rooms are second to none love the fire when you walk in sets the tone for a brilliant stay at the monaco and dc see you next year
We had a great time! Hotel was in a great location. Easy walk to everything. We have recommended to all our friends if they go to DC the Monaco is a beautiful place to stay
We booked a queen bedroom and arrived at 9am they were kind enough to let us check in immediately. Expedia said that the queen bedroom can have an extra roll away bed and a crib bed but the staff said it wouldn't fit so they upgraded us to a king room and put a rollaway bed there only because both would not fit. Therefore, they offered us a double bed room for the next day and we moved and I...

They were out of coffee early in the AM and wouldn't make more. Room service was speedy, but poor food quality. Room was nice though and ours had a great mini bar.
Today the Hotel Monaco is one of DC’s most chic boutique hotels, but the building housing the hotel actually dates back to 1839 – and was once the site of DC’s General Post Office. Later, during the Civil War, the Hotel Monaco’s location housed the offices of the DC Postmaster General. Today, the property is managed by Kimpton Hotels, which means the place is loaded with added guest perks –...
We loved our stay at the Monaco. The staff was so friendly and accommodating can't say enough about the service. A lot of complimentary amenities and great decor. Would really enjoy coming back for another stay!!!
the hospitality is amazing. the room service quick and efficient. wonderful breakfast too! ♡

I have stayed here on many occasions and I LOVE it here. Great location, awesome staff, comfortable rooms. There is nothing about this place I don't like.
Stayed here in 2014 ,great place ,in the top 13 places in the world to stay. Thomas Smout is the most helpful manager I have ever dealt with. Lanos serves the best Sangria. The people at the door are awesome . Best of luck to you all, take care, Rupert
my stay was short and sweet as i flew in by evening and checked out by morning for all-day meetings. the location was right in the heart of everything (i got to see a few sights while heading to dinner), and i think if i get a chance to stay longer, it'd be perfect walking distance to a ton of museums.
i definitely want to commend their staff on excellent service. i'm a breastfeeding mother...
Good location - although those fighting brass bands on the corner are a treat for no one - the rooms are strange because the building is an old post office. It was overall quiet and relatively spacious. The Old Towne Trolley system has a stop just across the street which was great for us and the place is within easy walking distance of restaurants including Pi which is a great pizza place.
The Hotel Monaco is in a fun neighborhood – around Penn Quarter, Chinatown and the Verizon Center, the sports arena. It has scores of restaurants and draws a big date-night crowd.
In an historic 1800's building, the hotel is across from the National Portrait Gallery and the Smithsonian American Art Museum. There are sometimes art shows and street fairs nearby.

There are luxury hotels, and then there are luxury hotels that really know how to have a good time. This one is the latter, and I loved it.

This is one of the largest Kimpton hotels in DC, and the best located for getting to the museums and the mall. It's in the newly revitalized (if unfortunately Disney-fied) area by the stadium (basketball, hockey, and concerts), which also house some of DC's best theaters.
The decor is typically Kimpton-funky, which I enjoy. The rooms are surprisingly small given the overall size of the place...

It's like staying in a govt. office building from the 1920s...because it IS! The halls are wide enough to drive in and getting around inside the building can be confusing; but the rooms are a trip (lingerie and robes - male and female - in the wardrobe are for sale) and very very oddly designed. That's a good thing. As stated, the service is very nice if just a bit goofy (like the rooms), in a...

The building used to be a post office, and the ceilings are very high ceilings, so the rooms have a lot of character. The rooms are fairly small, though, and for some reason, I was unable to get the room to a comfortable temperature, so I had trouble sleeping. It can be loud in the hallways, probably due to a lot of echoing. The rooms are pricey, but the location is excellent.
In ShortThe decor at this quaint hotel is plush and whimsical, with vibrant colors and rich textiles. Guests start the day with complimentary coffee service and unwind with an afternoon wine reception. Guest rooms have a romantic feel, with soft, velvety furnishings and luxury amenities like CD stereos, terry-cloth robes, fully stocked honor bars and Aveda bath products. For business travelers, accommodations include two-line phones with data ports, in-room fax machines, shoe shine, laundry services and complimentary newspapers.
