Hooker Hotel

Would not recommend this place. It has been taken over by Hookers. I stay two nights there and police everywhere. Thugs wondering around and hookers hanging out on the property. Stay away unless you like that type of atmosphere.

Room clean, quiet, standard features, close to downtown but not too heavy traffic.

Shady location, everything broke

Average Rating

First the location is terrible. There were constantly people gawking at me, men in the windows watching me as I walked past. I had to take an uber back whenever it was night bec it was not safe. There were houses with 4 giant guard dogs and stuff like that. Also, the shower broke (and there was hair in the bathtub when we first went in), the fridge was too weak to keep anything cold, the...

Nice, reasonable hotel near Convention Center

Average Rating

We were very pleased with the newly renovated rooms, comfortable beds and well-kept grounds. The staff was very courteous and helpful. Even though this is not in the best part of San Jose, we two older ladies felt safe and secure. The continental breakfast was adequate. This hotel is 1 mile south of the Convention Center. Good alternative to Convention Center area prices.

We were at a conference about 9/10 of a mile from the hotel. Unfortunately, the wrong direction. We were two professional women and this is a "working man's hotel" with construction types sitting outside their rooms smoking and drinking beer.

Way ghetto hotel. Floor was magically soaked in the morning: Carpet soaked, bathroom soaked. Stepped in the mucky warm carpet water barefooted out of bed. Gross. Took a shower and left.

And the breakfast isn't a breakfast. These hotels would be better off discounting the rooms than giving out what amounts to cheap sweets and tampico punch in the morning.

This is a budget motel that charges hotel rates. The staff even recommended that I not walk anywhere in the neighborhood! There were actually working girls loitering in front of the premises. The room was old fashioned but seemed clean as it smelled very strongly of disinfectant. A saving grace was the friendly and helpful staff.

This is a motel, not a hotel. Economical: free parking, free wi-fi, and only $20/night additional for a pet. The lobby looks like it hasn't been remodeled since 1985 but the rooms are fairly updated. Ours was spacious, neat and had all the amenities - King bed, mini fridge, microwave, coffee maker, cable TV, ironing board, etc. No safe, though - that would've been useful. We had a one-night stay at Hotel Elan during a road trip with friends. The hotel was a little over a mile away from downtown San Jose, nothing too exciting in the immediate area around the hotel. Nothing in the hotel to make it stand out from others, but no major complaints either....

We arrived after 11 pm, and weren't allowed into the hotel lobby. The receptionist was behind a bulletproof glass window (like the bank tellers), we were outside, in the parking lot, and we had to communicate through the glass with her during check in. There were working girls on the street and cars were stopping to talk to them.

I've stayed in inexpensive motels and hotels plenty my entire life. They're not impressive but sometimes you just need a place to stay that has a clean bed and bathroom. I was shocked at how disgusting this place was. We booked our trip through Expedia for $70/night for a conference we were attending in San Jose.
I'll start with the...

Huge bed, cable, clean room.\n\nSafety and overall location were an issue.\n\n24/7 security guards are not a good sign. The place is cheap bit literally 10 mins up the road is amuch better location with shops (target) restaurants (pizza, which wich, rubios, panda express) and not as rough of a town. I just got bad overall vibes from the place and would recommend you stay else where.

I was very disappointed with my stay from September 1, through September 3, 2012. Not only was the cleanness of your hotel in question but the service rendered particular by the housekeeping staff not what I would have expected from Howard Johnson. Upon arrival I discovered that the rooms and beds were dirty, found bugs in the room and to...

Spur of the moment trip to San Jose to see my best friend. Chose this hotel because it was the closest to her house. The place looked clean enough until I lifted the covers and the sheets were covered in hair, as if someone had cut their hair in the bed. I'm not kidding. My friend, who is less squeamish...

I have stayed here 3 times. I do a trade show at the convention center and this is awesome cheap hotel that's less than 1 mile away. If you're looking for a cheap, clean, conveniently located room WITH BREAKFAST and free wi-fi, this works. It's not the ritz but if you don't need anything fancy this is great.

The Hotel Elan used to be in the Howard Johnson chain, but they parted ways about four months ago. It is about 1 mile south of the centre of San Jose, and definitely "on the wrong side of the tracks" in a downbeat part of town. It's true that it is rather basic, as American motels go, and that the...

Bottom line do not stay here! I was under the impression by booking on the Howard Johnson Express website that I would be staying in a Howard Johnson Express. Apparently that's not how things work in San Jose. The name of the hotel is now Hotel Elan even though I booked through Howard Johnson Express. I was given no indication...

The hotel name was Hotel Elan, not Howard Johnson. It should have been called Motel Elan, because that is exactly what it was. While the motel was clean, it was old and not located were I anticipated it to be. It was not in the hotel district of First St. that I was familiar with There were people hanging around the front and dogs were allowed to stay in the motel rooms. There looked like...
