I've stayed at this hotel one three separate occasions since Valentine's day. Each time I was helped by a polite and courteous clerk by the name of Nita Y. She made my stay great by suggesting great eateries for my wife and I and just smiling and being genuine. I have since recommend the dinwiddle to several friends and family....

The Governor Dinwiddie is a throwback to a what had to be a finer, nobler time. It is in short walking distance to some of the oldest, most interesting architecture from back in history.
The hotel itself is right on High Street, in the middle of a run of great bars and restaurants, but it stands out from the modern...

I had the pleasure of staying at this hotel here recently and truly enjoyed my stay. The hotel was clean, had adequate parking and very friendly hotel staff. Disapointment

I was totally disappointed. I've been in this hotel in the past, and it is worst now.
No breakfast bag, no desk on the room, the running machine in the fitness room didn't work, and other small details.

Great staff, hotel need of some love.

A friendly & helpful staff however the hotel is in need of renovations. Had to change rooms due to the AC rattling and shooting out black stuff, not to mention the towel rack, shower curtain rod and wallpaper were falling off the wall. The new room was better, at least the AC was working and the towel rack and shower curtain were hanging up. Really the worst part was lack of hot water. Had to...

I love the age of this hotel. Its very interesting to see the architecture in it. The hotel is clean and the staff is courteous. I had a lovely stay. Positive:
- They will sometimes make food for guests. When I stayed, they made chili.

It took more than four hours with me going down to the front desk thrice to get a pressing iron though the hotel claimed it was part of the amenities in each room (receptionist even suggested I go somewhere else to iron my clothes!).I had no access to hot water during most of my stay.I was told the hotel was full and nothing could be done about it. SOMETIMES PEOPLE MAKE THE DIFFERENCE

Average Rating

Sometimes the staff makes all the difference. Aquanita and the guys were more that accommodating in makes our stay pleasant. As far as the rooms; it's Portsmouth! What do you expect? Convenient to downtown and pet friendly

Average Rating

This hotel was clean and right in downtown Portsmouth, which I was looking for. I was also looking for a pet friendly hotel, which I found! That said, it was a bit noisy (probably due to its age and downtown location), dated and shabby around the edges so if you are expecting modern luxury you will not find it here. If you are looking for clean, convenient and affordable you will find that!

The location was good. Everything else was below par. I try not to hassle employees, so I didn't make a stink about these issues, but here are a few things that happened:1. Checked in at 11pm. Hotel was OK for one night. Our room smelled like smoke, even though it was supposed to be a nonsmoking room. There were no chairs in the room nor anything to set your luggage on besides the bed. We came down at 9 & everything was put away because the waffle maker blew out fuses!...

Good for a Short Stay

I stayed here for a night while attending a concert. It was within walking distance. The hotel is located in Old Towne near some decent bars. The hotel is dated. The room was clean but could use updating. There was a rip in the desk chair, some left over "substance" on the desk and a couple non-working lamps. The place was OK for the night but not for a long stay.

Definitely worth the price

I liked my hotel stay overall. The pricing was very good, the hotel staff was really nice and friendly, and my double bed room was very spacious.
