Editorial reviews from the web (1)

Like Washington, D.C.'s layout and architecture, this upscale cafeteria takes a cue from Europe. The cosmopolitan menu echoes the best of the Continent's eclectic café scene; breakfasts range from Italian potato-and-egg panini to Norwegian lox, and lunch ups the ante with a daily sausage selection and a French-inspired "tartine of the day." Asian cuisine gets its due as well, and an Indian...

Food selection is ok. The lamb and chicken platters are pretty good. Not sure what's up with their grill but it has been broken for months.

I don't know if this place invented the bulgogi quesadilla or not but whatever the case, it's ingenious. I will definitely be back to try other lunch items. Bonus: there is free water by the...

Awesome lunch meeting spot near lots of offices (and one particularly famous presidential one). Favorites here include the lentil feta salad, red pepper & bulgar soup, Thai tuna salad, souvlaki, gazpacho, and Korean bowls. For some reason, beverages are really pricey but the food is a solid value. They keep it too cold inside in the winter so ladies bring a sweater.

Nestled among a host of governmental office buildings and just west of the White House, G Street Food is a great place for a quick meal. The breakfast menu is expansive with 9 varieties of omelets and 7 types of breakfast sandwiches. The 3-egg omelets are terrific, filled to the brim with salmon, cheese, bacon, etc. A number of sides...

My office is right next to G Street (15th and K). It's great for a quick lunch it you don't have a lot of time. There is definitely someone with food from G Street every day (and we're only 20 or so people).

Just had lunch here with a friend. I got a Cubano and it was a very generous sandwich with excellent taste If you are going to go there, I would recommend going a bit early OR after the lunch rush. It gets crazy at lunch time (no surprise).

I work near this place and I really enjoy lunch here. It's in a great location for tourists and they have unique things to offer. They do not have a kids menu and most of the menu items have an international flair so would not be great for picky children.

We ate lunch here on a Monday during our vacation to DC. It was extremely crowded and our party of 6 had to sit at 2 separate tables at other ends of the very small dining area. That was disappointing, however, the food was not. Everyone in our party ordered something different and everyone was extremely pleased with their meal....

Interesting Concept, Good Food

G Street has a wide variety of dishes as it is based upon various types of street food. There are definitely more Asian themed dishes than any other. Very generous in their portions, particularly soup. A bit of a walk from the nearest Metro stop (Farragut West).

I now work just up the street from G street food, but only tried it for the first time this past week after seeing many people streaming in and out day after day.
They have a great variety of options, which is good if you're meeting someone for lunch and both people aren't 100% on the same page as far...

G Street Food is near my office and is a good place for interesting, "street food" inspired meals. The Chicken Satay is very good, so are the lettuce wraps. I also enjoy the coffee here and it is easy to pick up a cappuccino with lunch before I head back to the office. This place is a good local option...

Stick to sandwiches

I went to the one in Dupont Circle and have only tried the non-sandwich items. I tried the chickpea pancake and the kabob. Both did not impress me. They actually catered a company luncheon for us and the sandwiches are fantastic! So the four stars I give is for sandwiches only.

Don't bother with the sandwiches, the salads are better

Banh mi should not have prosciutto on it. 'Nough said.
After trying their burgers, kentucky chicken, and a bunch of other sandwiches I finally found what's great here: their salads. The lentil & feta salad is amazing, as are the thai chicken salad and the curry chicken salad. The chicken peanut salad is pretty good too. Don't waste your time...

I eat here often, since it's near my office.
A great place to grab lunch if you're near the White House, visiting the Corcoran Gallery, or are on the WWII/Vietnam Memorial side of the Mall.
The line is a little confusing and chaotic - think about whether you want a salad or a sandwich beforehand, so you can get in...

I had the delicious Cuban sandwich. It’s not exactly traditional either, but this version was a salty, spicy treat. Most of their sandwiches are served on their signature baguette which is the real MVP. Crisp on the outside, soft and chewy on the inside, the bread can make or break a sandwich and G Street Food does it right. In fact all of their ingredients are high quality, even the fries

Upscale sandwiches at downtown prices

New lunch spot has opened in downtown Washington's Farragut section on 19th St (it's not anywhere near G St, can't explain that one). At it's heart it's a casual sandwich lunchspot for office workers (closes at 4pm). Sandwiches are great, and a little more chic than competitors - chicken ricotta panino, Thai tuna salad in a kind of Mediterranean (that's...

I went here with my boss to talk shop. We wanted a comfortable place to eat and talk and wanted to try this restaurant. The overall experience and food were not very good.

We happened upon this place during our long weeking in DC while looking for a sandwich for lunch. This is not a restaurant overcrowded by tourists. If you're looking for a great place to grab a great bite to eat, stop in here. You'll pay like $10 a person for a great meal, and they have really nice outdoor seating.

The best lunch place this side of the White House. Kind polite staff.

Holy cow, that was delicious!!! I had the chicken satay and my husband has some lamb dish, but we both Agree it was the best $8 each meal we've ever had. My 14 month old devoured the peanut chicken, and he isn't much of a chicken eater!!!

First off, this isn't in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood. It's a block from the White House and about three blocks from Farragut West Metro.
That being said, glad to see another independent lunch spot in this neighborhood. A little overpriced, but fairly reasonable. The sandwiches are great-the ingredients used are fresh and everything I've had is awesome

You can truly enjoy many different international food here - From Japanese curry rice to fresh made Socca. And they're all very delicious. I don't think I've seen any place like this around the area. It's a great addition to our neighborhood. Now I have something exciting to look forward to for lunch. Will try their breakfast soon.

Why, there are decent sandwich shops in DC

If you can count on Downtown DC for anything, it is the guarantee that you will be able to locate 3 Cosis and another 3 au bon pains within a 3 block radius. Not to mention, the more seemingly local sandwich shops that catch your eye every once in a while that are often way too dirty and more often...

Great new eatery!

Quality of presentation seems to be a bit on the downside since Mark Furstenberg's abrupt departure. Smiling, efficient staff.

The food is excellent. Sometimes during the lunch rush the lines can get backed up but it is so worth it.

Good, quality ingredients, but I wish they offered more "real" streetfood selections such as satays, or pork buns. Rather difficult to find a place to sit during the rush lunch hour.

I found a place in DC where I can actually find variety of food choices. Sandwiches are great, especially the hot ones...literally they come right off the grill, so they're always very hot and fresh..and they just added halal on the menu, and it's so delicious! It's like they serve street food on a cleaner and higher quality level. Portion sizes are good...definitely better than before. It's...

I expected more from the founder of Breadline, but the food was unimpressive and the service (which only involved recognizing that someone was waiting to place an order and then filling that order) was miserable.

Definitely a busier place than the Ecco pizza it replaced last year. Similar to Breadline a block away, which isn't surprising since they were founded by the same chef/owner. The tart/pizza with salad is a good deal for $8, as is the cup of soup with bread for under $6. Serving line can be confusing.

Eclectic choice of food and beverage. Excellent food quality and service!

Mark has done it again. The socca was a little greasy but the sauce was YUM. line order flow is improved over breadline but still needs refinement

Socca was very filling but bland; still, a low-cost lunch. I liked the bahn mi (great bread) but it could have used more punch/heat/cilantro in the dressing. Too bad it's only open for lunch - if I worked nearer this location I'd go more often.

all 'bout bread

I'm a avid bread-lover. I've been baking for some time now. I go to this place 1-2 times a week for lunch. I heard that Mark ended his relationship with G Street Food. Surprisingly, their bread is better now than when Mark was around. Maybe the bakers needed some time for adjustment. Great bread + fresh ingredients = great sandwich. It seems like they know this simple yet very complex formula....

The below review sounds very hostile... Anyway, my experience here was the oppsite. At first when they opened, things seemed bit chaotic, but they've got their things together now. Wait time has gone down during the rush. I've tried many from their menu, including the new ones that were added. My favorite are the Alpine panini and falafel. Fries will complement them very well. I wonder if their...

Mark has done it again! Delicious real food. A great place for lunch.

A little more expensive than the average lunch place, and there's usually a line (which goes fairly quickly). The food is eclectic and very good--pizza, salad, sandwiches and soup.

Editorial review from The Washington Post

NOTE: Mark Furstenberg has left the restaurant. Sometimes you just want a little inspiration at lunch. That's what you get at G Street Food, where on Monday the Vietnamese banh mi might call to you, while on Thursday you might choose a bratwurst with piquant kimchi. G Street Food is the brainchild of Mark Furstenberg, who in previous culinary lives founded Marvelous Market and Breadline. Under...

G Street Food shows that Mark Furstenberg has lost none of his imagination and professionalism. Although the restaurant has the same format as the BreadLine (place your order at the counter, pay the bill, find a table or take the food with you), the entire staff is so pleasant and helpful that the service deserves a "very good" rating.Breakfast and lunch only. The Web site is on the way.
