The food was wonderful and the atmospher was just right for friends to hang out leisurely.

The restaurant was interesting with a unique outdoor rooftop dining area and a very small seating. It promised to be a find with some interesting menu items such as cheese grits, collard greens, raspberry salmon, etc. It was 'pedestrian", meaning that the food was good but not great. The wines are limited and so-so at best. The prices outran the food. I would not go back in a hurry.

This restaurant has been one I have wanted to return to for dinner, since I had lunch there with a friend on earthquake day in September, 2010. While it was pouring outside, it was magical inside. We were quite taken with the ambience of Ettamae's which reminds us of a New Orleans neighborhood cafe and restaurant.

Get there early on the weekends & try the shrimp & gritsread full review »

Ettamae's is a wonderful find in Jackson Ward in downtown Richmond, VA. Had a simple lunch including baked sweet potato, broccoli, and a great cucumber salad. My date had Ettamae's salad and spoonbread. It was all fresh and well prepared. Then to the chocolate chess pie and coffee...oh,my, delicious!!! The small dining room is painted a soft pink with white...

Ettamae's is a delighful place to eat. The ambiance is lively and friendly, the decor is shabbily chic and retro, and clean. The food was well prepared and fresh. The chocolate chess pie was divine, good coffee. Can't wait to go back for dinner some day, the menu looks terrific.

We were looking for place to have brunch with someone coming down from DC and found this cute little gem. Only had to wait about 10 minutes at noon on a Sunday. Food was fantastic - our group had the apple French toast, biscuits and gravy, and sausage/veggie/feta omelette. Coffee was good too. Will definitely come back.

Don't let the outside apparence fool you - this is a good solid place serving good old fashion comfort food. It's small and cozy. It doesn't have a full bar but the beer and wine selection was fine.

I am always surprises this place is not packed! One of Richmond's little gems! Everything is great, but make sure to leave some room for some Spoonbread!read full review »

Very small, intimate dining space, maybe 8 tables. We went for NYE dinner and wanted to have a slow dinner paired wih drinks and then champagne and dessert. Our reservation was at 7:30 and by 9:30 we were the only ones there. For the next 45 mins we felt kind of uncomfortable as all the staff rushed around to clean up and close up. We stayed until 10:15 because we were having a great time...

We were impressed by the slick webpage and the menu items looked awesome. So we booked a table for a casual New Year's Eve. Unfortunately, except for the mahi-shrimp bisque (which was more a chowder) the food was wretchedly prepared and sloppily presented. The grits were underdone, the fish was rubbery and dry and the "crab" stuffing was mostly soggy bread. I'm not sure they used any seasonings...

Ettamae's Cafe offers a great combination of delicious entrees and fabulous homemade desserts in a cozy, quiet setting. This restaurant is located in a historic part of Richmond's Jackson Ward, just north of Broad Street. Ettamae's is intimate, with the dining room (less than a dozen tables) on the second floor. Plenty of free on-street parking out front. I've eaten...

Get the triple berry stuffed french toast if it's a special. Totally worth it.read full review »
