With Elephant Thai’s footprint practically on Virginia Commonwealth University’s Monroe Park campus, you may feel like you should earn transfer credits for eating its roasted duck basil, pad thai and red, yellow and green curry dishes. What you will be rewarded with is the good balance between casual and elegant. Service is warm and friendly, and the Thai food is too good to forget, and there’s...
Very salty. My Kapow Jae was inedible. My husband's pad Thai was good, but in no way special. There's a lot of yelling in the kitchen, which makes for a disappointing meal. And the bar is very stingy with it's pours!!!
The food is decent, but liquor drinks are stingy. We've experienced this multiple times at this restaurant. On today's most recent visit the menus had live ants on them. Not the cleanest restaurant in town. Many other good Thai options in Richmond.
Good food and great people.I especially liked the papaya salad with shrimp. So delicious!
The first time I came here I loved it, I got the drunken noodles and I was so impressed. I came here two other times and ordered the noodles again and they were way too hot and had almost no flavor. The calamari is gross. Tastes fake or something. I don't think I'll be coming back. Sorry :/
Lunch buffet great!Dinner, very small portions at marked up price.Service, always great!
I used to hate Thai food until my sister convinced me to come here. She loves Thai food and I went just for her sake. However, my eyes have been opened to...
Do not come here for green curry. It is more like a broth than it is a curry. Because it's so watery, the "curry" would just seep through the rice. The...
Stopped by on a cold Saturday and got soup to go. We really enjoyed the Tom Yum Soup (with shrimp) and the Tom Kha Soup (with shrimp). Service could have been a little more welcoming but they were not rude by any means. We are not vegetarians but menu sure offers a lot of dishes to which you can add...
Quick service, good choice of dishes. Good place for a Sat nite if you're looking for a place to go without a long wait.
Anyone who loves the kick of spicy Thai food needs to stop by this location! Not very fancy on the outside but very quaint on the inside with very good Thai food! The service was excellent and the pricing was very good! I highly recommend this location for Thai food!
I went there with my wife. The place is little small and cosy in Short Pump mall near to Reagal Cinema. But food was awesome as we ordered drunken noodles veg and with chicken. The taste was good and food was smokey hot. The service was fast. I liked the taste so much that I bought couple of coupons from...
This place has long been a favorite of ours. The food is always fresh and fast, service always friendly. They don't mind customizing dishes to your taste, a plus! Dinner is also special here, it's a little more romantic in the evenings
Went to Thailand last year, and was very curious to try Elephant Thai upon our return. We tried a few different dishes, and we absolutely loved the food! My son had drunken noodles, loved the spices and even ordered it extra spiced. The cashew chicken was good, but nothing extra special. The pad thai was very authentic, just the right...
just want to say i have never had stuffed chicken wings so curiosity got the best of me....i ordered these and instantly fell in love.....the service was good to a point...our initial hostess was friendly and kind and attentive....the servers who attended our table on the other hand was not as inviting....that was our only negative but again the stuffed...
Elephant Thai never fails to please! The food is always fresh and well-seasoned. The staff is fast and friendly.
I am partial to the Pad Thai and the Drunken Noodles....the soups are fantastic too.
Took an hour to serve our food, and the restaurant was not busy. My daughter received her dinner about 20 minutes before me, as they had forgotten my order. Food was mediocre for Thai - Lemongrass soup did not have a lot of flavor, Papaya salad was doused in red pepper so that it was inedible. Curry ok, soft shell...
Great location considering it is next to movie theater in a prominent mall, however, the food portion and food quality are barely okay. They do have home delivery which is a great convenience.
My cousin in came in at the ""recommendation of high reviews."" It all started when I ordered a Mango Smoothie. Maybe I was wrong for ordering a smoothie at a Thai restaurant, but hey- it was on the menu! So the waiter says, ""I don't know how to make those, BUT let me see if there's someone here who does."" THAT, I can appreciate. He was honest, but found a solution. Smoothie is made and delivered. It doesn't look like I expected a mango smoothie to look. In fact, it looked like a milkshake. So I tasted it. It tasted like a milkshake. I assumed it would look and taste like, you know, a...
Second time ordering from them, first time too much pepper, and not black pepper, but chopped up red pepper. This second time food was cold and the portions were a joke. Neither of my containers were even half full. Looked like the driver helped himself. When I called back I was told that no one else complains. WOW, NEVER AGAIN!
I like the appetizers. The appetizers are awesome but that's about it. It's over priced, and the entrees come soggy and cold. I've been 3 times and never wanted to go back each time, unfortunately it seems the place that everyone that lives in the fan likes to go to. Personally, I think they only go to it cause they can walk to it.
I like elephant Thai, however, I think I like Tara Thai just a little bit better. The food and value were good and delivery option is convenient.
Love Love Love This Place. I've been coming here for 7 years. The basil seafood is, hands down, the most delish thing on the menu. If it's a cold or rainy day, their Tom Yum soup hits the spot, perfectly. When I come back to the area, I make a special trip to stop by and see Tanya and eat my weight in spring rolls.
First time trying Elephant Thai so I went with the old standby, Drunken Noodles. I also tried the Crying Tiger appetizer. They delivered in less than 20 mins which was great. The Crying Tiger was great. The BBQ beef had great flavor & the dipping sauce was perfect. My drunken noodles were just what I was looking for. Great flavor & good heat. I will definitely try their delivery again.
Good food, reasonable prices, and they always have take-out orders ready fast,
I love both locations of this restaurant, great food at a great price!
Me and my coworker ordered here for lunch for delivery. We both ordered the shrimp pad thai and the crisy rolls. The rolls are absolutely incredible. Our shrimp pad thai was excellent. Very flavorful. My coworkers only complaint was that she felt she didn't get enough shrimp. Mine was fine. The delivery driver was kind and so was the lady who took the order. They told us delivery would take 35-45 min but they were here in 20 min!
Pros
+ Fast delivery, delicious

Other than the fact that the restaurant's name closely resembles that of a disease called Elephantiasis, it a great place. They have some foods that many other Thai restaurants don't have and some items that aren't even Thai at all. But that's what happen when everything has to be Americanized.
Pros
+ Great food
Cons
- Not exactly what I would consider Thai food

Definitely a good atmosphere and the food is even better. I would recommend their Pad Thai, it always does the trick for me.
In response to CHMD's post, I actually know someone that works at Elephant Thai and this customer (CHMD) has continued to frequently order from them despite the supposed ""awful service"" and one-star rating

Elephant thai has very authentic thai cuisine. The staff is friendly and very knowlegable. The food is very good and I was even allowed to order off the menu for some regional thai dishes that are not usually served. I have had delivery from here and it was fine. They will prepare most dishes thai style if requested and thai spicy if requested. This is by far the best Thai food in the Richmond area and surpasses any other game in town. As for the negative comments written above...not that I would side with a restaurant but in my glory days I worked at one and remember how certain people...

This restaurant does not deserve to stay open. The food is greasy and when ordering take out, you have to BUY AT YOUR OWN RISK. I was told that my food would be delivered in 45 minutes, and it showes up after 90 minutes and was cold and the oil had coagulated on top, not to mention how steamed dumplings faired. I called and was told that the they would give me 10% off on the NEXT order, and that if I wanted a refund, they would send the driver BACK to my house to pick up the food.
THIS RESTAURANT IS AWFUL!!

From the time we were greeted warmly to the time we were sincerely thanked, Elephant Thai provided us with wonderful food and friendly, efficient service. This was our first time at Elephant Thai and my first time eating Thai food at all. Every plate of food was camera-ready, not to mention piping hot. We started with kamon jeeb (lovely little dumplings) and crying tiger, with its adventurously spicy sauce. I had the pineapple fried rice as my entree - it must be fried in cashew oil because there was one alluring flavor that tied the dish together perfectly. My girlfriend had the...

I love this place. The food is great and the service is good. I am new to Thai cuisine and so far I have had their shrimp pad thai (excellent sauce not too spicy), chicken drunken noodles (more spicy) and the shrimp stirfry (made my nose drip a lil but not too spicy where I couldn't enjoy it) and the crispy rolls (can't get enough of them). The decor is nice..but I wouldn't go as far to say I would be impressed if I went there on a first date (but wouldn't be overly disappointed either). I have had their take out and the food tastes better if you just take a few extra minutes and...

I have been to several Thai restaurants in the Richmond area and none of them could impress me the way Elephant Thai did. For a Thai food lover like me, I gave it a 5 stars for its delicious food, great hospitality of the wait staffs, and the beautiful Thai styel decoration. The food is relatively inexpensive for the big portion serve. I highly recommend anyone who never has Thai food before to try here. Their lovely waitresses would spend as much as you need to explain each dish to you. A quiet yet elegant spot for taking your first date out to try some real Thai food. They also have a...

This place is so close to VCU. There is absolutely no parking available. There is one spot reserved for takeout customers that is in the alley behind the restaurant and it is usually taken. The service toook forever. I waited for my food for a very long time. The food was very mediocre. It seemed like it was old and prepared earlier that day. There are much better thai restaurants in Richmond. I would not go here agian.
Pros
+ romantic place
Cons
- parking, wait for food, quality of food

The restaurant is cute and comfortable. The service is very friendly and helpful. I love all the food I've tried there. The food is a bit overpriced, but comparable to other thai restaurants. I've tried 3 other restaurants and it is by far the best.
