We Cannot wait for the opening. This place is looking better than it ever has and we are super excited to see the final result! The before and after transformation is almost UNbelieveable. The owners and staff care very much about this place and have totally brought it back to life! :)
A friend of mine and myself were driving through Cape Charles today and stopped because we noticed the Kiptopeke Inn was being remodeled. We spoke to a handful of very friendly people who said they would be on staff when it opens. They allowed us to walk the property and we could see right away that it is totally different...
Last year while visiting my daughter’s family on the Eastern Shore, they took me over to the Oyster Farm which has now become one of my favorite restaurants when we are up from Florida. We came up again last week to lay plans for a big family reunion (between 60 to 70 people) which we plan to have later this...
What a dump! Critters, hair, dirt, garbage, no tv unless you enjoy watching the security cam, no food, no pool, cheap soap, shampoo, mildew and dirt in bathroom, creepy place for sure. I cannot say anything good about this dump. Its like a place you would stay in a third world country. Keep Driving.
For the money, you can't beat this place. I was not about to pay $109.00 up the road. After reading some reviews, I had to write one myself. We stayed in room 106, there were no "bugs" or any sign of them. It's not the Ritz, but it's all we needed. Older place but clean. They are working at slowly...
If you want to sleep with the little critters then by all means make a reservation, but my advice to you is to keep on driving. Not able to sleep all nite due to the number of roaches and it was too late at nite to find another motel. bed was dirty and so was the bathroom. NO cable either....
During our stay, the place was under renovations. The work done already is such an improvement from last year. The pool was finally open! The restaurant is getting an overhaul as well. I'm definately excited to come back to see how things are when finished.
Great place to relax. Staff very helpful, rooms nice and cozy. Will be back soon!!!
(May 2011) Don’t even think about it. Recently I got stuck late in the day on Route #13 on Virginia’s Eastern Shore and decided to stay over at The Kiptopeke Inn. I’m more willing than most to suffer through a bad hotel room if the price is right -- but this one was EXPENSIVE. It was a weekday and there...
We had read the reviews before reserving a couple nights and were a little anxious to see what had happened to the Inn we had frequented in the past. After checking in, which the staff were so helpful and pleasing, we walked around to see our room. For starters, the work that is currently going on has made an excellent...
I was there last year and now. People, it's a new place. Will come again next month for sure!
I arrived late on a Friday night, had to call the night clerk by phone , they never answered so I rode to side of hotel they were coming around so I asked was he the clerk he said yes. He let me in I checked in got key went to room. Went to bathroom it was dirty I had...
Stayed one night with a group that went fishing. Roaches running around. TV only picked up a few channels and they were fuzzy. Price too high. Thank goodness only in the room for 10 hours to shower and sleep. Only positive thing ...staff very friendly.
this would be top of my list of "never again"....it was advertised, first of all, as having a pool...it had a pool all right....but no water in it; two of the electrical outlets were not working, the shower curtain was full of mold, spider webs all over the front window as well as the window curtain, the upholstered headboards were...
I have stayed at the Kiptopeke Inn for the past few years when on the Eastern Shore of Virginia. As it was always just for one night, a relative and I were okay with the so-so conditions. Certainly not what I was used to staying at but it would do and never had any real problems.
Our visit last week...
We were driving through the area and needed a place to sleep....that's all. This place was the grottiest place of all time. Lifted the sheets and they looked slept in, had hairs and stuff in it. We left and didn't stay.
The rooms were very nasty. Spider webs, my daughter jumped up yelling because a bug was in the bed with her. Children have allergies so time they walked in room they started sneezing. Very Fishy. Charge too much!! We had to leave a cash deposit which was $50 which was told it would be mailed to me in the mail....
I can't believe they get away with charging $100 a night for this dump!
We got a double room downstairs and it smelt damp and musty like nobody had been in it for months, the carpet was grotty, the coffee maker still had coffee grounds in from the last occupant and the TV only had 10 fuzzy channels on it....
If you like imitation Fruit Loops, Wonderbread, and weak bad coffee for "continental breakfast", then this place is for you! Only for the fisherman crowd. Would not complain if they charged what this place was worth, about half their rate.
I've stayed at the Kiptopeke Inn each December for the last 3 Decembers to fish for Rockfish at the Bay Bridge Tunnel. The Inn is located about 1/4 mile from the boat launch at the state park so you can't beat the location. I stayed at the Inn on 3 seperate occasions for 1-2 days each trip.
For my purposes...
After reading the other reviews, I was a bit nervous about my upcoming stay. Perhaps, because of the bad reviews, I arrived with lowered expectations. I can't remember the room number (maybe 101), but it was clean and partially renovated. Yes there were lots of fishermen around. This didn't bother me because I was there to fish too! Eventhough I...
Came down for the 2 Day Fishing Tournament on 11/28/08 and Kiptopeke Inn was as close to the boat launch as you can get, as well as being close to Chris' Bait/Tackle Shop, the tournament sponsor. Rooms were very clean and neat, Bathroom/Shower was fine, in room coffee was good. They even had tables out back with a running hose...

We were tired and figured we would spend the night before
driving over the bridge/tunnel to Norfolk. Big mistake. Four miles north of bridge we found a brand new motel-2 levels. No cars in parking lot . Believe name "Cape Motel". Asked for room at 5:00 PM and was told $169.00 a night--told them they were crazy and moved down...
My mother and I stayed at the Kiptopeke Inn for one night on Aug. 18. I mainly booked it because it allows dogs, so my mom could bring hers with us. We were on the Eastern Shore to pick up my son from camp early the next morning.
It's a 70s-style concrete 2-story hotel that's pretty run down; we got...
This is a 2 story motel. Needs lots of work. very close to the bay so the fishermen love it. Love it so much that they bring their days catch into the rooms at night. Had a non smoking room, but it smelled so bad of cigs. states it offeres a continetal breakfast. well don't expect more than toast and coffee , no cream just dry coffee mate. Pool is old and in need of repair and the...
This is a fisherman's hotel, period. We stopped on vacation late one night. Wanted to go over the bridge in the daylight. Room was dirty, had to ask for soap, bed sheets did not fit so they came up while we were sleeping, flies everywhere, breakfast was like nothing, price way too high for what we got.
On the positive...
Wanted to take my family fishing and the Kiptopeke was a great location and had what we needed for a successful trip. With the restaurant opening soon we can even get our meals!
Although the hotel needs some work done in the housekeeping area and the overall appearance, I must say that the staff made up for that. I was always greeted with a smile, and any questions that I asked were answered quickly and very politely. one young lady in particular was very charming, I think her name was Malissa.
What can I say other than this was the worst hotel I can remember staying in. My first clue was the teenager who would not check me in until after 3:00 PM, even though half the hotel was empty. The rooms were dirty and the entire hotel needs a paint job. Keep on driving. Sleeping in your car would be...
We decided to go see the ponies swim in Chincoteague at the last minute and stayed at this hotel the night before. The reviews I read were not promising but we just needed a place for the night and so we booked a room. We paid $100 which was definitely too much for what we got. The bathroom floor was...
was that after looking at 4 different rooms, which all were dirty and even though they claimed were all renovated were shabby. another couple was doing the same as we....trying to find something acceptable. we couldn't. the good thing was that the front desk person allowed us to a full credit. at least the help had some class.
I really enjoyed my stay at this place. It has been renovated and under new management. I visited from New Jersey for my family reunion and it was a wonderful visit. The manager actually called me to let me know of all the changes and he was so pleasant in person. The pool area was great and the rooms were very nice. I had read the old reviews of this place and had reservations about...
As known by many the Kiptopeke Inn formerly known as Days Inn used to have a not very good reputation as a place you would not like to stay. But now it has come a long way and is still going through the process of renovating. They have newly renovated rooms and a very nice continental breakfast. It is at a convenient location for traveler's as well as fisherman. I would recommend this hotel...
Recently stayed here, facilities were very clean and orderly. Continental breakfast, which I was told is to be opened this summer looks very promising. One of the better hotels in the Eastern Shore.
Although still going through renovations what was somewhat apparent upon my arrival. I found the Kiptopeke Inn to be a clean and tidy abode aside route 13. The suites were clean and well maintained, service and staff were friendly, and I’ve stayed at a few places on the eastern shore over the past few years. I have to say this...
I didn't read the other reviews of this hotel until after I had been there. I am glad I didn't read the reviews; if I had I would not have gone. They are in the middle of a renovation and only had half the hotel available. The renovated rooms although not 5 star they are a good 4 star. When...
Booked on-line and when we checked in they would NOT honor on-line price and said they did not know where "they" came up with the on-line price. They finally found a room that had been cleaned and the door handle wasn't falling off. Power went out at noon on second day and came back on at 1:00am. Staff--what staff? Nobody knew what was going on. I travel from east coast to west. I've stayed in...
This place was, quite frankly, terrible.
Here are some complaints:
*dead insects in room
*only 1 towel, 1 sheet, and 1 sheet (not roll, sheet) of TP
*TV was virtually useless (at one point we were only able to listen as the static took over the picture)
*fishy smells from the fishermen cleaning their fish
*mattress was painful on the...
The floors were not vacumed, the furniture was dirty. There were bugs everywhere..
Better off staying at the pound! Dogs get better treatment than this! The carpet was soiled, the bathroom...unmentionable and I think fleas? I will not be staying here again. For that matter at any Day's Inn motel after this experience.
This was the worst hotel ever. There was no power, no running water, and an incompetent, drug-addicted staff. When checking in, the staff was all talking about their love for smoking weed. I was attending my best friends wedding and I couldn't even shower or shave or use the restroom. Then after the wedding, power was restored, which just helped me actually see the squalor I was to stay in....
Awful. Gross. I am not kidding - there were dead bugs in the room. Dead bugs. Being the optomist, I thought this was a good sign (e.g. they just fumigated) ... until I saw the live bugs. Multiple stains on the carpet, including one still wet. Broken plate glass window adjacent to the front door. Furniture and countertops all damaged...
