Help us make it rightCracker Barrel Old Country Store offers a friendly home-away-from-home in its stores and restaurants. Guests are cared for like family, enjoy home-style food and unique shopping - all at a fair price.
We went around 330 on a Friday evening. Restaurant was pretty empty but service was terrible, waitress was chatting with friends and ignored us. Food was not good - veggie plate - carrots were soggy, fried okra wasn't fried long enough. Second bad trip to this site and no improvements.
In Short
Originating in Lebanon Texas, this country store and restaurant has branched out all over the U.S. The décor includes old advertising signs, farm equipment, early kitchen...
This is the worse Cracker Barrel I have ever been to. Our food was horrible along with our service. The hash browns were like rocks! The waitress was supposed to bring me more and it never...
Great service from Khalilah! Bill was just under $30 for our 2meals, 2sweet teas, and a to go of Mac n cheese-amazing! I asked her what she recommends, she suggested the meat loaf(what I...
Called in an order on 8-28-15. Not complicated. Just three orders of pancakes. When I got there the order was completely wrong. I was overcharged and had to repeat the order several times until...
Memories of road trips and being sent away to Grandma's for the summer fill this store like the faux nostalgia junk being sold in the gift shop. What can you say? When you can't figure out where...
I really enjoy their breakfast, the food was good and the atmosphere was very homey. I had one of their main breakfast entrees. Everything was great except, they ran low on biscuits. By the time...
We stopped here thinking we knew what to expect....boy, this was the worst meal i ever had at a Cracker Barrel. The waitress seemed more occupied with the little speaker thing in her ear than when we were ordering. The store wasnt crowded at all when we were there. (which suprised me) Might have been 20 people (if that) in...
the down home feel and the great southern tasting food make eating here a must. Of course we can never leave without buying some candy on the way out.
I was in town with my spouse and we saw this place while driving through town. We decided to stop in to get some dinner before checking into the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised. The quality of the food, the staff, and the property blew us away. If we are ever in Newport News again, this will be the...
Lots of tasty choices and reasonable prices, along with friendly staff and a nice gift shop. This is always a great choice.
Quick service and a great menu, its the place for lunch, never too busy and helpful and willing staff
Had a great breakfast, food and service always good. And the store's an added bonus! Always enjoy browsing after a meal
Nice selection of clothes, bric-a-brac and nostalgic candies, sodas and deserts. The Buckeyes are almost as good as those made by our friends in Ohio. There are interesting toys for the children. So, if you're looking for a unique gift or just to treat yourself, this may fit the bill for you.
We went later in the evening, the ladies at the table behind us were crabby and complaining a lot, we had the same waitress, she was very patient and tried to accommodate them, When she couldn't she got a manager. The manager was very nice and offered them replacement food. A few other people came over to check on them...
Good comfort food. Fills you up! Love to go in and try the new additions to the menu. The store makes your waite fun.
The breakfasts consisted of extremely large servings of pancakes, eggs and French toast. Service was lacking at times depending on how busy they were. The cashier is too quick to throw out charge receipts. Some of us need them for business travel.
My plate was dirty and they also ran out of the some item on the menu. They also had inexperienced wait staff high school student that could care less about coustmer sevice.
I love the turnip greens. I do not cook southern food so this is a place to go and get my southern fill. I love the sweet tea and the country store shopping while I am waiting or just looking for a gift. Take a stroll back down memory lane as you view the various candies that are available for...
Love Cracker Barrel anytime! My fiancé always gets the fried catfish. He loves it! I always get breakfast anytime of the day. It's great. Muffins are good. Love the store too to wander through and buy candy :)
It is a great home cooked meal. It is not very expensive and the portions are hugh. I like this occasionally.
The standard Cracker Barrel lineup, but the store is well-managed and has a lot of dedicated servers who've been with the store for significant periods of time. As a result, the restaurant handles volume well--and the food is always consistent!
Sundays Chicken is AWESOME!!!read full review »
I had an early Thanksgiving with my mother, grandmother, boyfriend, sister and her two young sons. We were seated quickly, and a young man began to take our drink orders. My mom and grandmother are both diabetic, and he was well informed of this when he arrived to serve us. We were all offered the Thanksgiving meal, and a seperate...
Predictable but not great food. Hard of find something for vegetarians because many of the vegetables have meat in them. I always think of its fireplace in cold weather and ask to be seated near there. Great for comfort food. Lines are usually long but the store is interesting enough to make it bearable. If you're diabetic there is NSA...
Not a fan of buffet dining. Lots of food but too many choices. Good deal if you are very, very hungry. Food is average.
I had dinner here just recently. The wait was 1hr 30 min. The food was dry from being left out so long under there heat lamp. Our server did not get my children's order right. Giving them the wrong sides. The stuffing flavor was over powered with rosemary herb.
I fell in love with a quilt payed 150.00 for it...
DELICIOUS food and always excellent service! I love the little "country store" in the front entrance as well!!
This is a great place to go when you are on a budget. They have a great selection of meals, all reasonably priced. In November they had a special. My favorite is the pork roast. It is a seasonal dish they should have all year long.
Food was delish!read full review »
I was looking for something light for dinner and found it at the Cracker Barrel. The service was good and the food as well
my mother drags me to this place about once every two months--and it's the same every time
ordinary overcooked food and greasy
no creativity--nothing out of the ordinary-food llike granny used to make in her last days
sorry to be so critical--but I just don't like the atmospphere or the food
My dining partner wanted steak and eggs which isn't on the menu. At other Cracker Barrel's he'd been told what amounted to 'no,' but at this one the waitress said 'sure.' Nothing was too much trouble for her and we were very pleased to let the manager and Cracker Barrel know how good she was.
What a fun place to visit...it always has great food and I love the choice of breakfast all day long. While my husband plays the "jump the peg" game at the table waiting for food, I can go to the shop where I always find something to buy! In cooler times of the year, we love to get a table...
I allways Like going to the Caracker Barrel especialy the Store never know what goodies you might find
This is a great place to stop for a good meal. The food is fresh and lots of selections. Good for any diet. Breakfasts can be heavy or light. I liked the fact that they serve turkey sausage and egg beaters and wheat toast. Grits are good. Lunches and dinners are great. Roast beef and potatoes are great. Potatoes are...
They really want you to check out the junk store at Cracker Barrel, so they are in no hurry to clear tables and seat you - even if you can see plenty of available tables. This is a conflict-of-interest I find disturbing. It is like holding back my entre to try and get me to order another drink: rude. When...
We ate lunch at the Cracker Barrel on Hornsby Ln. on September 17, 2012. There were four of us – my wife and I, and her mother and father. We’ve eaten at several CBs around the country and know what to expect when we go. This restaurant needs to re-tool their kitchen and wait staff interface. We sat for over...
My mom and dad were in town and we took them out to breakfast. Never can beat Cracker Barrel for the best breakfast!! The staff are always nice and helpful!!!
I've been to several Cracker Barrel restaurants and i've usually had a good meal. While vacationing we checked out the Newport News Cracker Barrel. We were shown to our seats quickly and had beverages in hand within minutes. After ordering, our meals were brought to the table amazingly fast; about 15 minutes. The fish with fried okra and meat loaf was awesome...
I generally do not care for chain restaurants. I went with a friend. The food was alright, the service was fine. I have never been back.
What can I say about the Cracker Barrel that you don't already know? They're all over, making them very convenient, and their food is pretty consistent no matter where you go. My two favorite breakfasts are the "Old Timers" and they make some of the best blueberry pancakes I've ever had. Their sausage and biscuits are pretty decent as well....
Early Saturday is a popular time for dining out and the stress showed at Cracker Barrel. The food (pancakes, eggs and bacon) were good. The time to deliver the food was long. The Waiter took awhile to ge the coffee (new pot), but we didn't see him again until we asked him for the check. No coffee warm ups or...
Service was so slow, i left.read full review »
Blueberry pancakes. Yum
Service was fine, food was reliably good. What's not to like?
The service was amazing and the food was very tasty, living up to the cracker barrel reputation, the prices are very reasonable, although the food portions are a bit on the small side
We ate brunch here, and found the food to be OK, but not great. My omelette was a bit on the dry side, and the rest of the meal was also so-so. However, we did have an outstanding waitress who looked after us very well, and was also extemely personable. I would go back there again.
The wait to get a table was not long, but it did take longer than it should have to get service. I ordered breakfast and the portions were very generous and the food was tasty. Some of the students with me ordered dinner and they were very pleased with the quality of the food.
The coca cola chocolate cake is to die for! This is a must try if you've never eaten at a Cracker Barrel. The 3 times I've eaten there (three different restaurants in two different cities) I ordered cake to go so I can bring home with me to San Diego.
I really like the fish fry Fridays, either catfish or...
When I don't know what I want, this is usually a good choice. They have a good selection of veggies for side dishes, and sometimes breakfast is what hits the spot, no matter what time of day. Prices are reasonable, and its fun to browse in their store. Good place to find DVDs of old TV shows from the 50's,...
Love those pecan pancakes. Can't beat them! The real maple syrup is what takes it over the moon.
The store has a wide variety of items for different ages, some items from my childhood or even from my parents childhood - and I can introduce my children to these items.
mid-October 2011:...had one of their big seasonal salads. Perfect! My love had something good too, and of course we like shopping slowly before and after : ) Service was good as always!
I have to admit I love the homey feel of CB. feel like Im at my mema's house. not every food item is specktackular, but the service makes up for it :)
Great food, great service even though it was packed, and nice sized portions. Would visit again if in the area.
Cracker Barrel has never been a favorite of mine, but my wife likes it - home-cooked food, she says. I ordered a Hamburger Steak, mashed potatoes, green beans, biscuits.
This was the worst Hamburger Steak I've ever had. Menu said 1/2 pound. It looked like a fast-food patty - very thin! Everything else was nothing special. Biscuits were under-done -...
We were a table of eight for breakfast, which I guess is pretty large, but not THAT large. They gave us two waitresses, which we knew would be a bad idea. Each waitress didn't know what the other waitress was bringing. Also, my sister asked for half and half with her coffee, and the waitress said they only had cream,...
Very good. Nice fell. I would
Come here again. Very old fashioned. I like it !!!
Good atmosphere, good food, breakfast anytime of day, friendly wait staff, store area contains something for everyone. And it's the standard...the food at one is generally the same at any Cracker Barrel.
Ah yes, Cracker Barrels stretch all over the country. There are many out in the middle of the country and in the east, but none exist on the west coast. Perhaps this is telling of the culture of…
I love breakfast, so I always enjoy going to Cracker Barrel. I had never been to the Newport News location before, but it was pretty much just like every other one I've been to; rocking chairs…
DH had never been to a Cracker Barrel so we decided to give it a try. Chicken Fried Chicken all around. Plenty of food, including some creamy mac-n-cheese, at a great price. The staff is so smiley, but they poured water in our Sprites. Oh well :)
Enjoy Busch Gardens and the beach! Go VA!
This is definitely a "Meh. I've experienced better" place. I've eaten at Cracker Barrels before; it's pretty reliable food at a decent price. But this is the first time I've eaten at a Cracker Barrel…
Good old fashioned southern cooking. I have missed this kind of food. Not something you can get in Colorado. Biscuits and gravy were great and the ham was awesome.
In Short
Originating in Lebanon Texas, this country store and restaurant has branched out all over the U.S. The décor includes old advertising signs, farm equipment, early kitchen appliances and photos which complement the country-style seating. Their menu includes home-style comfort foods like meatloaf and house-made mashed potatoes daily for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Make sure to stop into the gift shop for souvenirs and a variety of knick-knacks.
This is one of my favorite places to eat. The servers are friendly and generally keep drink orders full. If an order gets messed up, the servers will take care of it. Of all our travels, we have found the Newport News Cracker Barrel to be the best - friendly and helpful servers as well as having good food. The people in the store section are willing to go out of their way to find merchandise....
