This is a beachfront motel, not a hotel, and it is better than average as a motel. My ground floor oceanfront room was perfectly clean, had no musty smells, no sand, none of the challenges that oceanfront accommodations confront. The ocean view was wonderful. The staff was the most personable and responsive staff that I have ever encountered. The rooms were very clean and there was sufficient parking. Absolutely beautiful location, especially with the ocean front room. Very comfy beds were a plus. Gazebo on the beach is a nice place to take in the sunrise and the path to the beach helps with access. Bathroom is small for tall people, but not an issue if you're by yourself. Lots of options for food around the area and very easy to find off the main highway.

This is a basic motel--not bad, but nothing special about it. The best quality about it is the location, right on the beach. We had a two-bed room without a view of the water. The breakfast was okay. If I return to this area, I will not stay here again.

Our room was definitely clean and ready upon our arrival. The room was basically small, accommodating, and enough for a couple. Shower and toilet facilities were in close quarters as well. There was only one lounge chair in the room and one desk chair necessitating the other person sit on one of the beds. The deck was small and appropriate for viewing the ocean.

We had a great time, except for the weather. The accommodations were what I expected. We could have softer towels. The breakfast was very good but not a lot of seating spaces.

Front desk and breakfast staff very friendly and welcoming. Breakfast was delicious! Appreciated cold ice water with lemon at front desk. Pool was heated and clean. Room 114 smelled a bit musty and bathroom could be updated. Beds very comfortable. All hotels should supply liquid soap instead of bar soap. Concrete walks need repainting. Overall, great stay and would stay here again if come back.
We have been staying at this motel for several years and have always been satisfied with it. This year the only disappointment was that the hot tub jets were not working since we use them to sooth our back problems. I AM concerned with the room rate that has increased a lot. May need to look elseware. But the rooms are fine and staff friendly.

Stayed in a 3rd floor room with 2 queen beds. Room was very clean and nice. Good size refrigerator and microwave in the room. Awesome private balcony overlooking the ocean. You must stay on the 3rd or 4th floor to have ocean views.

Das Hotel liegt sehr schön direkt am Strand. Das Zimmer war leider sehr abgewohnt und sichtlich in die Jahre gekommen und nicht gemütlich. Aber es war sehr sauber. Das Personal war freundlich. Der Eingangsbereich ist freundlich und einladend gestaltet. Der Frühstücksbereich und das Frühstück selbst waren leider enttäuschend.
We really enjoyed staying at Shutters on the Banks. We had an oceanfront room and loved sitting on the balcony listening and watching the beach. The room was very clean and the size was quite large. The continental breakfast was very good and we loved sitting on the veranda each morning. The staff was very congenial and helpful. Overall, we had a wonderful experience and will definitely return.

Wir konnten vor Ort von einer Junior-Suite mit Wohnbereich/recht kleinem Schlafsofa für unsere Kinder (14,12) in ein normales DZ mit 2 Queensize-Betten und einer Kitchenette umziehen. Geruch war zuerst etwas modrig.

Prima Hotel, direkt hinter den Dünen. Genau richtig für ein paar Tage Entspannung und Meer. Das Hotel ist zwar etwas in die Jahre gekommen, jedoch sauber und gepflegt.

Frühstück war ausreichend, leider etwas eintönig. Schön wäre es, wenn es kostenlos Strandequipment zum Ausleihen gäbe.

This hotel was great! The staff was awesome and really friendly. The rooms were very clean and tidy. We had a dune view room which was kind of cool to see the sun come up on the horizon and over the dunes. It was really easy to get to the beach! Great prices too!!

Great place for the price. Right on the beach, clean rooms, courteous staff, great free breakfast, indoor and outdoor pool, and close to a number of places to visit. Make sure you visit the Wright Brother's museum and the Dunes at Jockey Ridge at sunset. In general OBX has a great vibe. I can't wait for the next visit!

Love coming here! Second time we've spent our week at Shutters, always staying in bottom floor and spending our evenings with our vacation family! They've been coming here every year for 40 years! Best breakfast ever, great pools, and all the luxury. Employees are wonderful and friendly! Can't wait till next year!!
We love shutters!! The staff is absolutely the best! Always friendly and goes out of their way to help you! Rooms are nice clean and affordable. Free breakfast is always tasty. This is the only hotel we stay at in the outer banks!!

Another wonderful stay. The staff were incredibly friendly & even remembered us from our 2013 stay. The breakfast area was closing as we were leaving, the staff kept it open for us & even made waffles for me. Thank you Shutters for a great anniversary weekend. See you next year for our 25th.
