Didn't know this was reviewable! It's awesome to run, walk, take dogs and kids, pleasure or education... it's a diverse experience, well maintained and beautiful scenery. Highly recommended!
It is a lovely place but there is a dangerous situation in that one of the bridges is very unsafe with many missing slates. The park had tried to stretch police tape over the entrance but it was torn down. An adult would notice this but a child might not, and could be seriously injured.
Please repair or barricade this...
The Chesapeake Arboretum is a pleasant stroll through the woods. You might even learn something! The Arboretum has several trails, but they are not always well marked, so pay attention. However, it's not like you could get lost as the arboretum is surrounded by housing developments. Once you enter, for the most part you'd never know that you are surrounded...
Near to the heart of Chesapeake, can get away from the suburbia scene, but you can still hear traffic at places. Paths are mulched and terrain is level mostly. Will return occasionally.
Am I missing something here? I came here in early June and arrived to 2 locked barns and little to no flowers in bloom. It took me awhile but then I figured out the trails were ACROSS the street....
I thought I was familiar with just about every park in Hampton Roads as I have made it my duty to seek and find them all. So I was pleasantly surprised the other day when a fellow Yelper...
A hidden gem in Chesapeake! Trails: Clean, well groomed with plenty of wood chips making it a comfortable walk or run. There are also numerous benches and plant descriptions making it a great...
From my research, I almost didn't go to the Chesapeake Arboretum, but I am really happy that I did. The arboretum is located in the middle of a bunch of residential neighborhoods. It is long and narrow, and a dirty creek ran through it length-wise. The trails are neatly laid out and maps are located throughout the arboretum that pin...
Simply Beautiful. I enjoy the walking trail and taking photos here. This is a great place for time by yourself or to take the family. You can go exploring or watch the wildlife. Peaceful and an escape from everyday life. Centrally located in Chesapeake so you don't have to go far either!
Probably a good place to go with smaller children, not a lot of walking area to cover the whole place. Pretty much all under trees so out of the sun. In the middle of various houses, once you reach the edge you see yards so just turn around. Saw some wildlife around. Glad I visited just to see what was...
Soft, padded wood chip trails. Well maintained and very few people use. Excellent location for Value Place guests.
The trail is attached to an old property. You must have good shoes, and the right weather gear. It is buggy ( it's the woods) , there is poison ivy (it's the woods!!) Take water and enjoy a walk among some old trees- check yourself for ticks afterward. If you are a naturalist, you will love it. If you are...
Site is very easy to get to with accessible parking. Very nice walk winding through trees so on a hot and humid day it is a relief. Walk is as easy or difficult as you want to make it. Good for families. Bring bug spray if going later in the day.
Run. Bike. Walk. The trails aren't too long and it's a great reason to leave the house. Check for ticks after you leave in the summer time and maybe use mosquito spray if you plan in being out for a while. NO bathrooms, either!! (But there's a McDonalds and a grocery store less than 2 min away.)
I go here multiple times a week. The staff grooms the approximately 3 miles of trails on a regular basis. I forget I am in the middle of the city when I run. Can't say enough good things about the park.
Great place to get the kids outside and running. There is miles of trails and all are kid friendly. Just make sure you pay attention to the signs and do not get lost!
Try to visit in the early spring or late fall- mosquitoes are so big they could carry off small children:)
My kids and I went here with a friend and her children last summer. We had a blast. The kids love running along the paths and exploring. They thoroughly enjoyed learning all about the various butterflies in the butterfly exhibit (and the volunteers there were more than happy to entertain lots of questions and teach the kids all kinds of...
Gentleman from our church is a lead at the Arboretum and he found out we were going and met us there and gave us a personal tour; next time, going to take one of my dogs to enjoy the experience. Wonderful foilage and a nice place to visit
It is nice to have this hidden em in Chesapeake. Would highly recommend for a relaxing afternoon with the family.
We love to visit. There are several trails that make for a nice time. The trails are soft and scenic. It is fun to take some time and explore every now and then.
If I had reviewed this after any other of my normal trips, I'd give it 5 stars, however after the trip this weekend...I enjoy the beautiful walk in the woods with my family on a pretty frequent basis, however this past weekend I saw several 30-somethings heading onto the trails dressed in nightclub attire (at 2pm on a Sunday afternoon)....
The Chesapeake Arboretum is a bit of forrest nestled in the Greenbrier area of Chesapeake. It isn't very big and the trail isn't very long, but it is perfect for families with small children that are looking to introduce their children to hiking. It's even a great place to go for a romantic walk with your loved one.
If you...
The arboretum is my go-to place for an afternoon walk with gorgeous scenery!
My family really enjoys this little arboretum. We lived in the area for years before we knew it was tucked off the highway in a residential area. I highly recommend the trail for young adventurers. It's an easy enough walk and when the trail is dry, a stroller can be pushed through.
Having lived and worked in the Chesapeake area on two occasions I was privileged to live close to an enjoy the benefits of the Arboretum. The beautifully restored farm house, the pristine walking trails, and the numerous & diverse educational offerings are but a few of the many benefits of this unique and rich property.
I have attended the annual...
The Chesapeake Arboretum is an urban wooded area with about 2.5 miles of easy to walk trails. Many trees are identified with plaques. This is a great spot to take a stroll and learn about trees. I was on a tour with a Master Naturalist and the time I spent in the arboretum was very interesting. The area is supported...
It's has a few nice trails and bridges that border what I think is a drainage ditch. It's a nice place to take a walk. No flowers to speak of. Looking for something much nicer, head to Oak Grove Park just down the street.
The Chesapeake Arboretum is a beautiful place to go walking, alone or with family and friends. Bring your camera for nature pictures and photo opportunities. Make sure you have some good walking shoes on, too! It is situated in a quiet neighborhood and has ample parking across the street from one of the trail entrances. One part of the trail...
I was trying to find things to do this summer with my son and this was one of my favorites. I love being outside and in nature, so the Arboretum was right up my alley. I loved the theme gardens, and so did my son. We loved smelling all t...
