I ordered the shrimp tacos and they were amazing. I ate one for lunch the next day and it was even better. Unfortunately, my husband's empanadas were bland and tasteless. He said the only think with flavor in the chorizo empanadas was the raisins (?!)
Went for Valentines Day. Staff and service was great. Food delicious. Preordered flowers, app and dessert which was ready and on the table when we sat down. Went two years ago for the same and had a great time then too. Might make it a tradition!
I originally stopped in for a drink with my girlfriend a few months ago and neither of us could wait until we got a chance for the full dining experience. Admittedly our expectations were pretty high going into the evening, but Casa del Barco did not disappoint and absolutely exceeded our already high expectations. The staff was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere and decor was amazing and...
Went here for Valentine's Day and expected to spend a good amount of money. The food tasted great and was not the typical Mexican restaurant style food. It was on the pricey side but I understood for the atmosphere and location. Unfortunately, we decided to try a tequila flight and were suggested the most expensive one, without us being aware ($20). When it arrived there were 3 shot glasses not...
Never been disappointed in this venue. I would however suggest adding some more umbrellas outside; it was a bit toasty in the sun --- even if it was February - was an unusually warm day
Love it. The menu was amazing and the food was perfect. Can't wait to go back
This place was horrible. Drinks took 30 minutes to get. Queso was bland. The entrees were bland too. The chicken empanadas had 1 piece of chicken in it. It was easily the worst Mexican food I've ever had and one of the worst dining experiences I've ever had.
This was our second visit Casa del Barco. Ben was most accommodating on our first visit, since we're on the Whole30 program and had the kitchen cut up some veggies for our guacamole in lieu of chips. Where have you seen two people order unsweetened tea at a bar? We did. Our second visit was just as good. Our waiter, David, was excellent. We will definitely be regular customers.
The crab and grapefruit guacamole was superb. I also loved the pork queso... hands-down the best queso I've ever had. The blood orange margarita was the perfect addition to this fresh Mex meal.
good food great staff open way to loud to much going on
Good place for groups of 6 to 10 people to dine and drink.
Margaritas were excellent! Atmosphere was fun and vibrant. My tamales were ok at best- they were almost a deconstructed tamale and the corn was very dense and pork was cold and underseasoned. My friends' tacos were amazing! Our waitress was attentive, knowledgeable and friendly. I can't wait to go back when the weather is nice to sit on the patio.
We love this restaurant! the service was excellent. the duck tacos were fantastic. we also got the beef barbacoa enchilada and the dynamite tacos. all were wonderful. the blood orange margarita is my favorite.
High quality Mexican food in cool ambience. Will be back for sure!
Great location, vibrant and lively staff. If you don't mind the noise it's a nice place to dine. Excellent selection of beers and liquor.
Our party of 6 had an early dinner the Monday after Christmas. We took advantage of the Monday Margarita special of $5 and were we glad we hadn't paid the $7.50 regular price. The glass was small and the flavor of the standard Margarita was not appealing -- very sour as though no Triple Sec or Grand Marnier had been added. The large guacamole appetizer for $10.50 was a disappointment. Not a lot...
I went here with my sister for her birthday. She had previously been here but it was my first time. I really enjoyed how the restaurant was decorated as well as the options on the menu. The fish tacos were amazing and I even went ahead and purchased one of their pint drinking glasses because they have a cute skull and logo. I really enjoyed it here and our server Stacy was great; I'll...
We went to Casa Del Barco for our anniversary after walking on the canal walk and the new Potterfield Bridge. Staff was professional and pleasant. The drink selection was great. The food was really good although the blue crab enchiladas weren't terrific. I had the roasted vegetable with goat cheese enchilada which was fantastic.
The location and restaurant itself were nice, but I would not go back. The food was OK but drinks were overpriced and service was extremely slow. Waiter and maître d' both walked past our table several times when our plates were empty and didn't stop to ask if we needed anything else or if everything was OK. Definitely not worth the extra trip to make downtown.
Food was good. Drinks were strong. We made a reservation for 7:45 and were not seated until 8pm. Service was subpar.. saw our waiter helping other tables much more than ours. Noise level was very loud. Overall experience was ok. Would go back for a date night or group of friends not with a baby.
Loved the food and the atmosphere but my jalapeño margarita was horrible. There was no spice and no alcohol.
The bottles hanging from the ceiling, they catch your eye.
It was a Friday and quite loud. The food was good, the service a little slow. The drinks were great.
The service and ambiance was good. The food however was blah at best. Guac was good but the tamale was hard as a rock and even the server said they were not good. I'm not sure why she didn't mention this when I ordered and I'm not sure why she didn't take the meal off my bill seeing as though the plate was hardly touched. Overall our group was unimpressed.
Great food, drinks and service. Unfortunately, could not utilize the validated parking in the garage due an issue with the entry point. No employee was found in the booth. Otherwise, the evening was great!
small portions, usually you get 6 tortillas with 3 tacos and these were smaller than usual
Came here for a friends birthday dinner and had a great time. The food was good, I got the avocado Caesar with chicken, and the drinks were great as well. We had a nice time and our server was great.
Appetizers were amazing, fresh ingredients!
Great service and food!
The food was good and the staff was friendly. The view was great. Though we were outside, I did not feel like our waiter forgot about us. I will definitely be going back! One down side. It was hard to find parking. We were told after we arrived thY theu valet parking. Now we know for next time.
Food was amazing and the tequila selection was unreal. Will return
I had been here once before a few years ago, so I was interested in returning. The food was very good, and did not disappoint. .. not your typical Tex Mex. The guac with mango was very tasty. I had fajitas which were sizzling and filling. A nice south of the boarder option for downtown Richmond.
A group of friends and I went to Casa Del Barco last year for the Super Bowl, it was great..they had three large projectors and a taco bar! So when my team was playing yesterday, I knew just where to take our group. The food at Casa Del Barco is amazing every time, chicken tacos may sound like an average dish..but they put their own flair on the ingredients. Also a great place for work lunches....
The food was decent but not worth the price. Margarita was way to small for the cost.
Overall, disappointing. Beautiful view at night sitting outside overlooking canal. Unfortunately, service and food were just adequate. Cocktails were just ok as well. Do not anticipate returning.
This is our second time having dinner here and the service was outstanding. Our Server was Joseph and he was excellent. Very cordial and professional. We definitely will come back again.
Fun place! Basil cucumber Marguerita was outstanding.
Nice restaurant and good eats. Can't go wrong here.
Yummy. Pricey. Definitely go back.
We love Casa del Barco for the beautiful and stylish location and fantastic, fresh food. With a vegan and vegetarian in our group, there still was plenty for everyone to enjoy! This is the perfect place for a special night out.
Great management and service , absolutely a must place to visit !
I was very disappointed in this place. It is not authentic mexican food, they put black beans instead of normal refried and use a bunch of corn. It is quite pricey for the portions you get. They don't even give complementary chips and salsa. I didn't try the margaritas but they did have a large choice for those. The service was not very good either. Would never go back or recommend to others.
This place has so much potential but always falls short, the staff is great but none of them stick around long and the drinks / food is expensive. The drink selection is expansive, the food looks beautiful, sounds good, and smells good, but always falls short on flavor, each dish being and bland as the one before it. The menu seems to change a lot too.
The food is amazing and the blue crush drink was fantastic! Can't wait to go back again.
Great atmosphere, awesome food made with fresh ingredients. If u haven't been, u should be on your way Now. What a refreshing dining experience.
An absolute favorite! Not only is the food creative and delicious - the staff is fantastic too. Great decor - can't wait to brunch on the patio when the weather warms up.
Stopped here today to get a drink on the patio while walking the canal. Got seated and waited 15 min without seeing a server before leaving. Well done.
best margs in richmond (and the happy hour deals make them even better)
Probably my favorite restaurant in RVA. Great food, fun atmosphere and looking forward to eating on the new patio when it warms up!
EXCELLENT food. Most likely the best chicken fajita I've ever had. Prices are reasonable, drinks were FANTASTIC!
Hands down best tacos I've ever had! Wish they served beef nachos though. Awesome atmosphere and different from any other Mexican restaurant. A cut Above the rest!
Went first time on Friday for my birthday! Loved it!
We decided to host our rehearsal dinner here on 11/7/2014 and it was great. Rebecca helped to coordinate the whole thing and did an awesome job. They were very accommodating to special requests. The wait staff was excellent and everyone raved about the food. It all ended with a round of tequila shots and a bottle signing, so you know it was a good time!
Wonderful place to hangout with friends.
I really like the food and the location of this restaurant. It's a descent value for the quantity and quality for the food served. Another reason I enjoy is because they are dog-friendly on the patio. When we are out walking Brown & Belle Island with the dog we make sure to stop by del barco.
Casa del barco is a great place to check out if you haven't yet. We came during happy hour, which is 3-7. All the tacos, empanadas, margaritas and beers are half off. I personally fell in love with the place the second we stepped in. The atmosphere was new and refreshing, which made me happy to sit around at …
My new favorite craft taco place? Haha, for price and quality of food, this place wins over en su boca which is still equally good minus the pretentious hipster employees. Girlfriend and I got tacos and honestly what impressed me the most was the plates they serve them on. Never have I had a meal with …
Really the one thing going for them is the atmosphere. A great looking bar area and decent food. Nothing really stands out about the food but it didn't suck. The service was other than desirable which is a common Richmond issue.
So awesome!! We've been here multiple times! Food is always amazing, service is always outstanding, and we never leave disappointed. Just wish there was one closer to my house in Charlottesville!! Last night we all got mouth watering tacos, strong and OUTSTANDING margaritas and cold beer, and really loved the band last night! You made my birthday! Cheers to an awesome place!
Food was very good. Service excellent. Trendy ambiance and cool location. Prices were outrageously high. $100 for 3 plates (only 2 small tacos), 3 drinks,...
Atmosphere is a 10 and food a 4. Really surprised how much flavor their food lacked. To make it worse it's very expensive. We split guacamole five ways,...
Always good food and a fun time!
Excellent drinks. Delish food. Fun bottle decoratin'!!!!
Great visit last week! Food was awesome!
This place was great! They had 2 things that make everything a little more fun, Cabo and "Chuck"! Will be back soon!
We had a blast! The drinks were great and the staff was super fun! So glad we found this place and can't wait to go back
Great staff/food/margaritas
Great atmosphere, fantastic staff, delicious food, and fair prices. Kevin, our bartender, provided outstanding service along with Corey, Anne, and Becky. Thanks again for making Antoinette's birthday celebration a great experience. We will be back.

Fresh Special occasion without trying. Canal side patio with comfortable staff that you feel peerish and engaged. Every special effort is made to stand out in the downtown uniage gathers, to whom are seeking, interesting encounters with daring food couture, paired with transcending drink and smiles. Travel big feeling in hometown yard. Recommend guac starter and multiple visits in same...

Great experience. We were downtown for the College Cycling Championships and stopped by between races. Late afternoon found the dining room fairly empty but the patio fairly full. We had the bar to ourselves and had exceptional service. Jessica and Stephanie were very knowledgeable about their 100+ tequila list and made some great drinks for us. I hadn't had a michilada since living in TX and...

Great empanadas and Margaritas!
Food is so amazing!! Actually has a great taste unlike all the other Mexican places!!

I loved everything about my dinner at Casa Del Barco. The location right along the canal downtown permits great outdoor seating, and the building itself is really cool (a converted factory building I think).
First off, as always, were the drinks. They proudly claim to having the most tequila than every other restaurant in the state, and I believe it....
A beautiful outdoor eating area with a view of something other than parked cars and delicious food like you would find in a restaurant in Mexico or the Southwest US! Huge selection of tequilas, and beers. One rum drink, but the Kracken mojito was fabulous! And a nice selection of wines, too. Four different kinds of guacamole (we had a...
My husband took me to Casa del Barco yesterday for Mother's Day. We'd been dying to try it, since we are huge fans of The Boathouse. But our experience was so bad, I know we'll never go back...
Let me start by saying that the restaurant is trendy and industrial inside--very cool. We were promptly greeted by a friendly hostess...
I like Mexican food but somehow places that serve Mexican food generally mean just mediocre as far as being a restaurant. Casa del Barco in downtown Richmond is not your typical Mexican restaurant. First the atmosphere is great. Located on the canal walk near Brown's Island with a great outdoor dining, you feel like you're in a vacation spot. Go...
If there was an "average but over priced" I would select. We went for lunch this Saturday and atmosphere was cool for drinks but food just So So. I had empanadas and my wife chicken tacos. Both were very bland in taste but good presentation. Positive side, chips and salsa were solid along with guacamole.
We had an 8:30 reservation, and were not seated until after 9. The service was painfully slow and the food was only mediocre. The server made fun of someone in our party who ordered water and actually told him he could "fetch the water from the canal." There was only one bottle of hot sauce in the entire restaurant and...
Great Place!. Dear Casa del Barco:
I must admit I've been waiting & wishing for more authentic, regional & fancy Mexican food in Richmond, where many folks are still hooked on hard tacos & stuff covered in liquid yellow cheese. Casa del Barco did not disappoint me. They specialize in seafood and since Mexico has plenty of coastal cuisine this is a welcomed change of pace....
The owners of Casa del Barco have obviously invested a lot of money into the space. The restaurant is absolutely beautiful and has a super cool vibe for brunch as well as for happy hour/late night because the lighting transitions so well from day to evening.

Had an awesome Valentine's Day experience. For the longest time I have been saying that Richmond needs more "homemade" restaurants. Everything here is made from scratch. For example, the Mole sauce consists of 24 ingredients and made fresh daily. The atmoshphere and decor is incredible and the staff (and this is an understatement) was tremendous. Even better, it is affordable!!...
IT was my birthday and I wanted to find something different.I knew the Boathouse had opened a new restaurant on the canal and I LOVE anything Mexican IF it's not typical. I checked the menu and when I saw Guava Lamb and Mole Rabbit, knew I found my birthday spot. WE loved the crab guacamole with chips for appitizer and...
